Castle Oaks Golf Club
About
Castle Oaks Golf Club is situated on the historic Preston Farmlands. The Preston Castle, built in 1894 overlooks the rolling, oak-studded hills of the course. The course opened a century later but it blends in beautifully with the existing terrain, utilizing the Sutter and Mule Creeks and mature trees as natural hazards. When the golf course opened it was acclaimed as the best public course in northern California and it has remained one of the area's premier courses. The layout has an interesting mix of holes with some that are wide and forgiving and others that are narrow and play alongside environmental hazards. The meandering creeks and several lakes come into play throughout. There are many risk/reward opportunities and golfers will encounter several hazards and out-of-bounds off the tee, but overall the course is player-friendly enough to appeal to any skill level.

A little deferred maintenance, the sign got hot and buckled so you can't use the ball washer Photo submitted by Cops1998 on 07/28/2018

Most of the greens are kidney shaped, designed perpendicular to the fairway, so you don't want to go long, but plenty of run left/right Photo submitted by Cops1998 on 07/28/2018

Castle Oaks comes from the old castle-looking build seen from the 16th fairway, that was the 1st juvenile detention facility in CA built in the the early 1900s. It was closed in the 1970s. Photo submitted by Cops1998 on 07/28/2018

Good Challenging Course
This course will challenge every facet of your game. Wide fairways, but if you stray there is thick rough and plenty of hazards around to make you pay. Large undulating greens rolling well, course is in very good shape.
Favorite course
I love playing here. Well maintained. Cheap rates. Challenging course.
Great course and value
Greens were very slow, recently punched and sanded. But the rest if the course is in great shape. We'll laid out. Had a lot of fun.
Great course
Great course, well maintained, excellent value, challenging greens
Great course
I love playing castle oaks. Played there 3 times now and already looking forward to another round there. I just wish you got free balls on the practice range before your round. Other that I have no complaints.
Excellent course
Excellent course. I played on a day that rained in the morning and it was extreemly windy in the afternoon. After finding out clubbing up 2 clubs against the wind with clean crisp shots I quickly realized that 3 clubs up was the right call for the day. The fairways were not saturated by the rain and not muddy as I would have expected, for I was able to play a great shot from every lye. Every time i play here the Greens are always in excellent condition. I highy recommend this course to those who have never played here.
Great course and great deal
Only $28.00 with a cart for 7:30 tee time. Great deal
Better than most
Castle Oaks is a fantastic course for any level of golfer. It is far better than most public courses and even better than a lot of private courses. Very well maintained and groomed. You won't find a better track for the price.
Great round
I should not complain about anything as I played one of my best rounds ever here. Altho it was cool when we started, it warmed up quickly. Fairways and greeens were in excellent condition. Tees and rough were spotty.
love it
great course , still cant figure out how to play 18th hole .
love this course
Great greens course overall good condtion have played here a few times always great
good layout, fun to play
Pace of play needs better management by staff and greens were very slow
Rate of play was unusually slow this round. Normally about 4-4.5 hrs.
This is always a very beautiful course and I always enjoy the golf. The course is always well maintained and I can use all of my clubs because there is always grass under the ball. Even during the hottest part of the summer, the course was in excellent shape. I would and do recommend it to my friends.
Good condition slow greens
Course was in good shape. Greens are grainy and slower about
9 on stimp meter
Great course. We would play again.
Great course and a super value with Golf Now.
It was a nice ride in the country getting there. A Beautiful town to explore.
We are looking forward to playing it again.
Fun and challenging course
This course is well maintained and has some very interesting layouts of holes. It is more hilly than it appears when you drive in to the parking lot. The grass was very well maintained as well as the bunkers. There are a few bunkers that were monstrous. I expected to find lounge chairs and mai tais waiting in the bunker on 17. Played with 2 knowledgable guys that helped with ball placement so I played better than if I had been alone. The map on the scorecard is not a good measure of the course. Overall very fun and great price through golfnow.com.
Great shape throughout, athough the greens needed a hair cut the morning we played. Tough to put well when battling morning dew and long grass.
Always a consistently good quality course to play.
Great course, tee time delay course management poor.
Showed up for tee time 30 minutes prior didn't tee off until 45 minutes late the process was very unorganized and play was very slow. The course was fun and challenging I shot a good round.
one of my favorites in the Sac area
moderately challenging with nice greens that roll true without kicking your tail.. nice property with subtle rolling elavation changes.. fair amount of trees, bunkers & water.. I would play here more often if there were more deals under $35
