Providence Club
About
Conveniently situated between Athens and Lawrenceville, the Providence Club has a scenic location stretching right along the Appalachee River that makes it feel much more like a getaway. The golf course has been considered one of northeast Georgia's best since opening in 1998. The layout takes advantage of the rolling terrain, incorporating elevated tees and uneven lies. The greens often feature slopes and undulations but they are fair and they roll true. They are also known for being excellently maintained. Mature trees frame many of the holes and there are several strategically placed bunkers lurking throughout. Water doesn't come into play too often but the elevation changes will provide plenty of challenges. The golf course is player friendly enough to accommodate a wide range of skill levels with a few tricky holes to keep the round interesting.

Great Course
The course is well maintained and in very good condition. Good lay out and easy to get around.
Bring Your Best Putting Touch
The course was in great shape from tee to greens. The course layout is very good and very challenging, but you can score if you solve the greens. They are very fast, and when it looks like the ball should break, it often doesn't! Had a great round and looking forward to playing it again!
Great Course and Value
Played this course over the weekend and as alwyas the saff is very friendly and helpful. The course is always in great shape. I would reccomend this course to all who like a good challange and enjoy the game
Nice course for the noney
Enjoyed play the courses, staff was unhelpful for a first time player, I suggest not getting a bucket of range balls as the range is a joke. Pace of play was good on the front 9 and slowed some on the back. Overall not a bad place to play but don't expect a four star course.
1st Time - Pleased
It was my first time to play Providence. The course was in good shape. Staff was friendly. Pace of play was good.
Call ahead before booking - 2 many (5 somes) or Tournement...
The club house has improved - after a much needed improvement. - I have always enjoyed the course - not far from the house...
The last couple times booking for a round of golf - I find out after the booking - the course is over booked - 3 groups with - not 4 somes - but 5 some !!! - ended up skipping 5 holes just to be able to finish my round before dark!!!
Yesterday was the worst ever!!! - The course had a church fundraiser - and a tournement with probably 30 carts taking up the course - again I ended up skipping - only 4 holes - just to get my round in before dark. - nothing against the church outing or tournement - I would think the course would not be allowed to advertise on Golf Now from the time of a tornement until finished - the say should be addressed in allowing 5 some and groups hold up other golfers - I know the course does not care as long as they make there money. I will not be back againg without checking on how much bookings and time delays they have on the course. or I will ask for my money back - I'm not skipping another 4 or 5 holes because the course is not managed propperly for all golfers. Bear Creek golf course - 10 minutes away had a tournement and did not have any tee time avaiable untill after 3pm on golf now - I called and checked and said the tournement would not be done until 2 / 3 PM... - Thats how you take care of Customer !!!!
Nice Layout
The fairways were fast, and the first cut was fairly thick. The greens were lighting fast. A fairly challenging course. Good pace of play, friendly staff and beautiful weather made for a great round of golf,
Worth the drive
I had been wanting to try this course for a while and really enjoyed it. The weather was not great, but the course was in good shape and I really enjoyed the layout.
Good round, only minor complaints
First the bad: The driving range is small, mats only (at least on this day - a Saturday), no drivers allowed (250 max distance), and the range balls average or below average, plus. they were ALL GONE. Staff tried to accommodate by throwing together two mostly-full "small" buckets out of the 3 purchased. Nobody seemed to think this fell short of what should have occurred. Greens were not slow, but definitely not fast either. They seemed to roll true most of the time but occasionally had some hops and wobbles in putts due to what appeared to be sports still recovering from the last aeration.
The good: The pace of play was very good for a Saturday - our 4-some played in 4 hours 10 minutes. It was not until the last couple of holes where we had to wait just a minute on the group ahead of us. That is a nice pace for a weekend on an Atlanta-area course. Fairways were in pretty good shape - occasional spots of thin grass but nothing too bad. Only hit one bunker but the sand was good and all the traps I saw seemed to be well cared for. Overall it was a good experience. A little more time for the greens to heal and the fairways grass to fill in and the course will be in perfect shape.
DIsappoitment
Highly rated and recommended. Apparently the players who play this course only play Winder and Cedar Lake. I have had better lies in my back yard, than in the middle of this course's fairway. Yardage markers were non-existent, hidden, or incorrect. If you are going to color coordinate flags with positioning on the green, be consistent.
The course was in good shape. Par for the course. Today's conversation centered around the epic poor business model employed by Golfnow. We are a group of loyal users of the program but are frankly getting tired of Golfnow's poor treatment of its existing members. The recent policy change requiring a reservation three days in advance to use a promo code might be the last straw. Golfnow fails to grasp that a rewards program should foster good will and actually reward members as opposed to trying to grow its bottom line.
Providence club golf course
Very impressed with this course. Friendly staff, course in good condition, good rate of play. Course is challenging but very doable for the average golfer. Definitely one of my new favorites.
Excellent
Great experience, especially for the money. The course is set up well and the staff is excellent. The playing conditions were fantastic.
Better Courses For The Money
Providence Club has no distinguishing attributes. The layout is good with greens in slightly above average condition. Other aspects of the course and club are slightly below average. Service level at this golf club is below average. We enjoyed our round and I would have considered it a reasonable value at $35.00. Note: I rate golf courses on an absolute scale using the following guidelines:
5 stars - Top tier golf course, all amenities, outstanding service/management and excellent course maintenance.
4 stars - Good to great course layout, complete club experience (full practice facilities, locker room, grill, etc...), efficient service/management, very good course maintenance.
3 stars - Good course layout, average practice facilities, average service/management, average course maintenance. No pace of play problems.
2 stars - Nothing special, but an enjoyable course to play. Only minor issues with pace of play.
1 star - Not worth the effort or serious pace of play issues. I take pace of play very seriously.
A 5-hour round is a minimum two-star reduction.
