San Juan Hills Golf Club
About
Tucked away in the hills of San Juan Capistrano, San Juan Golf Course is situated midway between Los Angeles and San Diego. Its location is conveniently close to Legoland, Disneyland, the San Diego Zoo, and miles of sandy beaches. The championship golf course underwent a major renovation of its fairways and greens, making them some of the best in south Orange County. The layout consists of a diverse array of holes that range in length from short to long and some are hilly while others are flatter. Being a public golf course and having a versatile layout, San Juan G.C. is a popular place for tournaments and events. At either end of the course there are practice facilities as well. On the west side you'll find a putting green and sand bunker as well as a chipping area, and on the other end you'll find a grass driving range.

Challenging course. beautiful day. Pace of play was excellent
Very friendly staff. Enjoyed our round, played in 4 hours.
We would go back to this course, had played it in the past.
Lovely location. We were lucky and had beautiful weather.
Good local course
I drove 30 minutes to play San Juan. I can't say it was worth the drive. The good....weather was very nice, staff was super cool, greens was in fairly decent shape, 19th hole bar was very nice. The bad....course layout was was blah, fairway was terrible as was the tee box, had some issues with other players but that's not the course fault. All in all, I think that if you are close by its worth playing.
Greens were in great shape and challenging
I haven't played this course recently and was pleased to see the course was in great shape. I don't recall the greens being this challenging. They were fast but fair. I did'nt make too many putts but that will bring me back.
A Good Round
While not long with generous fairways, there are plenty of elevation changes to keep you thinking. It's in pretty good shape and you'll need more than one round to get used to the greens which are large and undulated. It's a good value during weekend afternoons and has some interesting holes.
Fun, All around course.
Golf carts: Basic GPS system telling you distances to/from green (center, back, and front) as well as hazards to front, and to clear).
Tee Boxes: some tee boxes were hard to find flat spots. Overall in good condition. Three sets of tees; red, white and blue.
Fairways: Good maintained condition w/ yardage markers and target flags on doglegs.
Bunkers: some bunkers have good sand, others have thin layer of sand w/ compact clay under.
Water: very well maintained. Only a few holes have water you need to worry about.
Greens: slow when I went in Aug 2013. Small ungulations, but relatively flat. Well kept w/ little to no divots and dry patches.
Cart girls: saw them several times throughout the round. Friendly.
Starter unfreindly
Greens nice but tee time not set after making through golf now and starter made me wait for call and was snide.
Great value
It has wellmaintained fairway and green. It is a great value for a reasonable price.
I think it is the best in Orange County.
Beautiful course
Fun to play. Not for the novice player as many holes are long.
Nice local place for a great round
The variety of holes is really great at this course. The play was a lil slow but that disnt bother us. The course was well taken care of and the greens consistent.
Lot of variety
As a first time visitor I was taken by the differences in each hole played- a lot of elevated, sand trapped greens, some water and uphill/downhill shots. The length of the course is deceptive as it plays longer than the card. Nice club house facility with a very good bar/cafe.
Fun golf course for any level player.
Very nice course with challenging greens. Very little back up at the tees. They space groups out well. Not much of a discount but for $53.00 it was in a good price range for a really nice golf course. The course is right off the freeway and very easy to get to coming from L.A., Orange or San Diego counties. I would go back any time. Fun course! Good people working there!
A very hilly course. Tough to walk it anymore.
Quite different from when I played it 20 years ago. Still, it's a very nice course.
This course is 100% better condition then 1.5 years ago
Well worth playing. Greens are fantastic. I would play again
Nice but.....
Had a 12:48 tee time that turned into a 1:12 because of a Tournament, which turned into a 1:28 tee time because of the mens club. Should have put us out after the tourney and before the mens club. Let the mens club wait another 8 minutes vs. guests waiting 40 minutes?
BEST GREENS and FAIRWAYS...
Im in love with this course... They have it together with groomed fast pure greens and fairways of rolling green grass and beautiful lake on #1 tee, no weeds or super long rough grass areas. Shots accuracy is must around alot of the greens and fairways.
Pay no attention to these other comments of the once a month golfer, once amoth your overly expecting I feel... I am on the links three times a week, this place was very refreshing and beutiful.
This place is great quality/price.
Good Value; Good Greens
Teed off as a threesome at noon on Saturday. We were done with our round by 3:35. The pace was very good and we very rarely had to wait to tee off. The fairways and rough had some dead patches and water-logged areas. The greens, on the other hand, were in relatively good shape. There were some unrepaired pitch marks but balls generally rolled very well.
Not Worth the money
Although not an expensive course, we have played cheaper that were in much better shape. No one knows how to fix a divot and traps not raked (golfer issue or lack of marshall). Very few tee boxes were level.
NOT worth $50
The new clubhouse is very nice.....however I was lucky enough to get green fee for $37 because if I had paid $50 like most golfers I would have felt like I just wasted my money. This course needs work in many areas including fairways and greens
Great course. Great price.
Overall, I give it a 7.5.
Tee'd off at 1:30 as a single joining up w/ another single and a 2some. Finished at 5:30p. Fairways ranged from well groomed, to a couple of dry spots here and there. Greens were even paced....not slow, not fast.
Had a par 5 on the front and 2 par 4's on the back that were "cart path only".
I'd pay $45 to play this course anytime.
