San Juan Hills Golf Club
About
Tucked away in the hills of San Juan Capistrano, San Juan Golf Course is situated midway between Los Angeles and San Diego. Its location is conveniently close to Legoland, Disneyland, the San Diego Zoo, and miles of sandy beaches. The championship golf course underwent a major renovation of its fairways and greens, making them some of the best in south Orange County. The layout consists of a diverse array of holes that range in length from short to long and some are hilly while others are flatter. Being a public golf course and having a versatile layout, San Juan G.C. is a popular place for tournaments and events. At either end of the course there are practice facilities as well. On the west side you'll find a putting green and sand bunker as well as a chipping area, and on the other end you'll find a grass driving range.

Great Day
Course is getting better and better. Fairways and greens mostly in great shape. Did not mind some roped off areas to nurture and develop the couple of fairways left on the list.
Greens roll well but have some difficult pin placements.
Good, bad and ugly
They apparently spend more money on their sports bar and banquet facility than they do on the course. While the tee box's and greens are in good condition, everything in between is poor to fair at best. Fairways have more patches than a Tijuana taxi's tire, no two bunkers seem to be the same sand (or dirt). Disappointing to see course decline over the years, especially considering how much was spent remodeling the club house and bar. Perhaps that money could have been better spent upgrading the actual thing that the place exists for.
Great course!
The course is in amazing shape. Great course for the price!
Very good golf course
I looked at reviews before booking my tee time and was a little concerned about the course conditions. I was pleasantly surprised it is in good shape. As mentioned by others, the greens are in great shape and the fairways were good with a few poor spots, but just bump you ball to a fair spot in the fairway if needed. I will come back when I am in this area, the course layout was nice with a lot of elevation changes. The clubhouse, restaurant, and sports bar facilities were great.
Sunday Golf
Last minute decision to play and glad I did! Made a birdie on 2 in the wind and was putting for eagle on 8....Any golf day is a great day:)
San Juan Hills. Put into a group of 5!
My buddy and I got thrown into a party of 3 so we played with 5 total! We had a tee time at 1:20. With 5 of us it went so slow that we only finished 12 holes. I Golf 2-3 times a week and have never been put into a group of 5!
Interesting course. Much to like.
Some challenges but open enough to swing away. Fun course.
Great Greens
While this course has always had good greens, I think the greens keeper has broughtbthem to a new level. They now roll true and fast. The fairways are in desperate need of help. Brown spots, dirt patches and crab grass continually effect the lie of the ball. They also have numerous places around the course where they have patchwork sod in place.
They have dropped the price to around $30 for greens fees which makes the course the best deal in Orange County imo. We teed off at 7:52 and played in 3.5 hours.
Good for the money....
San Juan Hills is very close to my house and my step daughter plays here regularly as part of the high school golf team. It's is a pretty good bargain especially in the afternoons. I will say that the pace of play can be slow despite the well meaning marshalls (who, by the way, work all day. ... Not just the mornings) out on the course trying to keep things moving. The fairways are not in good shape and there is a lot of dirt pretty much everywhere. That being said, once you're on the green, you'll find them top notch. Very fast and very difficult in my opinion.
The 19th Hole is a great place to get a cocktail and dinner after and has music on the weekends. Really nice place.
So...... You probably get more than your moneys worth here but just realize that it's not Pebble Beach.
Great Value in South OC
This was one of the best golf experience I have had in a while. On the 17th hole my buddy and I both looked at each other bummed out that it was coming to an end. Granted we teed off at 6am, the pace of play was great and the conditions were better than any other public course in Orange County. I can't wait to get back this weekend!
Super great value
My buddy and I purchased a Golf Now deal for $15 each. Great deal. Met a really fun companion, and the conditions of the course were really good. I had some trouble on the greens, but other than that, it's a really great time. You have to try the Margaritas on the Snack truck!
More Course Management Needed
It was a busy day and there was a two cart party in front of us. The issue was that the course allowed a family of three in one cart including a 5-year old....with his own clubs. This 5-year old played every hole even after we complained and a course official told this family that they had to stop the 5-year old from playing. They ignored the course official, (that was playing behind us) and we stood around every tee waiting until all five putted out...including the 5-year old. This should not have been allowed. Ruined the day.
Nice Course, Great Clubhouse energy!
This is a great place to play a good round of golf, and then hang out in this great clubhouse for hours. The food and atmosphere was great!
Too slow of a pace....
It was soooooo slow we couldn't get rhythm going...had to quit after 12th hole because at that point it was 4 hours....t'd off at 1230 and after the 12th hole it was 430 and dark....I understand it's a public course and weekend but 4 hours to play 12 holes???? No thanks!
Decent greens
Booked This for a 12.40 tee time advertised as 18 hole time
Only managed to complete 15 holes before it went dark at 5.15
Unfortunately another case of a course getting Greedy trying to fit in too many tee times
Will not play here again - golf is 18 holes not 15
Coming back nicely
The greens are coming back nicely after they were punched last week, they could use a good rolling, the course continues to make improvements on the fairways and on the tee boxes.
Awesome value
Excellent value, course is in good condition considering the greens were recently punched. Food is great and all the staff is very friendly. This was my third time playing in the recent two months and each time has been very enjoyable.
Best Value and friendly course
Love this course. Greens punched last week they are already in good to excellent shape. Great food and lots or screens to watch every sporting event. Food service needs a little help but let them know whats needed and thank them for their service..........
Facilities are new beautiful and squeaky clean.......If you haven't met Ray in the pro shop...hes been there for decades.....one of most nicest gentlemen you'll ever meet. so introduce yourself and make a new friend..... most of all have a great time at San Juan Hills Golf Course......
overall challenging but fair.
The course was in really great shape, definitely a challenge because of swirling ocean breezes, but greens were nice, friendly staff, and lots going on around.
Great Round
It was my first time playing the course and boy was I astounded. The entire course was immaculate. The greens played fast and were very difficult at times. The fairways are mainly wide open except a few holes. Staff was very friendly and added to my overall impression of the facility. I will definitely be coming back again and again. On a minor sore note after the first 6 holes the pace of play slowed down dramatically and we didn't see a marshal. The gps just kept reading messages telling us to speed up our pace of play, but we were keeping up with the group ahead of us.
