Slooooow and windy
It was very windy today. Greens are very difficult. The ball just bounces or rolls all the way through. Had a very difficult time keeping the ball on the green. One friend quit after 9 holes due to pace. Too many people searching for their ball like it was grandma's heirloom. No Ranger to keep pace moving. They really need to do something about the greens. Some of the tee boxes were so hard you could barely get a tee peg in the ground. The course desperately needs to mature.
Great track
Great track, lighting greens, Greens are what makes this course challenging, once matured, it will be an Awsome course, use 1 less club right now, let the ball roll up to the green,
Tough greens
Nice layout, but may be difficult for the medium to high handicap golfer. The greens are “rock hard” and undulating.
I think I will wait a year to see if the greens soften up. The cart girl was extremely nice and helpful.
Diamond in the Rough
Very playable if you choose the correct tees.
Fairways play wider than they look.
Greens have quite a bit of undulation, but pins were in reasonable locations.
The ground is very firm. Lots of roll out on shots. Greens are QUICK....be sure to use putting green prior to round or you will be shocked when you reach the first green.
The course will soften over time.
A must play before they go private..
FIrst time at Sterling Grove
It will eventually be a great track in the west valley. The greens are extremely challenging and very difficult. The wind blowing certainly did not help. It was a fun round but very challenging . No clubhouse for beverages after the round so you could not sit down and and relax after finishing.
Needs to Mature
First time playing Sterling Grove. Started on practice area which was very good. Was scheduled to play with another 2 some but did not show up so we had to play 2 behind 3 4 somes. Very windy day both 9's are a loop so half of holes down half into. Front 9 greens were very firm since they were planted after back 9. Not sure what Nicklaus Design was thinking with the green complexes but they are pretty severe with undulation be prepared to 3 put ALOT! bunkers were really nice full of sand. I will wait to go back after greens on front 9 to soften up. They were in process of punching rough and tees to get burmuda to get going.

Real tough greens, you will not get many one putts
Sterling Grove Golf Course
Today we played this course for the first time. What a pleasant experience. The staff were professional but friendly. Starter was a great guy ! For a new course< we thought it was fantastic condition. We will definitely be back. Great Course !!!!!
High hopes due to ‘Country club’ name
Overall disappointed in the course that is a country club. The conditions did not reach country club level.
The greens were fast which I love but rock hard. A high level course should be able to keep the greens fast without making them so hard you can’t hit a shot 120 yds out without the ball literally bouncing 3 feet in the air and rolling off the green -perfect shot with appropriate APEX. Needed to use 1-2 clubs less on approach shots due to balls unable to stay on greens thru a bump and run type of shot. Greens had large rough spots on some, fairways extremely large dry and burnt spots and then large water soaked spots. the tee boxes-hard as a rock-I played from the white/ red combined. Watch GPS didn’t work because the course just registered the course with GPS system-the starter stated I would need to do manual update on my watch-little late when your on the first tee.
GPS nice and to the pin, excellent amenity.
The women locker rooms are out of this world classy. Once the restaurant is installed and the construction which is everywhere is finished this would be a course I might want to try again.
Would never live here, Luke Air Force plane noise is extreme -the Mountain View’s are fantastic-too bad the views are ruined by noise pollution from the inefficient, expensive F-35 nightmare.
Excellent corse. Pin placements were unfair and I am. 4 handicap. If they want people to come back they need to rethink where they place the pins.
Beautiful course and Beautiful facilities
Employees were awesome, cart girl was cute and friendly. All staff was professional. Their sandwiches in the pro shop were really good too. Beverages on Cart were reasonable and ice cold. They gave us 4 bottles of water and ice and towels. Will definitely be back and thinking of becoming members.
Not worth the hype!
Greens are similar to miniature golf super fast and undulated. Staff was uppity borderline rude. I really looked forward to playing but after the round was over I was even happier it was done. I have never left a review for a course until today but if I could save one person the drive and recommended going somewhere else then I’ve done you a favor.
Must Play
To all the negative reviews about how this course is unfair, grow up and challenge yourself! Great golf course, must play!
Great course - TOUGH around the greens
Great new course, Tough around the greens especially the front nine. We’ll definitely play there again
Nicklaus is a sadist!
Course is young and needs a couple of years to mature. But even then, greens are extremely tough. Many holes are ultra penal if you barely miss the fairway,. I’m an 8 handicap and struggled around the greens. If you miss on the wrong side you are dead.
Good Track
Overall, a very playable course. Generous of of the tee. Some long par fours, memorable par threes and strategic par fives. The greens were very poorly designed on 5 of the holes. Ridiculous ridges and troughs that made it a bit of a carnival. Not a fair test of golf.
Practice facility had lots of targets and was well maintained.
Listen to me
This course is absolutely beautiful. Too bad it will be a private course in 2-3 years...Anyway, here’s my notes.
1. Odds are the average golfer (15+ handicap) will not play well here. If you do, bring golf balls and plenty of them. There is a gigantic amount of fairway to hit on these holes. But it’s also somehow very easy to put the ball out of play - on every shot.
2. The greens are no joke. Not only are they fast, but they’re undulating and that’s an understatement. There are hardly any even spots on any of the greens.
3. Knowing the greens are fast makes one think to lay up a little and let the ball climb the green. Good luck with that. The greens are not only heavily protected by luscious sand traps (with LOTS of real sand) but they’re also protected by elevated ridges at the front of the greens. Which means your approach shot has much higher odds of bouncing up and backwards or possibly shooting left or right rather than hitting firmly and creeping up the green.
4. Thus, flop shots are a savior from the golf gods!! If you can properly aim and control flop shots from a range of distances, then you will breeze through this course. The bump n run theory will likely do you no good here unless you’re a magician with your bump club.
5. Overall, the place is beautiful. The clubhouse is beautiful. Everything is new. The workers are awesome. The practice facility is nice. Just go play it and feel for yourself. Just be prepared for the challenge ahead of you. Drink plenty...Of beer.
Great track
Can’t wait to play again next year. The fact that the course has been open for a year, it shows as greens are hard but they roll true and smooth. The layout is straightforward but with enough challenges to keep it fun and interesting. The greens are quite insulated so take your time and walk around the hole and pay attention to the slopes.
