About

Type Resort

Rating 71.8

Jekyll Island Golf Club offers 64 holes of golf, making it the largest public golf facility in Georgia. The courses are a favorite amongst locals and visitors since it's hard to beat the affordable rates. The club features three 18-hole courses and one nine-hole course. Pine Lakes is the longest of the three full-length courses at 6,700 yards from the back tees, though the course is not lengthy by any means. The final hole is the only one on the course with considerable length. The original layout was created in 1968 and underwent a major renovation in 2002. It is similar to the Indian Mound Course, which sits adjacent to it, but Pine Lakes has a more modern bunkering system. Fairway bunkers come into play for long hitters and the bunkers that frame the greens demand accurate approach shots.

Variety!

As someone who used to play the USKG event, it's great to see Pine Lakes still hosting tournaments and in good condition! The variety from one hole to the next is refreshing for coastal golf. Greens coming together nicely. Good job Jekyll!

Winter golf

Great course. Winter conditions a bit tough. Fairways are cut really short in winter. Greens smoking fast but in good shape. Long par 4’s but doable and alot of fun.

Good vakue

Course is pretty wide open but lots of bunkers protecting greens and strategically placed in fairways. Conditions were very good and staff was friendly. Decent value for the money and would come back next time we’re in the area.

Dissapointing Staff

Let me start by saying...We absolutely loved Jekyll Island — it’s truly one of Georgia’s gems. Everywhere else on the island, from the restaurants and shops to the shrimp and grits festival, the hospitality and organization was beyond exceptional. Every interaction we had made us feel welcome and reminded us why we love visiting.

That’s why our experience at Jekyll Golf Club was such a disappointment. The course itself is stunning — beautifully designed, well-kept, and full of character. It’s easily one of the most enjoyable layouts we’ve played, and we travel to different courses across Georgia and Alabama nearly every weekend.

Unfortunately, the customer service we encountered didn’t reflect the same quality. The older gentleman working in the pro shop that day was unexpectedly rude and dismissive, which set a negative tone for the round and really stood out against the otherwise warm hospitality found everywhere else on the island.

The round starting great, The starter at the first tee box gave us good directions and let us know we had no one in front of us and to enjoy our round. We did'nt see anyone but wildlife until hole 11. (1 hour and 35 minutes in) Once we got on hole 11, 3 carts full of teens, 6 total people- 2 golf bags were hacking up the fairway. Hitting several balls each, trading clubs and you could obviously see they were disrespecting the course. After waiting more than 15 minutes and having another group behind us waiting we called the club house to let them know to send a marshal or worker out to speed them up and handle the situation. Mind you the carts are GPS and they should be able to alert the monitors and speed the group in front of us up. The older gentleman on the phone was very rude and stated "what the h*ll you want me to do about it? I'm the only one here, there's nothing I can do". After this unresolved conversation and the shock of the rudeness, We let the group behind us go around and gave them another 15 minutes head way because we knew they would have to wait as well on the next hole. We returned to the club house after it took over 3 hours hours to finish the back 9. It was 530pm and there were 4 employees (obviously more than 1 single employee) hanging out on unused carts as well as the older gentleman in a collared shirt outside the club house. We loaded up the car and drove the cart to use the restroom. When we came out to drive the cart over to return it, it was gone. One of the employees walked over and took it with our score card and phone. We had to walk around the building to reclaim our belongings. Granted we were not the last ones on the course several groups were behind us. To feel rushed at 530pm, after we were held up by groups that we asked to be resolved was very disappointing. The course closes at 6pm and there was no way the groups behind us finished in a timely manner. We noticed the group we let go around gave up after the 13th hole and left. To pay that sort of money and not be able to enjoy what you paid for is ridiculous.

It’s disappointing, because with a team that matched the level of care seen across the rest of Jekyll Island, this course could easily rank among the best golf experiences in the Southeast. We truly hope management takes this feedback to heart, because the course and the island both deserve better representation at the front counter.

Improved since a 2024 renovation

Pine Lakes is looking great after a multi-million-dollar renovation by Clyde Johnston completed last year. It was in great condition and the course continues to be a wonderful golf bargain in a sublime natural setting. Golfers will see all sorts of gators, birds, deer and other wildlife. The routing is a bit straight forward with few risk-reward moments. It's just solid golf, nothing too fancy about it. The back nine does toss in a few doglegs to make things more interesting. Two different ponds come into play on the left of the par-4 ninth and the right side of the brutal par-4 18th to keep players honest.
