Remarkable recovery by the course
First time playing..
Given the extent of the flooding from Helene
It was surprisingly dry in most places
Greens were firm
Front nine is short and quirky.. Although 5 and 6 are fun holes
Back nine from 12 to 16 are best holes
Tree lined and tight - 16 is tight par three
17 green was underwater and now playable
Enjoyed the day.. Fairways were a little thin in places but given the weather
Congratulations
First time playing this course. I wasn’t sure what to expect given the varied reviews, but I found the course to be fun and challenging. There are areas where improvements can be made, such as more consistent fairway turf, smoother cart paths and water in the coolers on the course (an easy, inexpensive fix), but I came away with the impression that this course has good bones and just needs time to allow ownership to make improvements. There are some quirky holes, but overall it’s a decent track. I played 19 holes in 2 1/2 hours on weekday afternoon, so that’s always a welcome change. Hopefully, CCG is on its way to better days.
Pleasantly Surprised
I used to golf at this course frequently over the years but former management was not the best in honoring tee times and rates. The course had also gone down hill as for the golf carts, driving range and course condition. I thought I would give it a try again as I received a great rate and course is close to where I live. I did not use the driving range so I could not comment on that but I did use the practice green. The practice green is not in very good shape as it has many weeds and/or poana/crabgrass. I assumed all greens were like this but when I got to the first green, and all other greens, they were all in great shape like they were in the old days. Golf carts seems pretty new. Staff was friendly and helpful. I will definitely coma back and play this course alot in the future. Hopefully the new owner will keep the course open instead of developing the property.
Average public course
The practice range is a sore sight to look at, but it does the job. The mats weren't my favorite. Putting green was very weedy, but it did a great job for learning speed and reading the putt. The greens on the course were in much better condition.
Check in was painful. The bare minimum of looking up my tee time and taking my card. I had to fill my own bucket of balls, and the bin was deep and nearly empty. It was very difficult to fill the basket reaching that far into the bin. Check in staff seemed surprised someone might have questions about the facilities like, "Do you have a water fountain?" Maybe the club has a lot of regular patrons who don't ask questions, but the friendliness and service could use a pep talk.
Course was about average compared to other courses around the area. Very hilly at times which makes a center fairway drive roll off into the woods. The second hole par 5 was designed by a psycho. Any decent drive is straight into the woods, so you're forced to lay up short to the dog leg and then left with a very long approach or another lay up. Even then, your lay up might roll into the woods with the massive hill right around that dog leg. Crazy.
Greens were fast but easy enough to read if you could control your power.
Decent Conditions and Fast Greens!
Country Club of Gwinnett is a fun track. It makes you play course management as you will not be able to take your driver out and bomb away. The conditions are slightly above average as there are some areas that are patchy but the greens are where you get the bang for your buck. The greens are fast and roll true. For $50 it is worth the ride from the Atlanta area. Give it a try.
Great round except!!!!
We had a great round besides the threesome in front of us. They were super slow. Need a Marshall. But the carts have improved and the course is always in decent shape.
worth the money
Well maintained course. it is better shaped than many courses in Johns Creek and Suwanee Ga
Course Conditions
A number of Fairways and green approaches were relatively hard packed ground making it difficult to chip. Overall the greens, particularly on the front nine were in very nice, true roll condition.
Lousy layout. Never again.
I can't believe the nearly 4-start rating for this golf course in the Reviews. I played based on some of the prior comments and self-description by the golf course. "In addition to our well-maintained championship golf course..." The course is nowhere near well-maintained. Tons of bare spots on the fairway edges mostly. Bunkers need more sand. Tee boxes need work. At least the greens were in very good condition. "New management is doing a great job, by investing and upgrading the course." Where? I saw no evidence of upgrading the course. ZERO. "The course itself is well maintained." Again, bologna. And the layout, it is ridiculous for most holes, with there being 3-4 exceptions. "Rolling terrain?" How about just saying "hilly." Lots of uphill shots, lots of downhill lies, lots of sidehill lies, lots of sloping fairways where, with the extremely dry and hard conditions, keeping your ball in the fairway on many holes is a great challenge in and of itself. And when you have par-5's where you can't hit your driver because after 250-260 yards you drop off a hill or get into a hazard? Stupid. I was sorely disappointed. But hey, at least they are spending money on the clubhouse, right?
