San Juan Hills Golf Club
About
Tucked away in the hills of San Juan Capistrano, San Juan Golf Course is situated midway between Los Angeles and San Diego. Its location is conveniently close to Legoland, Disneyland, the San Diego Zoo, and miles of sandy beaches. The championship golf course underwent a major renovation of its fairways and greens, making them some of the best in south Orange County. The layout consists of a diverse array of holes that range in length from short to long and some are hilly while others are flatter. Being a public golf course and having a versatile layout, San Juan G.C. is a popular place for tournaments and events. At either end of the course there are practice facilities as well. On the west side you'll find a putting green and sand bunker as well as a chipping area, and on the other end you'll find a grass driving range.

love the scenery
Looks and feel like a private course but at a public course price.
Ok for a last minute round.
I had made reservations on the golfnow site - lucky I printed them out and took it with me because the pro shop said it wasn't in their system.
Local favorite. I always meet nice golfers here. Very good value.
You can usually get out on short notice. The layout is walkable, but I'm not sure if walking is allowed. Par 71 with 5 par threes. I'll come back again and again.
this course is ok.
Greens were aerated when we played. Course is decent. I will not pay full price to play this course.
this course is ok
The green were aerated when we played . Its a decent course. I will not pay the full price when playing this course.
decent course over all
Its a decent course for twilight rates, I would not pay full price to play here when there are nicer courses in the area with similar rates.
The course was beautiful. I will definitely be playing here often!
I thought the course was beautiful. I love the chance to play a long course. I have played the twice now. Since my game has improved greatly since my first appearance, I was able to appreciate the course dynamics much more. I intend to play here often!
This course is very beautiful.
This Course's fairway is well maintained and green condition is good.
A bit quirky, has some tough holes
Not a bad course. Greens had been punched recently, so putting was questionable, but should be reasonably fast when back to normal. Course is not long from the tips, but has some quirky holes that demand tight shots; I used 3 wood off the tee on most par 4s. Fairways could use some maintenance. Both 9 and 18 are par 3s. Prevailing winds make finishing holes a challenge. Pace of play wasn't too bad (a little over 4.5 hrs mid-day Saturday), and the rates are relatively inexpensive by So Cal standards (Orange Co.). Club house has bar and restaurant that's been nicely updated in the last few years. For the money, not sure you could do much better for close-in Orange Co.
Everything was good including new clubhouse
Friday afternoon tee tine...beautiful day...so expected slow play and it was...greens just punched but manageable...all things considered look forward to doing it again
BAD management of course
At 14th hole, 2 guys left in my group and the marshall holds me down to play 2 groups behind, which is unreal. I lost my game and just waiting each hole all the way to 14th hole because of the groups are beginners. Bad course management!! and the way they respond to my complaint was bad as well. I wouldn't recomend to anyone who wants to play this course.
Great layout!
I had played this course about 10yrs ago and recently played with my son and although the greens had been recently punched, the layout with the mature old trees made for a good shot making day. I would recommend this course to my friends especially once the greens come back from being aerated.
Greens Looked Like a Peg Board! Mini-Punch
I've played this course since 1986, and I know it well. It's usually a great track for making you feel good. It's not tough (except a few holes), the staff is great and the restaurant rocks, but good heavens the greens looked like peg boards. Yeah, I know they were aerated, but haven't you heard of micro punches? If you can putt, don't bother until the greens come back in a couple weeks. The rest of the course was a gem.
Fairways terrible. Greens too slow
Course in bad shape. Very slow on the back 9.
Fairways were not good.
San Juan Hills
Great course played in just under 4 hours. Greens were in great shape.
Well Maintained
The starter informed us my youngest son could have played for just $7 but because we booked online he could not change the fee @ $25 per player ( a great price for adults). It was a family day. I brought my 2 boys, 13 & 16 and my brother.
Well maintained and challenging
Greens were in good condition and fast. Very few locations on the fairways were not in good condition. This is my preferred local track.
Great course for the price, nice features
Played San Juan Hills for the first time yesterday and I was impressed. I was impressed by the interesting and challenging layout, the friendly and welcoming staff and the live band that was playing at the 18th hole. This place has it together. The views are beautiful, and the greens are in very good condition.
Greens are amazing
This course is basically a muni style layout. Relatively short par 4's even from the blues with rather challenging par 3's. The holes in general are boring except for #16 and I believe 17 which both have water. There is also a nice downhill par five dogleg left which is a fun hole. However, most of the par 4's are unimaginative, flat, straight as an arrow. There are a number of elevated greens which makes for a challenge. The best part BY FAR are the greens. Superbly kept up, absolutely true and very few ball marks. I'd put the green up with any high end course I've played although they tend to play rather straight. Sand in bunkers is brown, but pretty fluffy and very fair to come out of. The fairways are just horrible. I sympathize with the greenskeepers as I'm sure the course gets a lot of play and the dirt doesn't seem to be the best. I also felt the $70 was pretty high and expected more for the money off golfnow.com. I play far better courses in San Jose for less money. The folks there were very nice, cart girl was great, and all in all, we had a good time. I'd give it a 5/10.
Greens are fast but true. The course is more challenging than it appears.
There's plenty of trouble if you don't hit straight especially holes 6, 10, 13 & 17. The par 5's aren't long but well guarded with traps in front of the greens. With hard greens it's difficult to stop the ball with a fairway wood or long iron.
