San Juan Hills Golf Club
About
Tucked away in the hills of San Juan Capistrano, San Juan Golf Course is situated midway between Los Angeles and San Diego. Its location is conveniently close to Legoland, Disneyland, the San Diego Zoo, and miles of sandy beaches. The championship golf course underwent a major renovation of its fairways and greens, making them some of the best in south Orange County. The layout consists of a diverse array of holes that range in length from short to long and some are hilly while others are flatter. Being a public golf course and having a versatile layout, San Juan G.C. is a popular place for tournaments and events. At either end of the course there are practice facilities as well. On the west side you'll find a putting green and sand bunker as well as a chipping area, and on the other end you'll find a grass driving range.

Good course; great price.
This is a very nice course in an expensive area with an exceptional price. The course was in good shape and played well.
The course is only half the fun at San Juan Hills
I live in Orange County. If my work schedule allows I try to play 18 holes once a week at local courses. Last weekend I played at San Juan Hills and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. The lay-out is unique built along the hills of San Juan. Plenty of elevation change allows for some spectacular views from tee to green. Holes 5 and 6 are definitely picture holes. The golf course has some spots where you can get away with errant shots or over power it with a solid Drive. However, getting your ball on to the green is less than half the battle at San Juan Hills. What I love most about the golf course is the greens are PGA pure! Quick as can be with treacherous break on every hole. This insidious combination of speed and break makes good putting a must if your keeping score.
What makes your experience at San Juan Hills one that brings you back is the staff. If you don't stop at the 19th hole your missing out on what makes the course one of my favorite. The ambiance, the food and of course the staff make you feel good about your round no matter how you played.
I strongly recommend this golf course to everyone who plays golf. Having said that if you are new to the game your going to want to bring some extra balls.
Decent Morning Round
Paired up with some nice gentlemen, course is in fair shape, fairways are poor, greens okay. First fairway was flooded due to broken water line
One Flew OVer the Cuckoos Nest
Arrived early and Ray was behind the counter, Very cordial Employee. Offered to send me out early and I took the offer.
Big Mistake.
I ended up riding with one of those guys, you know the guy or maybe you are him. Only knows two positions on the cart pedals. Full throttle or full brake. I lost half of my coffee before the 150 yard marker on the first hole. Also he must have left the nursing home without taking his medication. Was semi stable on the front nine, but after getting a cup of coffee at the turn he went abnormal. The course is in good shape for a muni course. Green in good condition.
Going out early you are playing in a mix of elderly guys who are less that average and can keep a pace of play going.
The cou
An average course for an average price.
The whole course (fairways, greens, tees, and sandtraps) were in average shape - not real good, but not real bad. The many elevated greens that were well protected with large traps in front made the course challanging. Some greens were bumpy, which added to the difficulty.
let us out early
they asked if i had reservation page and i have used this service a few times now and never been asked for it before. I was told by the desk that the new manager requires a copy because some have come and not paid? Not sure why that would happen if my name is on their computer cant they just ask for ID?
The guy was nice and almost seemed a little embarassed but just doing what he was told.
Better course
Fairway not good at all
Staff members are not friendly
High. Price to play
I will not go back to play any more~~
Good experience
First time to play this course. The greens were in great shape. The fairways need some attention. The proshop staff was very welcoming. I will go back again.
This course is well maintained and fair.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The course was in great condition with the fairways cut and the greens rolled. I like the GPS system right in the cart which really helped with distances on an unfamiliar course. Some longer par 4's are difficult to reach in two if you're not a big hitter but overall the course is fair.
great track and a great find. will be back.
I played san juan hills on 11/26/13. We teed off at 730 and the weather was perfect. I was very surprised with how well the course was maintained and how friendly the staff was. This is a must play and a hidden gem. I would recommended this course to any player of any skill level.
Good conditions
The greens are what make this course interesting. Good luck reading them
Nice course with tricky greens.
Good test of golf with rolling hills, plenty of bunkers, and very challenging greens with subtle breaks.
Be sure to stay below the hole. It is very easy to 3 putt from above the hole as greens can be lightning fast.
For the golfnow price it was a fairly good deal.
Course wasn't in all that good of shape. Fairways were pretty hammered and not what I expected at all. I'll give it another shot sometime, but to pay full price there are other courses in the area in much better shape.
Got what was paid for.
SJHGC is a tremendous value. The golf course was in nice shape. Maintained like a normal public course. Pace of play was a bit slow but considering the location and weather conditions, not really a negative. The shining star of this course is the reconditioned clubhouse, exquisit!!
Thursday Golf
They had just arriated the greens and tee boxes, the previous weekend. Of course putting was ridiculous, but all in all, it was a good day
the front 9 was closed and we played the back 9 twice and it took about 6 hours
The front 9 was closed and we played the back 9 twice and it was very slow and took about six hours.
Beautiful setting!
Our foursome loved playing this course and will be back again.
slow/costly
We teed off at 11:50 am and walked off course on 17 at 5:10! Foursome in front of us, walked off after 16...Ridiculous! Marshall apologized said guys in tournament in front of us were
"amateur drinkers"!
Won't be back.
Fun but with issues
Greens were in great shape nice and fast. Fairways were beat up and on #9 you have to keep your cart on the cart path. Not good if you push the ball on the left side of the fairway. Slow round but that is to be expected at these public courses.
Fun track
Always enjoyable and we moved at a good pace. Finished in 4 hours.
