Should be called hidden gem
Interesting Palmer layout, very much target golf with quite a few forced carries and some blind shots. That being said I played this type of course quite a bit for many years being from Northern California and am pretty used to it and the challenges they present. That being said I would go back in a heartbeat. The pace of play was quite good, it’s tucked out of the way so I would imagine they get mostly regular and local traffic. Greens were fast but not diabolical, they had been punched recently but were recovering nicely and were very true considering. Tee boxes were a little less than stellar, but they have a grass driving range which, for me, will make up for a little thing like having to take an extra couple of seconds to find a good spot for the peg. All in all fun course that’s challenging but not absurdly so for the mid-handicapper. But most definitely not for beginners
Hiddenbrooke is one of the more challenging courses in the bay area
In my opinion, Hiddenbrooke is one of the more challenging courses in the area. While the course is in really good condition (fairways, greens, tee boxes), the Golf Carts are a bit old and torn up, the areas between the tee boxes could be in much better shape and there should be more Marshalls moving people along. My Saturday round was going to take close to 6 hours.
Good test
This unique layout gives a good true test of a golfer’s game at any level. It is a real shot maker’s course with plenty of trouble. The elevation changes make it fun in three dimensions and give an exciting challenge to the eye.
Nice course to play
The weather was a bit windy and the greens were quite dry and fast. It was a challenging course.
A tough track but worth the challenge
This is a challenging course and it's not for an inexperienced golfer. You won't likely shoot your best score here but you'll play some pretty cool holes. You need to be able to put the ball in certain places otherwise you'll get punished. The layout is varied with very few flat holes. The wind was prevalent on most holes (and it rarely felt like it was helping). The greens were very sloped and fast, and quite unforgiving. A few holes have very tough green locations and then tough pins as well. Get the yardage book because there's no GPS. There's not a lot of water in play but it's there and on your mind. It has a lot of the Troon features - knowledgeable staff, good practice facilities, full shop and grille, etc.
Course conditions
Fairways and greens are beautiful. Like most of the courses in Bay Area bunkers are a little rough. Overall beautiful golf course.
Hidden Gem
Well maintained, challenging layout, tricky greens…overall beautiful first round experience. Will come back for more.
First Round this year
Looked forward to seeing what the course looked like after work had been done on the tees and traps last year. Tees were in good shape, along with the greens and fairways. Looking forward to seeing what the course looks like when summer arrives.
Slow pace
Easy golf course to play for advanced golfer, the only bad thing about golf courses this days they just want the money they don’t care anymore about pace of play in my group 2 people playin for second time in their life, and the group in front same thing super slow the marshals was just sitting in his car doing something else. Green were still healing from aeration.
