Jekyll Island Golf Club - Pine Lakes Course
About
Jekyll Island Golf Club offers 64 holes of golf, making it the largest public golf facility in Georgia. The courses are a favorite amongst locals and visitors since it's hard to beat the affordable rates. The club features three 18-hole courses and one nine-hole course. Pine Lakes is the longest of the three full-length courses at 6,700 yards from the back tees, though the course is not lengthy by any means. The final hole is the only one on the course with considerable length. The original layout was created in 1968 and underwent a major renovation in 2002. It is similar to the Indian Mound Course, which sits adjacent to it, but Pine Lakes has a more modern bunkering system. Fairway bunkers come into play for long hitters and the bunkers that frame the greens demand accurate approach shots.

Needs maturation
Facility is under construction with complete renovation of adjoining Oleander/Historic 9 hole Jekyll Island course compilation. The smell of burning brush was evident. This course was newly renovated and the fairways and surrounds have not yet grown in. Any green missed means chipping or pitching off hardpan or dirt or sandy grung with wispy native grass. . . yuck. So, your answer comes back, ‘don’t miss so many greens.’ The problem is the greens are too firm to hold anything more than a 9 iron coming in. They just need some more time and irrigation to soften a bit. Like maybe a year. My advice is to play a bump and run although with the sandy surroundis, that too will be a game of chance.
Newly reconstructed
The greens are all new and now perfect and quick. Sand traps have new loose sand. Fairways and tee boxes are in winter considtions (1.!6.25) but should be nice come spring. Does not appear that any changes were made to green size or slopes, fairway dimensions or undulations or trap sizes or depth. My concern is that the historic under funding of the maintenance for the course will continue. That would be unfortunate.
Great renovations!
First time playing since the renovation - everything has improved. Greens are fast and firm, the revised bunkers are in great shape. Although it was cart path only, we maintained pace. Can’t wait to play it again!
Pine Lakes
Fairways and greens were excellent. Only negative is cart path only for several more months to allow the new sod to take hold. Will wait till carts are allowed before playing again.
Really Good day on a Good course
Rate a 4.5 if available. Course has just reopened & in really good shape, tees to greens, even sand traps. Rough is penalizing. Greens in great shape. After fairways fill in & matures it will become really nice. Played on cloudy day, pace of play excellent. Prefer a lower green fee but being a resort course, probably not happening. Highly recommend especially if you can a good deal
Fun course to play
Layout of the course is not terribly challenging but fun. A tee box for every level of player. Fairways were wet with sparse grass cover. Greens were fine, in good shape and seemed fast. Staff was friendly and welcoming.
Green
The greens are being infiltrated with some wee or some grass that needs to be addressed by the grounds crew.
Greens
The overall course conditions were good but some greens have been infiltrated with some sort of weed or grass that needs to be irradiated.
Good resort course
Pace of play was abysmal on the front, but my partner and I were able to play through 2 groups at the turn and buzz through the back. Ranger would have been helpful. Greens were ok, consistent and relatively smooth. Nobody fixes ball marks. Plenty of sand in the bunkers, and I was paired with a great guy; made a new friend.
Needs Course Management
We were early for our tee time and were at the starters shack about 7 or 8 minutes ahead of our tee time. Starter was a unhappy person who barely spoke Stike one. He informed us we were behind the group over there and pointed. There was a group of 7 waiting ahead of us, a group of four on the tee and another threesome on the fairway. I guess we all had the same tee time, Strike two. The group ahead of us hit multiple balls, multiple times searched for their gold encrusted balls for hours, no marshalls in site. We finished our round in 5 hours 45 minutes Strike three. Never coming back.
Wet!
I’m no grounds keeper but the fairways were very wet and not much turf.
I understand keeping the course watered under extreme heat but it was in the 70’s this week.
With the threat of rain all week.
Almost like they’ve been over played.
The greens were in great shape!
I always enjoy playing on Jekyll Island, it’s beautiful.
Great course and very peaceful
This course is very peaceful even with people behind you the way it’s laid out you do not feel rushed.
