San Juan Hills Golf Club
About
Tucked away in the hills of San Juan Capistrano, San Juan Golf Course is situated midway between Los Angeles and San Diego. Its location is conveniently close to Legoland, Disneyland, the San Diego Zoo, and miles of sandy beaches. The championship golf course underwent a major renovation of its fairways and greens, making them some of the best in south Orange County. The layout consists of a diverse array of holes that range in length from short to long and some are hilly while others are flatter. Being a public golf course and having a versatile layout, San Juan G.C. is a popular place for tournaments and events. At either end of the course there are practice facilities as well. On the west side you'll find a putting green and sand bunker as well as a chipping area, and on the other end you'll find a grass driving range.

punched greens
punched greens wait 2 weeks....
Awsome course otherwise....
Facility also.....19th hole...
should be even better now!
the greens had just been punched but they rolled quite well. only the front nine was open so we got to enjoy it twice. the course is definitely worth the money.
Course not totally open
When we arrived, we were told that we had to play the back nine twice, as the front nine was being worked on. This was a surprise. We were told that the greens on the back were in great shape, but we found them to be full of ball marks which were unfixed by those before us that day. Have played here a few times and enjoyed it. Will again but will wait for them to finish the work being done.
Early Morning Speedy Round
We play here several times per year. The greens are always in excellent condition, smooth and fast. They are tricky, though, with lots of subtle breaks. We teed off at 6:56 and were probably about the third group off. We were never rushed but almost never had to wait either and we finished in 3 hours and 20 minutes. My 3 stars for course condition are based upon a lot of really patchy spots on the fairways, some marked ground under repair (with no repairs obvious) but many not. And there is very little sand in many of the greenside bunkers.
Was a nice round of 18.
Elevation changes make it challenging. Green very nice and fast. Fairways in great condition.
Great Round
Very friendly staff. Nice practice facillity.
Nice and spacious pratice putting greens.
Played during a high traffic weekend, but things moved along nicely. Course was in great shape, pin placements can make it very challenging.
You can't go wrong with this hidden gem.
good but crowdy
Even if most holes have good condition, a couple of holes don't have good fairway such as exposed bare ground without grass. There were some waits for play due to crowd.
Surprise in Capistrano
Enjoyed the course and the conditions. Good shape and challenging greens. Friendly staff. will return for the value in a very attractive climate.
Great day. Great value
Great staff. Pace was slow but it was Sat. Afternoon . Always a great place to play
The Waiting Game
We had at least 1 group consistently waiting in front of us at each tee. It took just under 3 hours to complete the front 9. The Marshall had come to us on the 7th tee and said we were lucky because there were 3-4 groups waiting on each tee behind us. Guess we can see where priorities are with management here. The course was in decent enough shape, and for $45, is a fair deal, but if this is how they pack them in on the weekends, it's just not much fun to play.
Fun course
I am challenged every time I play. Fun course, does not beat you up.
Humbled!
I am an 8 handicapper. When I play a course for the first time I always give it respect and play the white tees. Seeing that the yardage from the whites was under 6000 yards, I decided to play the 6300 yards of the blue tees. The elevated greens easily added 200 yards to that total. However, the most difficulty was playing not only the fast greens but how they turned and sloped. In many cases, the pin placements were diabolical and when your ball is about to die at a hole, but the green takes it for a ride off the green or when you putt up the slope and the ball comes up short, then rolls back past where you putted from, well that eliminates fairness from the equation. Having said that, I cant wait to go back and try harder and do better. Challenging is putting it mildly, this is a course that commands your respect. The scenery from the elevated tee boxes is also worth you paying a visit to this course. The only downside was the pace of play which I am certain is caused by the difficulty many will find in putting these greens. Three putts are the norm, four or more putts NOT unusual.
Great weather, fast greens
I had a great experience at San Juan Hills. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the pro shop, restaurant and overall facility. Greens were super fast, weather was perfect about 80 with a breeze in September. I will definitely be back to play. Under $50 for 18 holes with a cart.
first time player here
Excellent day for 18 holes at a new So Cal course. I enjoyed this course very much.
horrible management
I was playin yesterday, too many hacker . we have to wait 10 min after every single shot end up 4 1/2 hours for 12 holes.wouldn't come back here for a while.i wouldn't recommend to play here in the weekend .I pay green fee for 18 holes.but only finish 12 holes.
awesome greens
the greens were awesome and rolling very good, well kept
Pace of Play
I came on a Tuesday afternoon, at 12:30 which at a golf course during the week right in the middle of the day, I would expect there to be a small crowd. Not really the case here but ok, I can live with that. What I can't live with is a golf course at any time of the week accepting the fact that a 5 hour round of golf is normal. I played 18 in 5 hrs and 20 minutes, which is ridiculous. The course was decent, I shot 78 with a few birdies but my flow was disrupted more than a few times and it killed my round. Value was good, paid 25 and staff were all super cool, so were the guys I played with. Just, pace of play San Juan Hills!
fun course
Elevation changes, doglegs, large and small greens.
Fairways have wet soft lies and rough deep. Greens hard reads at time
Tee time for two unavailable
Well I went on Golfnow to make a tee time for two people. The website indicated that there was a spot for two people at San Juan Hills at 12:24. When I tried to make the reservation, it said tee time is no longer available. Okay so I went back to Golfnow to find another time. I noticed that the same tee time was listed twice as two singles. So I tried to book the two single spots for me and my partner. One worked but the other was unavailable. Called the course no help so now I am out the $39 bucks because it was a hot deal and there are no refunds. Let's keep it simple and accurate or I won't use Golfnow in the future.
This track is FUN
I have a regular group that plays all over OC. I am so happy that we decided to play SJH for our Saturday game. We started at 10:00 and were able to get around in just about 4 hrs. The course is in excellent condition and the lay out is as good as you will find in OC. The bar/restaurant is excellent. The food was dynamite and the waitresses are really NICE..
THIS PLACE IS A MUST!!!
