Peacock Gap Golf Club
About
Peacock Gap Golf Club extends along the shores of San Pablo Bay, but it sits inland enough to avoid the fogginess of the coast and enjoy consistently sunny weather throughout the year. The course's layout has undergone many renovations over the years that have brought it to its current playability, including a new drainage system, new tee boxes, a reshaping of five of the greens, and relocation of bunkers. The golf course kept the classic features of its original layout though, such as the inviting fairways that still provide a challenge and the tricky greens that deceptively extend past where the player thinks they end. In addition to the course, Peacock Gap has also improved their practice facilities over the years. There is an all-grass driving range, two large practice greens, and a chipping green.

Sad
This is my local course and it is absolutely unplayable currently.
I hope they get the greens repaired but that's going to be an all summer task. The greens are half dead and by far the worst greens I've ever witnessed. It is really too bad becasue the new ownership has made great strides in getting this nplace turned around.
Not worth 50% off much less the 20% discount they are offering.
Course has potential BUT
Greens are absolutely horrible!! You don't even putt they are so bad. They must have a disease or something. I'd imagine greens will be be closing for awhile to get under control. Think burnt, bumpy, bare muddy spotted green. My advise, go to hole 9 before paying and take a look. Even ask some players.
Avoid until course is re-built
I don't know what the plans are, but the greens have been left to rot. I haven't spoken with anyone, but they must be planning on changing the grass on the greens with the clubhouse re-build currently underway. Every green on the property, including the several practice greens, are half dirt. I paid ten bucks to play and was cheated. The poor guy I played with paid $36 (ouch). Golfnow showed an "aeration alert", but these greens haven't been aerated for many months. This is not currently a playable course.
The greens are unplayable
Great course design and I loved this course. They have serious problem with there greens and are unplayable and will be for some time.
Greens are horrible
I don't know what they're doing with their greens, but they are the worst of any course I've ever played. Looks like they may have had a serious weed problem and they're killing it now, lots of dead spots, divots and sand on greens. Completely horrible.
The course is a good layout, but requires attention
I have played Peacock for many years. The greens are the issue. They sanded them a while ago and there is still quite a bit of sand on them. We played automatic 2 putt once on the"green". Hopefully they will fix this problem soon.
Poor golf experience
I used to really love this course. Over the past 3 years it has gone from a forgotten relic to a restored gem but has fallen back into disrepair & has become quite ugly in many regards.
Sure the new clubhouse & bar are very nice and it is pleasant to see the old building in rubble. The newly designed greens & bunkers make for a much more enjoyable (and fair) round as well. However, my latest experience was lacking in hospitality & included a run-in with extremely rude golfers.
When I showed up to the first tee the starter barely acknowledged my presence. After swinging clubs for about 5 minutes. He asked what I was doing there. Shortly later he told me there was nobody else to pair me with and let me go off as a single. Shortly after that I was in the fairway about to hit when I hear golf balls dropping behind me. The starter had let a twosome tee off when I was in the middle of the fairway. The starter then drives towards me but just keeps on going as I ask him if these two guys are joining me. He yells something as he drives away & his little buddy behind him heckled me for not being on the green yet. Classy.
Luckily the twosome were extremely nice older gentelmen who I enjoyed sharing the round with. However, later in the round a group of "members" start harassing me for hitting into them. I believe my ball landed about 10 yards behind them while they were on the green. It was my drive on a par 4... I didn't realize I would put it that close to the green. I apologized but one of the members decided to use profanity & call me quite a few names before going on with his round. It was a beautiful sunday, nobody was hurt & there was no need for such ugliness. Again, no class.
The worst part of the round was by far the greens. Much more rude than the members! I remember when all the greens were in near perfect shape a year ago. Now they are barely playable. Worst greens in the bay area for a course asking $40 - 75!+.
It appears that Peacock Gap has hit some form of odious complacency after the reboot. From the staff to the members to the greens... the place has fallen far since last year.
Bottom Line: Terrible greens. Cold staff & abusive members. Not worth the money.
Nice layout and value, needs work
The course is good value for money in the area and has a nice layout, but needs work. The greens were practically unplayable due to a fungus problem the course was experiencing -- like putting over sand. The course also has a grass range, which could be great. However, most patrons that go there don't know how to hit off a grass range and take massive divots in random patterns as opposed to nice strips. I like the course, and it's inexpensive, but you need to temper expectations until they fix the greens.
The greens are dead
The overall course was in okay shape but the greens are absolutely terrible. They should not be charging as much as they are with the greens in such bad shape. Putting was nearly impossible.
Greens were horrible, wish I knew I wouldn't have booked...
The greens had some kind of fungus. Thats what the staff told us. It was either no grass and sticky like mud/clay or just sand. I think they should close and fix the problem.
Good location. NIce driving range (grass). Needs the greens repaired
I played this course in the Fall and was pleasantly surprised. The greens were in good shape and the layout was nice. This most recent time (3-3-13), unfortunately, the greens were in terrible shape due to a severe Poa annua infestation. It is the worst infestation I have ever seen. I like the course and its location but will not return until the greens have been repaired.
horrible greens
Greens were the worst greens I have ever played and they didn't even give us a discount!
Greens were awful
For $65, definitely not worth the weekend rate. Almost all of the greens were in poor condition, as if greens were infected by some type of disease causing rot and ugly blemishes across the green surfaces. SF muni Lincoln Park in much better condition for 1/3 of cost. SF golfers stay home.
Fun course with a great pace of play. Amazing grass driving range which is rare.
This is a fun course that is generally in great shape. They are having problems right now with a fungus on the greens. Otherwise, a great time.
With a cart for $77 and the greens were just mud painted green.
Honestly, I like the practice area at Peacock, but the course in the winter isn't even close to worth the fees. I can't believe they think the greens are even worth having the course open right now. I haven't played golf for that long, but there wasn't a single green out of all 18 holes that was worth the price. Until the greens are improved, I will only use the practice facility.
Course is really nice except . . .
The greens are the big downfall of this course. The fairways are in very good condition. They have a nice lounge area and grass driving range. (although the range balls are pricey) Also it was not crowded at all. But the greens are very poor, they are a combination of grass and green mud, which marks very easily. I would probably play this course again.
usually a good course
greens were really bad, a fungus or something as a moss was crowding out the grass.Rest of course was fine.
Beautiful course, greens in disrepair.
Greens were damaged and bumpy. Seemed to be in process of repair.
Ok course but kind of dull
This course was kind of blah, not too many standout holes. There were a few water hazards, but most of the holes were straight forward and did not require much strategy. The greens were terrible but we did play in mid January, so I'll give them a pass on that. We played on a Saturday and had to wait at most holes and the round took a full 5 hours.
The proshop was tiny but the range was fantastic! In my opinion, it was a little pricey for a muni course experience.
