Stone Mountain Golf Club sits at the base of one of the Southeast's most popular attractions, Stone Mountain. The club offers two 18-hole courses, Lakemont and Stonemont. The Stonemont Course is the club's original layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones. The gentle hills surrounding the mountain provide the golf course with rolling fairways and greens. The contours are subtle, but they can be deceiving. The classic but tricky layout requires careful strategy and course management in addition to accuracy. The course is routed around the mountain and its accompanying lake, weaving through dense forests of Georgia pine. The layout features narrow fairways, but one of the most challenging features are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout. Since opening in 1969, Stone Mountain's Stonemont Course has hosted numerous events, both local and national.

Pleasantly surprised

Played Stonemont this week and was pleasantly surprised. Lunch at the clubhouse overlooking the lake was excellent. The golf course was still in dormancy so there were a number of areas in which the grass was sparse and with heavy rains the day before there was a lot of standing water. I liked the layout and would definitely play it again in the summertime to see what the course is like when it is in peak season.

Stone Mountain Golf Course

Course has good layout and friendly staff. Paying $20 to get to the course was a disappointing surprise. Course pace of play management was very bad. Condition of course was average. Pace of play made the experience unsatisfactory so I can’t recommend it to others

Only two complaints but they are big ones for me.

1. Cart service came by one time around the 5th hole. Since the course does not turn at the clubhouse it would have been nice for the cart to come buy again.

2. Had to pay $20 to get in the park even with a tee time. It was recommend in the pro shop I buy a Stone mountain season pass OR pre pay for a future round of golf and they’ll give me a parking pass. I’ll just golf somewhere is in the future.

Amazing time

Alice was a very sweet cart lady who greeted us and gave us the run down on where to find everything! The driving range was nice and the Stonemont course was very enjoyable! We will be back next month to play Lakemont for our 1 year Anniversary!!

Only if the price is right

Stonemont is a decent pretty typical Atlanta area golf course. Overall the conditions weren’t terrible considering it is winter but the greens have definitely seen better days. Greens are super fuzzy and slow with more than a few areas of burn out and bumpy areas from unwanted grasses sprouting up in the bent grass greens. Overall it is a fun and challenging course that requires a variety of shots to score well, but at the end of the day I would have been very unhappy if I had paid full weekday rate or heaven forbid weekend morning price tag for worse conditions than some Municipal courses in the area. It’s usually worth it for the Hot Deal.

I will say this is the only course where I’ve seen a ball break uphill. Everything breaks toward the Mountian!

Good and fun course

I played during the Winter and the course was kept very good, although a lot of browns. The layouts are good, challenging, and fun. It's a mountainous course that gave a Floridian like me plenty of fun and challenge. The greens are not that good since they have some patches, are slow, and are inconsistent. Probably during regular seasons, the greens are better. The course could be expensive to play since you need to pay a $20 gate entry fee (in addition to the green fee) given that the course is inside Stone Mountain Park.

Need a Marshall

We had golfers going around us to play only to be backed up once they got to the next tee. South land needs a Marshall or someone to regulate pace of play.

RT Jones Gem

Stonemont is a great traditional track that demands lots of different shots. Keep the ball in the grass or make big numbers. It’s a State Park so expect some novice players. Also , it needs to have 1000 trees removed but because it is a State Park that is difficult to make happen. Definitely walkable! The greens and fairways are in good shape, but expect some granite outcroppings outside the fairways and a few tree roots. Love this place.
