Stone Mountain Golf Club sits at the base of one of the Southeast's most popular attractions, Stone Mountain. The club offers two 18-hole courses, Lakemont and Stonemont. The Stonemont Course is the club's original layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones. The gentle hills surrounding the mountain provide the golf course with rolling fairways and greens. The contours are subtle, but they can be deceiving. The classic but tricky layout requires careful strategy and course management in addition to accuracy. The course is routed around the mountain and its accompanying lake, weaving through dense forests of Georgia pine. The layout features narrow fairways, but one of the most challenging features are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout. Since opening in 1969, Stone Mountain's Stonemont Course has hosted numerous events, both local and national.

Unplayable course and WORST GREENS EVER!!!!!!

I was impressed with the clubhouse, bar area, and super friendly and helpful staff. The fairways, layout, and tee boxers are in great shape. The bunkers are pretty nasty but due to the rain the last few days we didn't think too much of it. THE GREENS: The greens are in the worst condition that I have ever seen on any golf course in my life. The greens looked like cheap carpet that was chewed on by a rabid dog. It made the course completely unplayable and unenjoyable. I can't describe to you how bad these greens are and I wish I had taken a picture. If the round was $10 with free parking it would have made more sense.

Also, remember that you will have to pay for Stone Mountain parking ($20-$40),

Greens are terrible

Layout of course was great, staff was very courteous. Restaurant/bar had a good selection and great food. My main reason for rating is the condition of greens on the Stonemount course, front nine were fine but the back looked a nuclear fallout had occurred. Mostly dirt and sand on 7 out of 9 greens. Bunkers/sand traps also in bad shape for a course charging $75-85/round.

I did speak with a member who said they got hit hard with heat damage, completely understand. Adjust the rates then to something that reflects the course conditions, like a winter/fall rate perhaps.

Do not pay $100+ Green Fees For This Course

I've been playing at Stone Mountain for many years. It used to be a decent value to play there. But now they have raised their green fees into the complete ripoff range. Especially for Stonemont. Many of the greens on the back nine were in poor condition. The sand traps are usually in poor condition. Lakemont is in better condition but the speed of the greens is extremely slow and you need pull out a 5 iron for any 30+ foot putt. Three years ago they were charging less than half this price to play here. It's a ripoff now. Don't play golf here..

So much potential. Beautiful layout… tee and up to green in great shape. Then there’s the greens… probably the worst greens I’ve ever played. $20 courses have these beat. Booked the other course for tomorrow but I’d like to get my money back.

Great Except for the Greens

Most of the course is in great shape. Tee boxes and fairways naver better. However, the greens were in very bad shape. Looks like they need to be replaced.

WORSE THAN SOUTHLAND

I purchased this round for my bday with 3 buddies and after playing the Lakemont course, I was really looking forward to it. However, once we actually got there, everything changed. Worse greens I have literally ever played, and I have played Southland Country Club. There were no pretty views other than the parking lot. The entire front 9 is just back and forth holes, all the exact same hole just in to the wind, then with the wind. $80 for a round, and $20 to pay to park should literally be illegal for how AWFUL this golf course was.

Could be a top 10 course

Overall had a positive experience but the state of the greens are terrible. I’ve never seen a course with beautiful fairways but horrible greens. Looked like they were trying to grow three different types of grass on the greens. The layout is fantastic but the greens are holding this course back. The 20 dollars to park and just get on the course is also a bit of a hidden fee.

Greens were rough not worth the $

Guy at the pro shop bumped price down from $100 to $80 on account of the greens. Still not worth it. Layout was ok, fairways were in good shape, bunkers were pretty bad. Won’t be back until greens are fixed or price is lowered

Nice course, not so nice greens

We paid for a hot deal, so it was worth it to me. I would not have paid full price. The greens were in very poor condition. The rest of the course was very nice and the views were great. Staff was friendly and the practice facilities were nice as well.

I'll wait until they fix the greens

Used to be one of my favorite courses. No longer sadly. The greens are destroyed. If Marriot reads these reviews, they need to replace all the greens with Bermuda, unless they can spend the money to maintain bent grass, which they haven't been this year. Spend your money at mystery valley or southland which are near and in good shape.

Meh, it’s okay

We camped in the Stone Mountain Camp ground and still had to pay $20 to get in. We played Stonemont which is supposedly the harder out of the two courses. Supposedly Lakemont is more scenic and not as hard. Overall the course was an “experience” but not worth $90-$100. I’d say this course is $40-$45 at best. It was fun to do because we were camping here already so there was no drive. Other than that do some research and look around for better deals.

Tee boxes-3/10

Fairways- 6/10

Greens- 3/10 after hole 3.

Cart girls were extremely nice!

Bad greens

Green fee should be half with greens so poor. Different grass types mixed in makes it very hard to find any putting enjoyable.

Bad Greens, NOT worth the $

Played Stonemont and greens are in terrible shape. Many greens have weeds and fungus on them and they are hard to putt on and very frustrating, and its certainly NOT worth the $ & time. Many better options for golf in Atlanta and don't plan on coming back anytime soon.
