Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club
About
Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club is situated in the heart of South Hall County. The course sprawls across 150 acres of rolling countryside with natural wetlands comprising 19 of those acres. The golf course has a traditional Scottish links design that also incorporates a few mountain holes. It's a layout that will always keep you guessing. It may not be the most formidable golf course in the area, but it shouldn't be underestimated either. The course strikes a good balance between being forgiving enough for high handicappers and challenging enough for more advanced players. The par 3s are tough and the diverse par 4s come in all shapes and sizes. Royal Lakes Golf & C.C. is a shot maker's layout that requires accuracy and thoughtful strategy. The most memorable hole on the golf course is the par-5 11th, which features an intimidating island green.

Hole 11 Green Photo submitted by baldeagle218 on 05/17/2019
Greens are struggling in the heat
Course is fun as always but the greens are in need of some TLC. Green fees are lower so still a happy customer and will return.
royal lakes
The course is in good shape excluding about 4 greens that obviously suffered damage from fungus. But the good parts putt very well. Would recommend this course especially the backside.
Must Play
Some courses are in good shape, and having nothing wrong with them, but they can be boring. Royal Oaks offers 18 holes that are a challenging pleasure to play.
The fairway traps offer a challenge, and then the shot to get on the greens requires a good shot.
The lakes add a nice plus to the round.
Some greens need attention, and course maintenance is a little lacking---cart paths, etc., not the fairways themselves.
Hard course.
Great course. You have to keep the ball out in front of you. It will eat your lunch.
You shoot from 78 to 80. To have had a great round. Course is always in great shape.
Disappointed
Tee to green course was in great shape. The Greens seemed to have been let go. Large dead spots and they didn't seem to have been cared for.
Royal Lakes
I found the course layout somewhat challenging. Some of the greens were not in very good shape, with large brown spots on several. Staff was very friendly and helpful, the driving range was good as well as the putting green. I would play again, probably in the fall.
Great course; good pace
Course is well-designed with enough bunkers and hazards to provide a challenge for more advanced golfers, but very playable for beginners and high-handicappers. Greens in good shape for peak of summer heat; not too fast; fairways green and rolling well.
Staff Friendly/Course Great
Reno and his staff were really friendly and everything was great. My only complaint is they won't let you take the cart to your car to load and unload your clubs. This is a hassle. I felt rushed to unload my cart and sort of ruined the great day.
Royal Lakes Review
Great track in great shape with the exception of 2 greens on the back nine that were in rough shape...
Great, friendly staff, including Luke in Pro Shop and Alex Miller on the beer, bloody Mary Cart...
Love this course!
One of the great tracks in No GA, not one you'd get tired of playing. Wish it was closer for some of the guys I play with, we'd play it every week.
Poor Course Conditions
Royal Lakes is an excellent layout that is not being maintained. I have previously played Royal Lakes when the greens were some of the best in the area. However, the greens and bunkers have degraded to the point of barely playable. The greens are not smooth and very slow. Some greens have many large dead or bare areas. The bunkers do not appear to be receiving any regular maintenance. I cannot recommend this course when in this condition.
Play anyway
Had read about greens condition & there were some problems, primarily on the back nine. I would still go back & play after seeing the greens, hopefully they'll get fixed. Rest of course in good shape. Would not pay full price, got a good deal with the Ideal Golfer website. Also pace of play started a little slow but group in front of us let us play through which improved pace of play. Would play again & recommend
Played 6/23
I read several reviews before booking my tee time and have to say they were very accurate! Went to check in and the male staff member behind the counter looked at me and said "what?". Really! First impression.. no customer service! Had a 1:10 tee time, was on the range with my buddy and at 12:47 we were rushed to the first tee by the course starter- no reason given. We didn't finish our warm up and needless to say couldn't practice putting. Course layout is amazing! Several greens on the back 9 have major issues and with very slow greens already, this doesn't help. Fairway bunkers had clay dirt in them but greenside bunkers were normal. We were paired with 2 other people but they put a twosome behind us which they had to wait every shot so I gave pace of play a lower rating. Also had several random people in carts not golfing pass us on several holes which was odd. For being a "country club" it lacks the consistent course maintenance and customer service if you want people to join or come back and play. Course is marked well. Not worth paying more than $30 to play in its current condition and staff
Greens In Horrendous Shape in June?
I've played Royal Lakes a few times in the past, and it's always been an average experience, which is fine since it's close to my father's house for a spur of the moment round.
My 1st time there in 2 years, and I have to say, I don't think I'll go back. The majority of the greens, especially those on the back 9, were full of dark brown bald spots. It was like putting on the surface of the moon. The greens has not yet been punched for the season, and they were unbelievably slow. I could not convince myself to swing hard enough to get half the putts to the hole. Never really seen anything like it. Granted, I love lightning quick greens, but this was like living room carpet.
The general condition of the fairways, bunkers (3 complete plugs) and rough have deteriorated to the point of looking like a municipal course.
I took lots of photos of the greens to post here, but it seems I can't do that. What a shame. It would be great to show people pictures of reality.
GREAT Comment about not being able to take your cart to the parking lot. It is a HUGE hassle to not be able to take your cart and unload your clubs in your own vehicle.
