short fairways, not so short cut greens
This course was a great challenge for a par 68. There isn't a throw away hole on the course. everything has elevation changes (typically sf), and a lot of blind shots so you have to lay up. if you go for the greens on say a 268yd par 4, you can get punished. Great value. but I can't understand why the greens were so slow, the probably rolled at a 7 and more people should complain about it because I would play there all the time if the greens were just cut lower.
Great Course for a High Handicap Player
Par 3's are a beast. Greens are super slow..Million dollar views...Great price
Great views.
Love this course as a native San Franciscan. It is a fun course with a lot of variation. From the blues there are a couple of long par threes.
The greens are tough... and not in a good way. Shaggy on the Sunday we played.
Awesome view!
Tee time at 8:15; any earlier and the fog would have been too thick...by the time we got to the 17th, fog had burned off enough to see the Golden Gate Bridge. Wow! Great course just for that but also good for a quick round as it is short compared to most. Staff was friendly and helpful to us tourists looking for a place to eat afterwards. Greens fees okay but cart rental pricey at 26 dollars PER PERSON. I'm walking next time...
San Francsico Classic
An old fashion muni course that is a real gem. A very hilly course and not recommended for walking. You have views of the Pacific, Golden Gate Bridge, old Victorians, and San Francisco. This course proves the point that a course does not need to be long to be difficult. A premium is put on your short game; chipping and putting. Being a muni course it is not manicured but very playable. I would recommend it to anyone who really loves the game and is not looking for a resort course.
a fun an challenging course
I havent played here in about 10 yrs but use to play this course every weekend..its a challenge to bend shots around this layout instead of just bombs away on most courses..fun an affordable it tests you mid to short iron game save for a couple holes..
What a disappointment
Invited a friend from East Bay to play with me for the first time at the course. We were disappointed. The grass on the greens were like a "forest". The pace of the greens were all over the place and very inconsistent. The Marshal only rode around in cart and did not direct the playing pace. Basically, he was useless and the pace of play was like cross the Bay Bridge in commute hours.
For such as beautiful location and amazing views, it ashamed that there is little effort in maintaining the course at a high and inviting level. What a waste! The road through the gold course to the museum is awful. It's a shame that we are not taking advantage of such great location and making the course part of the tourist attraction. The entry to the course and its parking lot is so darn ugly is very unappealing. The Club house facility is in need of renovation. The bathroom facilities are awful and it appears the pipe insulation is asbestos containing.
I would vote a thousand times to put the course into the hands of a private entity and pay higher fees to play at this spectacular location. We need to take this facility out of the hands of the Park & Rec and City workers. They have no pride in their work and their value to actually make the course become revenue generator and self sufficient. Popular Creek in San Mateo is super compared to Lincoln Park. The worst resort course is of a higher standard than Lincoln Park.
Lincoln
Beautiful course. Scenery is amazing. Old school course. Played the morning after rain, but the course played pretty decent. Some mud and puddles here and there, but I expected that. Course is on the shorter side but the holes are fun and challenging. It's a hilly course with some blind shots And some tough greens. Hole #17 lives up to it's reputation. Great way to spend a Saturday morning.
We had a rain delay
But we still wanted 2 hit the course
After a hour + waiting out the rain we got 9 in and had a great time on the back
What is the policy w/ Golf Now w/ rain.
I didn't want 2 lose my foursome $ I had paid for on my credit card
You'll just get frustrated!
CONS:
-no real clubhouse
-no driving range
-no markers/signs for holes
-you'll get lost
-no flag placement colors
-flag placement annoying
-greens are impossible
-even fairways are hard to hit from
-slow play
Worst golf experience in a long time.
This was an all around horrible golf experience. I golf twice a week religiously and chose Lincoln because I've been wanting to try for years.
Staff= unfriendly to non-residents.
Food= maybe a 3 out of 10.
Course=horrible conditions
Greens=worst I've played, ever. Serious :-(
Price=too much for what you get.
Misc.......my photo is was held for deposit on cart keys. After returning to the clubhouse for my ID, I was acussed of driving cart all over course (cart path only day). The group in front of my foursome had been doing "doughnuts", "peel outs"on the fairways. Of course I was upset by the unprofessional treatment of the course. But I feel it's the job of a "marshal" to monitor. I do not say anything. I feel I was profiled and accused of this behavior. When I asked why my photo ID was photo copied in color at 100% (against the federal law to photo copy in color), he said it was for there records so they would not rent a cart to me in te future. I asked for the copy of my ID and was rejected. I am very upset at the staff if this horrible course. How do I know my photo copy ID will not make it onto a fake ID? I don't know. But completely am totally against federal law to do this. Never never will I recommend this place.
Welcome back to Lincoln Park!
Haven't played this course in over 20 years! In better shape than I remembered it but greens are still very slow. A true shame that they don't maintain and/or redo this course. Could be a great one due to location and the 17th hole.
Beautiful views
This course is absolutely dripping with potential. The way it is now this course is not one to play because it's an amazon. Course you play it because the views are are absolutely spectacular. The course is a bit rough with the greens being mostly short crab grass and tee boxes many time absolutely chewed up. The fairways aren't always try best and landing in hard dirt can happen. But you should play this place just for the views they are spectacular
Incredible views and value
Lincoln Park has some of the most spectacular views you'll ever encounter on a golf course. On eight (8) holes you can see the golden gate bridge/ or the ocean. The course is relatively short, but the hilly terrain and small greens provide plenty of bite. The final three holes are very challenging and equally breath-taking for their views.
Some people may take issue with the condition of the fairways b/c they can be damp in spots. However, I feel the course plays very fair and conditions are just part of the challenge of Lincoln.
Overall, Lincoln Park is a great value and good course for beginners to intermediate players. This is the ideal course to have a good time, enjoy the views, and perhaps make a few birdies.
A piece of history
Ok, so this is not Pebble Beach we're talking about here, but I loved this course.
A real piece of golf history, originally designed in 1928, the course is short, but offers some challenges. To play it well you really need to be in the right spot off the tee. It's a course anyone can have fun playing, but you'll need to be able to shape shots and hit a good long iron to score well.
Add to that the incredible views all round the course, but particularly around #4 and #17 and I really think you have to be pretty hard hearted not to like this place.
They could pump some money into the fairways and club house, but for the money you just can't experience an old school course that's any better in my opinion.
