Bacon Park's greens were still recovering in August 2018, but they have plenty of interesting contours. This is the 15th. Photo submitted by TimGavrichGP on 11/07/2018
Putting in Sand
I have a real love/hate relationship with this course. It's normally very affordable, one of the closest to where I live, and there are typically tee times available when I want to play. Unfortunately the last time we played, we were not notified that the greens were all under construction. The greens had more sand than the bunkers. I get it. Greens need regular maintenance. More than understandable, but can I get a couple bucks off the tee time? Maybe a free hot dog at the turn? Nope. Speaking of the turn, if you do want said hotdog or a cold bev after 9, you get to trek clear across the course to get back to the clubhouse where every other golfer is going to wonder what the heck you're doing. Not to mention when you get back to the tenth, you have to convince the group you're jumping in front of that you just left the clubhouse at the "turn". Staff is old school, doesn't give a hoot about you or your tee time if you're not a regular or a member. I will continue to play here solely because of price and proximity, but big O.C. could put a lil more effort into this place to say the least.
Bacon park sucks
Plugged and sanded greens ( which course failed to notify golf now). Atrocious condition, slow play and overall rude employees. OC Welch needs to come visit his nightmare of a golf course.
For the money not bad but needs some TLC
Donald Ross would not be pleased with the conditions of this course. The greens were terrible. Fairways were inconsistent. For the money I guess you can’t expect much.
Stop letting walkers play on weekends and holidays. Having time to play 18. Hold s is over 5 hours
Walkers
Took 5 hours to play the course. We had one Walker in front of us with two with a cart in front of them was four walkers. They shouldn't allow walkers on weekends or busy days
I was surprised to see goats by the driving range, nice !
Worst conditions of any golf course I have played
This course should not even be in business. Poor at best conditions . Will not ever go back. Greens were just dirt.
Donald Ross would’ve disappointed
Donald Ross would be disappointed to have his name attached to this GOAT TRACK. I actually saw Goats on property! This place is just milking in the money. Poor excuse for public golf. Savannah public golf is already trash, this place doesn’t help at all. Won’t ever play here again. Played for the first time during winter golf, thought i’d give it another shot…bad decision. Even in the middle of growing season no grass on the greens. No difference between rough and fairway. Just POOR.
Great warm-up course!
My wife and I selected this course because of price and how close it was to where we were staying. We enjoyed the course lay-out. The sand traps and water hazards were there but not too difficult manage. Next year is their 100 year anniversary and the pro shop staff pointed out they are selling a wooden putter to mark the milestone. Of course there will be tournaments , merchendise and other events planned but I thought the wooden putter would be a cool addition to anyone’s golf collection.
Just needs work
Course is fun, layout is fun, jsut the course needs a little work and it’ll be great
Pace of play
The pace of play was so slow, I actually thought the 4 some had died on every green….
Waste of money and time
There is nothing positive to say about this course. It is a muddy goat track that is so overbooked that at any moment in the front nine, there would be 3-4 groups visible on upcoming holes. The greens were atrocious, beat up, rock hard, and an abolishes guessing game on what the speed was going to be on every green. No consistency, no care from the staff, and not a single redeeming quality about this course. It used to be actually playable, never in great shape, but playable. Now, it is just a green spray painted eyesore in the middle of Savannah. This will be the last time I play this course, no matter how desperate to play a round I get.
terrible experience
First, upon walking out of the clubhouse you see what they called a putting green that looked like a rough on the fairways NO Grass and someone put two hole flags hat were pounded into this dead area!
Second, all the fairways wmwlyas like hitting off deadpan with very little moisture in the fairways and grass!
Third, the majority of the greens had been sprayed to look like there was green when they were terrible. A lot of the greens had places of sand on them which made putting a joke and making our experience very disappointing
Fourth, 90% of the tee boxed you were hitting off of sand! This course is in need of water, maintenance and attention to fixing up the whole course! I won't be coming back to this lack of maintenance they call a golf course
Really chalkengin
Super hilly. The greens are evil. If u over shoot the ball goes into the revine of despair. Fun course that makes you play your best or throw your clubs in the woods
Overbooking is an issue
This is the third time I have played this course. Each time I have played it, it has been very slow play. The greens were not in very good condition.

Friendly golf course
Great staff! The people working there is top shelf. The condition of the fairways and the greens are poor, needs a lot of
Maintenance.
