Decent course
After reading a few positive reviews I booked a round with my wife. The course was short and tight. Got to hit them straight here. Half the tee boxes were sand. All the greens were hard and fast. Noticed that the ground was not flat around the holes so a slow putt would turn away from the hole. Really strange. Layout was nice. Looks like there was a lot of work in progress. Lots of spots on the fairway not covered with grass. Very bad lies on dirt. Golf carts were good.
Much improved!
Sugar Creek course has come a long way! The greens are in excellent shape, especially coming out of winter. The course is well laid out and has some challenging holes.
My only complaint is the pace of play. The Marshalls don't seem to be a but concerned. Only ended up playing 13 of 18 due to slow play :(
Greens were in great condition, considering the many of the fairways were soggy or had water pools from rains the previous two days.
Very pleasant lady in the golf shop and helpful staff overall.
Poor course condition
First, a frost delay created an extensive backup in play. While, weather cannot be controlled, course management could have communicated the situation better to give people. Choice about whether or not to play that day. It took 5 hours to play 14 holes (without any break at the turn).
Second, the course conditions are really bad - even for winter. Maybe they should have closed the course for a few winter months to let fairways and greens recover. We spent about $75 for 2 with cart. I think it my be worth it to me to pay $10-20 more to play on a nicer course…..
Do Not Play!
First time playing course and it will be the last. In horrible condition from tee to green. Hole #3 had 3 separate holes with cups still in the green.
Best part about this course was the fact that I know I’ll never go back.
Course is Getting Better
This course has improved. There are still some areas that need attention. Where the fairways are bare, the hard clay ground needs to be broken-up and reseeded or sod placed. Maybe that will happen in the spring.
Otherwise, the greens are in good condition.
This is winter time, so I expect the spring will be better, expecially if bare spots on the fairway get attention. My suggestion would be to rope off some of the bare fairway areas in the spring, when it is reseed or resoded.
Overall, enjoyed the course and it is a good value and enjoyable course.
Turning around!
I like the layout, front nine plays longer and tougher, while back-nine gives an opportunity to improve score. Greens are in better shape and hope the county keeps improving the Greens just as they got the fairways back to good condition!
On Track
They've been putting work into the course and its starting to shape up. Greens are nice and the layout is fun. It's not fancy but it''s a nice little round for the money.
Highly recommend
I read all the reviews about this course and most of them were remarkably accurate. Its been renovated and is in great shape. I interacted with several employees, including the manager, and found them all to be exceptionally friendly and willing to help. The pace of play was good, there was a foursome ahead of me who were very slow and ignorant of the courtesies of golf but I skipped a hole to get around them and kept up a good pace. One of the biggest drawbacks of golfing at this course is the drainage, when it rains the course floods. Still, considering its the first week of January, the course is in excellent shape. Several of the greens had ballmarks that weren't repaired but that's on the golfers, not the staff.
