Collins Hill Golf Club
About
Collins Hills Golf Club is a little known course to outsiders, but it is a local favorite. The traditional parkland layout tumbles across a rolling terrain. The golf course features small, undulating greens and narrows fairways bordered by towering trees. The layout demands accuracy especially with the numerous sand bunkers that have been incorporated into the design. Several ponds and lakes are scattered across the course, coming into play on seven holes. The layout has its challenges but it is still gentle enough to accommodate a variety of different skill levels. Before playing, golfers can warm up on the driving range or utilize the other practice facilities. Collins Hills Golf Club's atmosphere definitely plays a role in the club's popularity, offering all of the amenities of a private club with a casual and friendly setting

Hole #11. If you do not have a good drive, you may have to lay up in front of the pond. Photo submitted by Sean4356667 on 03/04/2013
Course is great and I have played before. Challenging, narrow and up and down.
Too may bookings for this particular day. Course personnel were over whelmed and unable to handle properly. Had too wait one hour for a cart and by the time we did get one we had to go to the tee and were unable to hit the bucket of balls we had purchased.
Interesting track
Played on a weekday afternoon and course had plenty of folks on it but moved quickly. Bermuda was dormant everywhere, so greens and fairways were quite fast. Lots of trees and lots of sloping terrain, but not many hazards otherwise. Definitely some penalty for spraying the ball... Considering time or year, no complaints on course condition and maintenance staff was actively out blowing leaves off the greens and fairways during the round. Would definitely play again, but the place does look like it could get backed up on a busy weekend.
Beautiful course and cheap price
The course was in perfect condition and was a lot of fun to play. It was my first round there, so like any first round, I had to figure out how to play it. There was no map on the scorecard, so I did a little hunting and guessing. I will definitely be going back again!
Gwinnett County's Best Value
The Collins Hill course condition has greatly improved over the last year. Greens are smooth and very firm. Most fairways are also in good condition. Bunkers are reasonably groomed. Limited effort to keep the leaves cleared off the course.
Holes 11 and 17 have been neglected to the point where rehab is needed. 11 is practically unplayable when the leaves have not been cleared. The 17th fairway is so hard that any reasonable drive on this par 5 will likely come to rest in the rough. Areas a few feet into the rough on 17 are completely unplayable due to rocks and washouts.
Good practice areas for putting and chipping. The driving range has improved, but still is needs some TLC.
The cart paths need a complete overhaul.
Even with a few warts the course is worth the sub $30 fee with a cart.
Amazing greens, several hokey holes.
Cart paths and fairways need some work, but a great value and fun greens.
Nice layout!
The course is a challenge in that if you miss the fairway you usually can't recover meaning that you will have to take a penalty drop in most cases. The course layout is real nice and has several blind shots, a few PW par 3's and a couple of lofted tee boxes and a few real dog legs. Rough is a little more forgiving in the Fall season. Enjoyed my round.
Greens are very fast and hard to hold.
The course has fairly narrow fairways on many holes and requires good ball placement. The greens were hard and very fast. The check in man seemed a little upset I was an hour early and told me to come back 20 minutes before my tee time.
Don't pay more than $20
Course is in a good locaiton. I don't care for the layout. Greens need work. Several holes had fall trees and limbs. Staff is nice. Lots of geese wondering around.
Not a bad course but expect a long round.
Overall, this course isn't that bad. It can take a while for one round because there are a lot of blind shots so it's hard to tell if the coast is clear ahead. The course condition is not excellent but it isn't poor as long as you keep in the fairway. Greens are in great condition and are quite fast. The rough can tend to be nonexistent and there are quite a few dry patches. The cart path is a pretty beat up from tree roots but can be avoided. Not a bad course, but with a little bit of work, it can be turned into a great course.
My 2nd visit to Collins Hill
I really liked my first visit, which is why I came back. Well, this time wasn't as great as the first, that's for sure. I commented on how nice the pace of play was last time. I guess the difference between Sunday at 1 and Saturday at 1 is that the Saturday round will take 2 - 3 hours longer. Time par is my number one sticking point. Nothing else on the course, regardless of the shape it's in, should dictate the pace of play. This course isn't the only offender, but their ranger needs to get out and do his job, which includes more than just sitting at the number one tee checking for receipts. When I see the cart girl 6 times in 9 holes, and see the ranger 0 times, there is a problem, not to mention making absolutely no effort to put people in foursomes. You're letting the inmates run the jail....the inmates in front of us decided to have a child with them that wasn't concerned about other groups of players on the course except his father's. Nope he'd just jerk around in the bunkers and then rake them like a toddler would and then slowly follow his father off the hole they just finished. For me, trying to cobble a game together when I have to wait an extra 15 minutes per shot is not how I want to spend my afternoon. My first experience was great....I guess I'll just have to come out here only when the Falcons are playing.
This course has potential, but needs some work.
We play this course when we don't feel like driving much of a distance. We lucked out on this game, when we checked in we didn't have one of the rude guys checking us in. We got a basket of balls and hit the driving range. Finished up there and we were able to get on the course a few minutes early. First hole was the same as every other time we play this course, lose the first ball and then hit a decent shot. Everything was playing great until the 4th hole, where we had to wait for about 20 minutes, as the 4-some 3 or 4 groups ahead of us were obviously playing tees that they should not have been playing, and backing everyone up. I wish that someone from the golf course could have been keeping track of play time, but, this after all is Collins Hill.
The course is pretty narrow and has a couple of water hazards (which we occasionally find), but there is also a lot of nature/forest which allows us to see occasional deer and wild turkeys.
The cart paths absolutely need some help, and the course would have better appeal if the piles of storm debris (downed trees) were removed.
Will we play here again, most definitely, as it is minutes from home, would we play here if there was a course closer to us, probably not. Would I recommend to a friend, I would probably recommend somewhere else first.
Great Green!
1st time at Collins Hill...The green condition was great...but one minus is that the poor tee time managements....
This course is being well maintained
Decent course it offers different challenges to players at all levels in my opinion.
This course needs better maintenance.
Car paths are too rough. It may cause the back pain while you drive the cart.
Best bang for the buck in the area
The new ownership has done a great job with this place. The greens are awesome and the course plays pretty fast. It is my go to course for a quick, affordable round.
great value and very nice staff!
i know this survey is from the 26th of September. i also played today! i invited a friend his only complaint was the grass was a little high and great shots were lost! other than that i play the course 2-3 times a week!
Great Course for the Money
Not long by anyone's measure but this course is challenging. There are a lot of narrow fairways lined by heavy trees and brush, thick and deep rough around the greens, and small to medium size greens. There a couple of elevated tee shot holes that are really scenic. Greens are in good shape but just a little on the slow side for my taste. All in all, this place is a bargain compared to other courses in North Atlanta.
Love the course and looking forward too playing it again
An excellent course for the price! Each hole is a challenge and we got excited and really looked forward too the next tee.
Reasonable Municipal Track
Collins Hills GC has improved greatly in the last year or so. Greens are firm and reasonably smooth. Most fairways are well maintained. The condition off the fairways can be poor. Cart paths and surrounding areas are in very poor condition. The staff is attentive, but a bit disorganized. This is better than most municipal courses where there is very little staff to help manage play.
