San Juan Hills Golf Club
About
Tucked away in the hills of San Juan Capistrano, San Juan Golf Course is situated midway between Los Angeles and San Diego. Its location is conveniently close to Legoland, Disneyland, the San Diego Zoo, and miles of sandy beaches. The championship golf course underwent a major renovation of its fairways and greens, making them some of the best in south Orange County. The layout consists of a diverse array of holes that range in length from short to long and some are hilly while others are flatter. Being a public golf course and having a versatile layout, San Juan G.C. is a popular place for tournaments and events. At either end of the course there are practice facilities as well. On the west side you'll find a putting green and sand bunker as well as a chipping area, and on the other end you'll find a grass driving range.

Good course for the fee
Great value for the green fee, we'll come back.
Fun course to see for the first time.
slow play
Picked a day when it was unbelievably crowded. There was a foursome on every hole with some of the holes backed up with 2 groups of foursomes. We left after 2 hours and made it only to the 6th hole. Management was understanding and gave us a rain check. The course is in great shape but unfortunately we picked a day when 1/2 of So. calif Golfers wanted to play also.
Poor pace of play
5 and a half hours to play this course on a Tuesday afternoon. I won't be playing here again
a pleasant surprise
The front seems a little more ordinary, the back nine is scenic and more challanging. A very good value, worth the drive from North San Diego.
Just Beautiful
Although greens were not so great because of afternoon play, overall course conditions were great and fun. I saw a coyote several times during playing. I would like to play more here.
ArchDuffer,
Thanks so much for the kind words - glad you had an enjoyable round and we look forward to seeing you again soon!
Best regards,
Dustin
Decent Course- Poor Staff Member Experience
The course was average, but had really fast greens. In some cases, it was nearly impossible to stop the ball. I am a member of a country club and like fast greens, but a few times it got outrageous. It also took 5 hours to play on a Friday morning, which is a bit slow for a public course on a Friday morning. Overall, not a bad course for the cost on a Friday (peak hour) in Orange County. There were other courses with much higher rates that were likely similar in many ways.
However, the Director of Sales and Revenue is living in another world. My partner and I accidentally made two tee times (I don't live here and my partner made a tee time not knowing I already had one) and I called as a courtesy to cancel the first, given the mistake. Do you know this manager refused to cancel, stating a 24 hour cancellation policy. So if you by accident happen to book 4 tee times, you are out of luck. I thought it was completely outrageous that they still charged me for that and I do intend to take this up the chain of command. I am going to write a complaint to the Better Business Bureau regarding this issue, as it is ridiculous that I have to spend time and energy to dispute a simple mistake.
Too slow!!!
Slowest pace of play I've had in years. Took 3 hours to play 8 holes!! Either get a Marshall on the course or spread out your tee times more! Up to 4 groups on par 3's at a time. One of my worst golf experiences in a long time.
Eersfan01,
Thank you for playing with us and I apologize for the long round on the 24th.
Can you please drop me an email at dustin@sanjuanhillsgolf.com at your convenience?
Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.

Slow Play, late starts
I've played this course for years and it was always improving until lately. Apparently there is new management intent upon maximizing the number of rounds played.
My last two rounds were late to start, and incredicbly slow -like over 5 hours for 18 holes. On Saturday we had a 12:58 and a good chance of completing a round. The front nine took three hours! We mananged to complete only 13 holes when hoping reasonably, for 18. We teed off late due to some "mens club blah blah blah". What do I care? I paid for a full 18 and didn't get it. I know it was a Saturday but the Marshalls can't seem to keep up the pace of play Last Thursday the same thing - a 5.5 hour round. I know they've been trying to improve the conditions and have worked hard at that, but have converted the course into a slow, "won't finish 18",, "can't do anything about it", bottom-tier course. Bad strategy. If you want to play a partial round on a half-way decent course and wait for five minutes on every hole, this is your course.
Great course!!!
Got great green fees for GN. Course is in great shape. Some of the best greens I've ever putted on . True and very slick. Some course knowledge is a plus.
I will definitely Be back.
Play
San Juan Hills offers the golfer the chance to hit every club in their bag. Many holes give you an extended roll from the hard fairways. The pace of play could improve. Greens are very large and are above average.
Great time... Great Course!!!
Every time I get to the Orange County I play San Juan Hills. The course layout is so much fun, some great risk reward shots. I play a lot of courses and the greens there are the perfect. After the round our group always enjoys the Sports Bar, excellent food and great setting. I wish i lived closer, it would be my home course...
Great practice facilities
Perfect weather in San Juan. Pace of play went
Smoothly.
Fast greens
We were the first group off on Monday at 7:25.
It was a cold morning, Greens were very FAST, we were done at 11am, could of saved a 1/2 hour if we knew how to adjust to the fast greens. If you haven't played here you need to give it a shot, try to get off early as it can get busy. Staff was Great
Everything was great except the pace of play
It was a beautiful day and I was paired up with a couple of good guys. We were told everything was on time. We were done in 5 long hours. For a threesome following another threesome that is way too long. The course was in fairly good shape for the lack of rain over the past year. Good company and some good golf make for a good day in the sun.
great time
I had a great time and the greens are very fast. Never be above the pin when putting because if you don't make the putt it will roll 5 to 10 feet past the hole.
San Juan Hills
Other than the extremely slow pace of play (12 holes in 4 hours before dark) there is nothing wrong with this little course.
Good value
The greens are great at the time we played fairways were not perfect but good the staff was the best! Very friendly a player with us lost a wedge the marshals did not stop looking for it until they found it the whole place is improving every time I play there!!!
All good, except...
...except for the fact that they put a stranger in my golf cart. I'm all about pairing up with strangers and in fact prefer it. But putting someone i don't know, with different temperament, in my cart makes for an uncomfortable experience. Golf is tough enough as it is.. Right???
Unfortunately as a single you are subject to their rules, but I absolutely agree with you. "Temperament", should only be one option, golf. It's hard enough to play without that type of distraction.
Disappointing
Friendliest staff in the word but the course was in horrible shape. Not use to playing 5 hour rounds of golf due to very slow tee times. Maybe should consider making tee times a little further apart. A good challenge but very disappointed in the condition. Greens were fine and very fast at times. Will not play it again or recommend it for the price I paid.
Good foods and nice atmosphere
Course condition was not good due to recent rain and pace of play was slow, again cart path only.
Vandoman,
Thank you for playing with us and for your feedback.
Could you please email dustin@sanjuanhillsgolf.com with your tee time 2/3?
We take pace of play very seriously. Looking at my GPS reports yesterday, the slowest pace of any group that played was 4 hours, 55 minutes with an average pace of 4 hours 18 minutes for the day.
Thank you in advance for any information you can provide and we hope to see you again soon.
Best regards,
Dustin
