Castle Oaks Golf Club is situated on the historic Preston Farmlands. The Preston Castle, built in 1894 overlooks the rolling, oak-studded hills of the course. The course opened a century later but it blends in beautifully with the existing terrain, utilizing the Sutter and Mule Creeks and mature trees as natural hazards. When the golf course opened it was acclaimed as the best public course in northern California and it has remained one of the area's premier courses. The layout has an interesting mix of holes with some that are wide and forgiving and others that are narrow and play alongside environmental hazards. The meandering creeks and several lakes come into play throughout. There are many risk/reward opportunities and golfers will encounter several hazards and out-of-bounds off the tee, but overall the course is player-friendly enough to appeal to any skill level.

The conditions were sloppy due to over watering. What is wrong lately with the courses using too much water

The temperatures have been record high at 110 degrees, water has been increased to allow for excess evapotranspiration. The extensive wild fire smoke has also reduced evaporation rates. Turf conditions will normalize once these extreme events pass.

Really like Castle Oaks

Castle Oaks is a very underrated course. Staff is always friendly and the course is an interesting mixture of easy holes mixed in with some very tough holes. Like all good courses it rewards you for good shots and will punish you for the bad ones. Pace of play is usually good; finished today’s round in under 4 hours.

I haven’t played for a while because of COVID-19. Went with my son and I was a simply a great day of golf. Great course in excellent condition. Pace of play was great. Waited a couple minutes a couple times. It was nice to get back out. The greens are beautiful

Beautiful day for a round of golf.

Weather perfect in the mid 90’s with occasional breeze and a good pace of the play.. Well manicured greens with minimum divots under the circumstances. Adequate length fairways and some dog legs give enough a challenge for the first time player. Had only one birdie but minimum bogeys helped a lower score. Super friendly staff who are friendly and efficient.
