Castle Oaks Golf Club
About
Castle Oaks Golf Club is situated on the historic Preston Farmlands. The Preston Castle, built in 1894 overlooks the rolling, oak-studded hills of the course. The course opened a century later but it blends in beautifully with the existing terrain, utilizing the Sutter and Mule Creeks and mature trees as natural hazards. When the golf course opened it was acclaimed as the best public course in northern California and it has remained one of the area's premier courses. The layout has an interesting mix of holes with some that are wide and forgiving and others that are narrow and play alongside environmental hazards. The meandering creeks and several lakes come into play throughout. There are many risk/reward opportunities and golfers will encounter several hazards and out-of-bounds off the tee, but overall the course is player-friendly enough to appeal to any skill level.

Most of the greens are kidney shaped, designed perpendicular to the fairway, so you don't want to go long, but plenty of run left/right Photo submitted by Cops1998 on 07/28/2018

Castle Oaks comes from the old castle-looking build seen from the 16th fairway, that was the 1st juvenile detention facility in CA built in the the early 1900s. It was closed in the 1970s. Photo submitted by Cops1998 on 07/28/2018

Great Course for the price
This course is one of my favorite course in the Sacramento area. There are some easy holes and some hard but overall it is a awesome course.
One of the best publc courses in the area.
For as wet as it was, the course was still fun to play. The staff and food at the course is very good. Highly recommend it.
course was manicured nicely all markers visible throughout
I can't say enough about this course and the staff
The staff are all accommodating, very friendly and willing to do just about anything. the course conditions were excellent and well maintained. The pace of play moved nicely without any backing up.
I consider this course to be my home course and my favorite
Castle Oaks
Great challenging courses with true quick greens. Have to be a long straight driver from the back tees.
An excellent couse!
The only reason why I'm giving this course four instead of five starts is because the day we went, the kid in the proshop had screwed up most of the times. Granted, there was a frost delay, but they ran a shotgun once the delay was lifted so there wouldn't be any other delays. We had a time for 11:55 and the kid wanted us to wait until after 12:30 when the shotgun came around (and we would tee off behind them). An adult finally came to the rescue and had us start (thirty minutes late) on the 11th to keep pace of play. We were fortunate and finished our round at the last light of day.
All of that aside, the course drained fairly well after all the rains, the greens were rolling pretty quick, and the fairways and tee boxes were all mowed. The bunkers were in pretty bad shape, largely unplayable due to standing water and mud instead of sand, but that's not a surprise when golfing within days of a series of storms.
I would play again and again, I drive 1 hr to the course.
Keep up the excellent work everybody, especially the cart attendents
great shape
course was in awesome shape we got there to early and staff allowed us to tee off my only complaint greens were not mowed all the same
Fun Day
For the recent rains,. the course was in darn good shape,.. only plugged one ball and was able to find it easily. Drainage seems to be much better than last year.
Overall it's a good day of golfing.
Dissapointed at the first tee box, clumps of cut grass all over the tee box and so on at most of the others as well. also there was big chunks of grass around the greens that were tore up as well
First on the course. Played in 3 hrs.
My favorite public course. Pace play is usually good, greens run true.
Beautiful Course
Castle Oaks is within an hour of my home. It is a beautiful course and the conditions are perfect. The staff is always friendly and I always enjoy playing there.
Great course
Greens are fantastic, in the extreem heat they keep them a little and I do mean little long to protect them. The fairways are always in good to excelent shape. The only thing that is not 5 star about this course are the bunkers, They are working on them but some have a few rocks. The staff both inside and out are super. If you get a chance play this course, #1 and #18 are killers.
Great features and layout
A great layout, difficult but fair from the tips. Beautiful scenery except where houses are being built. Always enjoy playing here as it has something for every level of golfer.
Very good food at the restaurant and the personnel at the snack bar are always friendly. Been playing here since it opened probably 5-6 times per year and never tired of it.
Pristine Greens, Very nice course
I've played this course several times this summer and it has never failed to disappoint. Great value and I can't say enough about the excellent condition of the greens. Allowing a group of 5 as the first group of the day slowed things down on my most recent visit but, generally, slow pace of play is not an issue here.
REAL VALUE GREAT COURSE GOOD CONDITION HELPFUL STAFF RELIABLE EQUIP. WE WILL GO AGAIN SOON
REAL VALUE GREAT COURSE GOO CONDITION HELPFUL STAFF RELIABLE EQUIP. WE WILL GO AGAIN SOON
W O W
Bring your A Game. You start with a tough par 5 and things don't let up until you are back at the club house. Very fair but you need to be accurate. Pace of play is very fast. It was great
rude proshop/pro
showed up to course 30 min. early to warm up. was told i couldnt use my card to buy range balls. then was rushed onto the course with 0 time to warm up. the lady who from my understanding is the pro there was extremely rude and pushy. will never spend money to play here again
Hidden gem
This course is a bit of a drive from the Sacramento area but is well worth it. When I stepped on the first tee I could tell they take alot of pride in the condition of the course. For a public track it is in excellent condition. The cafe and bar are excellent for an after round meal or drink or just to go out to eat with out golf. I will return as often as I can.
Would recommend this course for all.
This course is a good test without severe difficulty but has challenging golf holes. The greens are always in excellent shape. Through GolfNow it's a best value proposition.
