Fun course
Despite the community being built around this course. It was awesome had a great time a will come back again.
Starter the fix it man
Played Wellen yesterday following a very large outing for Venice Little League. The starter told us thing we’re behind schedule and he would do his best to get everyone out asap. Not only did we get out on time but he joined our twosome up with a great guy and he was sending groups on not #1 and #10 tee boxes to get caught up.
The course is in perfect condition and the greens roll true. The staff is always awesome starting with the bag drop and pro shop. We will return as often as we can afford it.
great course
best course in Venice-although only two years old Troon company did an incredible job building/opening this course the tees, fairways are a beautiful green rug-greens are excellent. range has free balls and nice to loosen up before starting a round. I have played all the courses in venice and this is by far-the best.
Great conditions, new course. No review on the course amenities because it's a new course and they are building still. Can't fault them for that
The good - range included, pace of play was good didn't get held up too much would be a 4.5 (still had some late some tee box waiting but really not bad at all). Staff was friendly and most importantly conditions were great.
The bad - Layout was real cookie cutter, a lot of similar holes. Not bad holes but I couldn't tell you what was my favorite or least favorite and for the price eh probably won't be back
Side note - New greens, nothing on them, but man don't bump and run. They can be brutal
Pleasant round
This is the fourth time I’ve played this course. The courses in great shape, the development around it is still in progress. There’s a new community being constructed which is a distraction now eventually it will be beautiful. The holes are a little bit straightforward. I would suggest putting some more trees in strategic places.
I recommend playing this course and will return myself as well. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The clubhouse is still a work in progress as well, but seems to be fairly well along.
Great course..
Great staff
Need to hurry up with restrooms
And eating/drinking building
Great Course Slow Play
Very Nice Course in excellent shape. Followed a foursome that was incredibly slow. No one in front of them and they backed up us and everyone behind. Desperately needed a ranger. Our cart died on hole eight and we still waited for the group in front. Replacement cart died on hole 18. Fortunately all carts are being replaced on 5/15/24. Club house is currently a trailer but new club house is scheduled to open May 15, 2024. If you don't have an ultra slow group in front, you will like the course.
These guys take care of the course and greens
Course is in great condition. Straight forward layout. Greens rolled very true
Quirky Layout
The layout is strange and dangerous at times. Due to the fact that there are so many cookie cutter homes that were playing around and through. The course is well maintained.
Nice course. A few temporary problems
Greens are in beautiful condition. Rolled quite quick, and received the ball well. Very nice.
Tee boxes were all excellent.
Fairways are mostly generous and a few dog legs make you think about club selection off the tee - a good variety.
Bunkers all had lots of sand, and played as expected.
The course is set in a construction zone right now - I simply didn’t know this in advance - could have been my oversight. The community looks like it will be nice in the future, just not yet. Lots of machinery running all around you. Trees have yet to be planted anywhere, so it looks very barren and open. I am assuming they will add some. There wasn’t much wind the day we played, but was told it’s usually quite windy.
An oddity: GPS on our two carts weren’t set to the same pin locations so unfortunately, with the large greens, our two carts would Often show the yardage as off by as much as 20 yards! We didn’t notice this until half way through the round. Once we figured that out, we had a better idea of the yardage - but when one cart says it’s 86 yards and the other says it’s 103 yards, it’s difficult to play well.. Told them when we returned the cart and got a “who cares” reply. I guess he isn’t a golfer who understands how important yardage is.
Overall, I think given the circumstances of the construction zone, temporary toilets, no food (yet) low quality carts, etc the fee just wasn’t competitive compared to other courses I played this week. Again this was given the circumstances of the surrounding conditions.
What a difference a year makes!
I played Wellen Park last year and was disappointed. This year the course has matured with the fairways and greens being in excellent condition. The designers would have benefited from an additional 20 acres to provide better spacing between some holes and this would have avoided a couple of extreme doglegs. I look forward to my next round here.
