Good layout
I was told to stay away from this course. I was glad I didn't. Layout is really amazing. You could tell it was built 100 years ago.
Looks like they are working hard on restoring it. Can't wait to come back and see it again next time I come up.
If you like old school courses it's worth the play.
horrible course
The course is in terrible shape. I will not be returning, worst golf course I have ever seen.
Give it time: I guess….
I hear after being there that the course is under new management. Not worth $20 for 18, not even $15. The course is not in good shape. I can not say much of anything positive so I will just stop here.
Great course for beginners or those wanting to refine their game!
We are beginners, actively taking lessons, and wanted to play a course that we would have time to practice our technique. This course has a group managing it now, trying to get money into it and people playing so improvements can be made. The course itself is a nice course and enjoyable--it needs some improvements, but it also needs support of people to play it so MONEY comes in. The staff was SO nice and friendly--everything was so simple and perfect for us as we learn skills. Grass was high on some fairways--but that just helped us to learn skills of how to handle that. The greens were not bad. Again, improvements take time but this little course just needs a bit of love that I believe will come with more support. A gentleman in front of us was teaching his son some skills--they had a ball and we did too. We'll be back. Locals know the story behind this and that the city didn't have funds to do much--hopefully this management team will and some progress will come. Sure hope so, because I've been few places I was treated any nicer.
good practice facility
ok place for the money. city course trying to get back to in shape. cold windy day
Very poor conditions
The course was horrible!!!!!! really non-playable conditions. They moved all tee boxes which left your yardage at a guess. Also they moved all greens to the fairway for putting in the fairway. ridiculous!!! Due to the fact that they over seeded all greens. Never have I've seen a course in such conditions.. No alerts on golfnow that this course was in such bad condition .was in town visiting friends for the weekend played Saturday at the river golf club . Figured we play Sunday before heading back to North Carolina . I've been playing golf for 25 years and have never seen such a poor excuse for a golf course that should be shut down until completely redone.
Used to be a good course
This course was probably once very nice but the Augusta city budget has not allowed the course to be kept up. The staff was extremely friendly and the layout was fine. The fairways were fair at best but the greens were unacceptable. I got a great deal to play there and it was probably worth the money but just barely.
Sad course...
I felt bad golfing here. This course needs so much attention and maintenance. It would take years to get it to a C ranked course.
The Patch lives up to its name!
I've played there through the years (15) and each time its gets just a little worse. Last year I said to myself never again and now I'm sure never again. The tees boxes are destroyed, fairways look like a bad lawn and greens were the worst I've ever played on. Although there are actual greens they we in the condition of the fairways with huge weeds and bare spots all over them. Main reason I went there was to test a new driver which turned out well since I could hit 4 tee shots on each hole. Hit appraoch shots and a some pitches but never putted. OK $8 practice session but course can not be played.
The course is highly undermanaged. It is public, so I am sure it has to deal with Richmond County funding.
The greens are ragged, the grounds are hard and worse than my backyard. The skeleton crew that they do have left tries their best to maintain it. I can see that from the work they put in. Keep the course alive, advertise and lower to prices to build up revenue. $20 dollars would be a waste of money. Please fix it, because the course layout has the ability to be gorgeous.
It's Seen Better Days
Overall, the course was fine for working on basics like swing speed and good ball contact. However, between people playing in t-shirts and jean shorts and the poor state of the greens and fairways, the round wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been. Even though the greens fees are cheap, I probably won't play the course again.
Golf Meeca's Red Headed Step child
You would think that a city with one of the greatest golf courses in the world would keep up their Muni.......Not so....
Bad management by city officials has run it's course here.
I had fun playing with a few local guys but was sorley disapointed in the condition. I say it's better than a driving range for $10 bucks you can hit and run all day..putting......not there.
Holes have not been moved in 3-months..size of a soup bowl and ragged. Maybe the winner of the masters could donate to the cause.
