Bacon Park's greens were still recovering in August 2018, but they have plenty of interesting contours. This is the 15th. Photo submitted by TimGavrichGP on 11/07/2018
Waste of money and time
There is nothing positive to say about this course. It is a muddy goat track that is so overbooked that at any moment in the front nine, there would be 3-4 groups visible on upcoming holes. The greens were atrocious, beat up, rock hard, and an abolishes guessing game on what the speed was going to be on every green. No consistency, no care from the staff, and not a single redeeming quality about this course. It used to be actually playable, never in great shape, but playable. Now, it is just a green spray painted eyesore in the middle of Savannah. This will be the last time I play this course, no matter how desperate to play a round I get.
terrible experience
First, upon walking out of the clubhouse you see what they called a putting green that looked like a rough on the fairways NO Grass and someone put two hole flags hat were pounded into this dead area!
Second, all the fairways wmwlyas like hitting off deadpan with very little moisture in the fairways and grass!
Third, the majority of the greens had been sprayed to look like there was green when they were terrible. A lot of the greens had places of sand on them which made putting a joke and making our experience very disappointing
Fourth, 90% of the tee boxed you were hitting off of sand! This course is in need of water, maintenance and attention to fixing up the whole course! I won't be coming back to this lack of maintenance they call a golf course
Really chalkengin
Super hilly. The greens are evil. If u over shoot the ball goes into the revine of despair. Fun course that makes you play your best or throw your clubs in the woods
Overbooking is an issue
This is the third time I have played this course. Each time I have played it, it has been very slow play. The greens were not in very good condition.
Friendly golf course
Great staff! The people working there is top shelf. The condition of the fairways and the greens are poor, needs a lot of
Maintenance.
Wonderful Ross Muni
An unexpected find!! This Donald Ross muni has the same layout as when originally designed in 1926, the greens appear to have many typical Ross characteristics, where built up and had plenty of undulation.
The course conditions were not the best; however, the rolling layout, old school greens make up for the conditions.
Worth a trip to play this Ross gem.
Good for amateurs
This course fits my level of expertise. Plays 18 holes 3- 3.5 hours. Love the GPS in carts
Must play historic golf course.
What a fun track!! My wife and I truly enjoyed our found on Thanksgiving Day!! Older shop and club house but that’s ok!! Couple greens needed help but for the price this is a steal. I’m lay this historical course when your in Savannah!! We will be back!!
Better than expected
Played the course last minute. It was a neat old golf course, steeped in history. We were pleasantly surprised with the layout. The greens didn’t look good but rolled true and held really well. A good value for money.
Bacon Park Golf Course
Overall good experience at Bacon Park Golf course, affordable and sortable course. Very fun!
Improved Conditions
Played here in September and the course was greatly improved. Tee boxes and fairways were in nice shape Roughs had been cut back so you could find your errant shots. The greens showed the greatest improvement. They have repaired the bad areas and they are very playable. When the greens fill out they could be really nice. They’ve also cut back and cleared out a lot of the high heavier rough areas. I believe the course may be under new management and it shows. If they continue this course could become nice place to play.
Fun course!
I’ve played bacon park a few times now and this was one of the best. Great layout. Was working well with my driver today.
WOW
The best the greens and course has looked in 10 years. We just played the Savannah City Am at Bacon Park and i was really impressed. They have worked hard on the greens and improvements and it has payed off. This is a PUBLIC Donald Ross course so take it for what it is. I host Jr tournaments and will put Bacon Park back on the rotation after this weekend. Great job.
Avoid at all cost!
Unfortunately the new management regime has decided to let this course fall into total disrepair. Horrible greens, terrible fairways, unplayable bunkers. Hard pass on this goat pasture!
