Jekyll Island Golf Club - Indian Mound Course
About
Jekyll Island Golf Club is Georgia's largest public golf facility, offering three 18-hole courses and a nine-hole course. Two of the 18-hole courses, Pine Lakes and Indian Mound, have similar characteristics since they sit side by side. Both are younger than the Oleander, which is considered the toughest of the three and served as host to the Georgia Open for four years. The Indian Mound Course is the shortest of the three at just under 6,500 yards from the back tees but that is not to say you won't run into a fair amount of challenges. The layout features lengthy par 5s that you wouldn't expect given the yardage, and the par 4s offer scoring opportunities for those who take advantage of the short shots into the green. The Indian Mound Course's main challenges are the undulating greens and abundance of sand.

Nice layout
I've always liked this layout - many different looks and shots on just about all holes. tees and fairways are dormant but playable. Greens are ok but could be better with better management.
Slow play. No carts available for an hour
No carts available for an hour after our tee time.
Island Mound Golf course was horrendous.
This is probably the worst conditioned course I had EVER played. Sparse to no grass on fairways. Unraked bunkers. Looks like no one has done any maintenance to the course. Greens awful and painted green to cover up patches. Was i disinterested from the second hole onward. Luckily the Marshall came by on the 7th hole and when i spoke my displeasure he moved us to the Pine Lakes course which was fantastic. Fast perfect greens. Lush fairways. Good sand. After the round they said they were closing Indian Mound to redo it. It badly needs it. Avoid it all all costs.
Always fun to play Jekyll
Don’t be unrealistic and expect Augusta National conditions (contrary to what it seems many reviewers expect). Indian Mound’s greens aren’t pristine and may have a few rough spots here and there but they are more than adequate. The fairways and tee boxes are in good shape also. You won’t regret playing here. We always enjoy it when we do.
Nice Course
Course in good shape. Greens are in great shape. I would play it again.
Great layout, greens need help
The course is a classic layout and truly beautiful. Even with brown, dormant grass it was inviting and interesting. Unfortunately the greens and the areas immediately around them were not as inviting. The areas surrounding the greens were soft, almost muddy, and in need of work. This was surprising, as there has been less than normal rainfall of late. The greens themselves were very slow and bumpy, with a lot of bare spots covered with green dye and fertilizer. The chances of a putt rolling straight and true were slim. It was frustrating and took a bit of fun out of the round..
Course condition.
I was very disappointed in the condition of course. The greens were in bad shape. Course could use some work. Tee boxes also need work. The only good thing The price was right. You get what you pay for. The staff was very nice. Hopefully the grounds keepers will get their act together!
Not worth it
Bare/dirt spots in the fairways and greens. Bumpy poa annua and bare spots on greens which are so small the greenside bunkers are no longer greenside. Some fairways/rough were cut but the debris remained as in the picture. Apparently they spend more time on the other courses as the conditions here have declined.
Goat ranch
I was desperate to play Friday and checked out tee times in the app. Indian Mound sounded reasonable in terms of price and tee time. Showed up and when I got to the putting green I noticed it was in poor condition. And it was probably the best green I saw. I was in the first group, so we played fast, and the lay out is nice. It would be worth it after the redo the greens. Supposedly gonna do that when the new course opens. Won’t come back until they fix the issue and that won’t be for more than a year. They could lower the green fees from $75 but they haven’t.
Greens are terrible.
The greens on this course are terrible. Perhaps the worst I've ever played. One of their other courses is being renovated and another recently so. I have to assume this one is on the list. Just know coming in what to expect or ask when you make your reservations.
