Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club
About
Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club is situated in the heart of South Hall County. The course sprawls across 150 acres of rolling countryside with natural wetlands comprising 19 of those acres. The golf course has a traditional Scottish links design that also incorporates a few mountain holes. It's a layout that will always keep you guessing. It may not be the most formidable golf course in the area, but it shouldn't be underestimated either. The course strikes a good balance between being forgiving enough for high handicappers and challenging enough for more advanced players. The par 3s are tough and the diverse par 4s come in all shapes and sizes. Royal Lakes Golf & C.C. is a shot maker's layout that requires accuracy and thoughtful strategy. The most memorable hole on the golf course is the par-5 11th, which features an intimidating island green.

Hole 11 Green Photo submitted by baldeagle218 on 05/17/2019
Course was in great shape although greens had been sanded recently but putted well
Spend it somewhere else
This course is rough, and not because its hard. Carts dont have GPS, or coolers. For 70 a dollar tee time, i got beer in a plastic bag with ice. Didn't provide a map and no hole layout at the tee boxes. Cart paths are destroyed, greens are riddled with divots and bare spots, the fairways are has hard as concrete. The residence that live along the course are horrible. Homeowners blowing leaves 10ft from the tee boxes having zero consideration, another homeowner with 10 dogs in the backyard barking like crazy, and the homeowner screams obscene language on a backswing. For the money, this is the worst golf course in North Georgia.
Extremely Disappointing Experience — Avoid This Course
Where do I even begin? This was one of the worst golf experiences I’ve ever had. The only reason this place gets two stars is because of the restaurant staff — they were the only bright spot in an otherwise miserable day.
1. No course maps or GPS on the carts — just guess where you’re going.
2. No coolers provided — I was literally handed a Chinese takeout bag filled with ice.
3. The pro shop didn’t even sell tees.
4. No course marshal anywhere during the entire 4-hour round.
5. The course conditions were terrible — the fairways felt like hitting off concrete.
6. Homeowners yelling profanity from their porches mid-swing.
7. Dogs running loose on the course, charging players at the tee box.
8. Teenagers joyriding past us to skip holes — clearly not paying customers.
9. Tried to speak with the golf pro, but he was “busy working on something in his office.”
This place is a disaster from top to bottom. Save your money and play somewhere that actually values golfers. The homeowners’ behavior says everything you need to know about this course — classless and poorly managed.
Maintenance needs
The cart paths are very bad. Bring a kidney belt. Greens still need allot of TLC. Layout is great and staff were great. In my opinion, a Little pricey for the quality.
Royal.
Good course to play fairways were in good condition greens were decent some spotty greens. It’s a fun course to play but wouldn’t pay $60 to play it. Cart girl was frequent the pace of play was excellent. I’ll play again for a Golfnow deal.
Fun Track But Needs Some TLC
This was the first time I played this course so will
provide overall positives and negatives: Positives: 1) Pro Shop and Starter were very friendly and helpful during the check-in process.2). The course layout was overall pretty good with some challenging holes but really wide open. 3) pace of play was pretty good but got backed up badly on the back nine. 4) was worth the value when getting a deal. Negatives: 1) Course has so much potential but just needs some additional TLC - greens had some really rough spots, bunkers without sand, cart paths were rough and add some monitors in the carts for yardage calcs. Was fun playing a little different course but hoping the greens can be fixed by next summer.
Fun, course
Second time playing, several lakes adds to the challenge. A couple of quirky holes, some poor sand traps. Added to our rotation
Cart Paths
The course is in great shape. Greens are good. I have played this course many times. The only problem is the cart paths. They need to replace them all with they will never do. But be ready to get bounced around.
Bumpy cart paths
The course was nice, I’d recommend playing when it’s not cart path only. Extremely bumpy and run down cart paths.
First time, but coming back
Great lay out, scenic. Front 9 has several holes with lakes/ponds and streams. Knowing where they are will be helpful next time. Greems were even, sand traps were mudding as we've had a lot of rain. Back nine was more scenic. Definitely coming back
Pharty Puttz
I actually have never played the course, but after having read the previous reviews I set a teetime for tomorrow. I’m so excited!!
Nice but SLOW
8 Korean women in 4 carts playing together in front of us. Not sure how this happened. Had to call the Marshall to come split them up. Even so, pace was very slow... over 5 hours. Greens were VERY slow as well. No matter how hard you hit the putt, it came up well short. Otherwise course was in great shape. So glad they cut down the big tree at the bottom of the hill on 16 I think.
Château Élan Stay & Play Golf Package
This review has a few semi valid points.
That said, if barking dogs and blowing leaves bothers you maybe tennis is your game.
I played last week and the course is in the best shape I've seen it in at least 10 years, maybe longer.
