Collins Hill Golf Club
About
Collins Hills Golf Club is a little known course to outsiders, but it is a local favorite. The traditional parkland layout tumbles across a rolling terrain. The golf course features small, undulating greens and narrows fairways bordered by towering trees. The layout demands accuracy especially with the numerous sand bunkers that have been incorporated into the design. Several ponds and lakes are scattered across the course, coming into play on seven holes. The layout has its challenges but it is still gentle enough to accommodate a variety of different skill levels. Before playing, golfers can warm up on the driving range or utilize the other practice facilities. Collins Hills Golf Club's atmosphere definitely plays a role in the club's popularity, offering all of the amenities of a private club with a casual and friendly setting

Hole #11. If you do not have a good drive, you may have to lay up in front of the pond. Photo submitted by Sean4356667 on 03/04/2013
Course under renovation
This is a reasonably challenging course. The second hole is under construction and had places (not seen) from the tee box that can eat your ball. There were also a few holes with a bit of drainage issues.
The play slowed down considerably around hole 8 and even though a marshal appeared it did not it improve until hole 18. I did not appreciate the slowness. There were at least two groups backed up at the tee box.
Overall it is a good course. It is undergoing changes due to management change. I am hopeful that the current issues will be fixed in short order (2 months).
Ok for the price, poor staff
After some car issues, I walk into the clubhouse ready to go right at my tee time. The old man gives me grief and then takes literally 8 minutes to check me and my buddy out. We get to the tee box and the ranger has no clue what he is doing. After we (and the other two-some he decided to pair us up with) tee-off, we get told by the guys ahead of us that someones tee shot hit one of them in the foot since the ranger had no clue what he was doing. After that, the groups spaced out pretty well and it was better. The course is incredibly unforgiving. You miss a put on one hole and it literally can end up 30 yards away from the TEE BOX. I love a challenge but when it is impossible to keep a ball on the green because the slope is so much that is ridiculous.
The greens on this course were very good!
Overall, this is a best kept secret course. I've not played here in over 5 years, but I can clearly see that I've been missing out on some great golf. The greens are in excellent shape and for the most part, the fairways are really great as well. With the exception of hole #2, the course is in great shape! I'll definitely play here again....soon!!
Tough course!!
This course had narrow fairways and fast greens. It required good shot making or you could get a big number.
This course is on it's way up
This course is gradually being improved. They have made big strides over the last several years. I noticed on this outing they have cleared alot of the brush on the back nine. This has helped with finding your ball on errant shots. The course has markers on the fairway now, showing 200, 150, 100. I noticed on hole #2 they are in the process of fixing some of the uneven terrain. The course can be challenging at times. The driving range is in need of improvments. Last time I used it, there wasn't any yardage markers. It would be nice if they would make small greens at different distances like other courses have at their driving range.
The course was in very good condition, overall fun to play.
Most of the holes play very fair, however, hole number 11 is
very difficult for the average golfer due to it's length and layout.
The fairway is very tight due to being tree lined and for about
2/5 of it's length slopes very hard left to right. Only a near perfect long drive will find a flat area for the second approach
shot. Also, hole number 17 has a very small landing area from where a reasonabe second shot can be made. There is very
little opening between the trees for a clear second shot. I believe
that some significant tree trimming would make both of these
holes more playable.
This course has a good layout with 1 par 3 challenging green in particular
The cart path is absolutely terrible. There are places where it is torn up and if not careful could hurt your back if you go to fast
The coarse was a good deal ay 14.00 I wouuld of liked better grass to hit off of and the greens were like glass really fast.
For the money an alright coarse at $14.00 It probably plays better in the spring with the grass green and not dormant. A couple of holes had ground being repaired so you had to deal with that also.
Lots of improvement
The course is shaping up very nicely with the new Management team. There are significant changes to the fairways that open up the course. It's challenging and fun. Great value!
Good Value
Fun course. Challenging yet playable. Have had issues in the past with very unfriendly staff but today no such problem. $12 for a bucket of balls is pretty ridiculous to me as well.
Difficult and Challenging layout with many elevation changes.
Since I played in mid-winter the conditons were as expected.
The greens were extremely fast and the fairways were hard
and also fast. I Iiked the challenge the course presented and
look forward to playing it again in the late spring.
Greens offer a nice challenge
The first time i played this course i was not sure about the blind tee shots that you have to navigate on some of the holes. But after playing the course a second time i found that they are very forgiving which was nice. The greens roll true with some tricky breaks. alot of fun.
Starter had a terrible attitude
Course was under construction it is old and the houses around the course were not kept up or yards clean. The starter acted like he was doing us a favor for being there. He was disrespectful and acted as if we were a huge inconvenience.
Very rough ride in cart. Paths require serious attention.
Decent value for price paid. I never play my normal scores at this course. I think it is because of the layout of elevations.
Looking for value? This is your place.
I was looking for a place to play in the late afternoon and Collins Hill offered the best value. I was able to get in 18 holes in less than 3 hours. Overall the course needs improvements to the fairways and greens. There were a lot of bare spots in the fairways. The greens were ok for this time of year. Looks like they were just spray painted recently. Dont try to hold a drink while driving the cart, as the cart path is very bumpy and rough.
This is a fairly short course. I played the tips and remember only pulling out the driver a handful of times, but was still challenging. It is very hard to get a flat lie, as most holes are on some sort of slope or hill, ball placement is key.
bad experience at Collins hill
The course was completely over booked. We had to wait almost an hour after our tee time before we could tee off. Staff was not helpful at all. Definitely will not go back again. And on top of that we didn't get the full round in. It took almost 4 hours to play 9 holes. Overall experience was not good at all
Lots of hills and dales, twists and turns and small and very fast greens made for a really fun golfing experience I plan to do again very soon.
This is an older and shorter course design, approximately 6200 yards from the back tees, par 71, with small sloped and undulated greens, that can be very fast. Down hill and side hill putts (and chips), are particularly challenging. The course is built on several small hills, mostly tree lined, with a few creeks, water hazards and doglegs here and there. The fairway and rough grass is presently dormant, so you need to pay attention to the slopes of the landing areas because the ball tends to keep rolling down the hill. There are a few side hill type of holes that played particularly tight where you had to hug the trees on the high side so the ball wouldn't keep rolling down hill into the hazard on the low side. A really fun old school round of golf I plan to duplicate very soon.
Good and challenging cheap course
Slow play on weekend morning with lots of people playing. Afternoon is dead, so start a little later and enjoy a better and quicker round. Good course that makes you think about every shot. Some friends hate the crazy slopes on some fairways that turn a good shot into a fairway miss after it rolls down 50 yards across. Large water comes into play in some holes to keep you honest. A lot of holes are near each other so you need to be caution of miss hits. Nice practice green and ship area with sand. Think a better kept city/county course. Older design but still nice layout. Friendly beer lady knows the course well and can help you out with ideas and a cold one. Cheap lunch turkey hoagie is good on the turn.
Perfect greens
Awesome day for golf. 70 degrees in January so I was not going to pass it up. Greens were green and rolled true. Had a great time.
