Stone Mountain Golf Club sits at the base of one of the Southeast's most popular attractions, Stone Mountain. The club offers two 18-hole courses, Lakemont and Stonemont. The Stonemont Course is the club's original layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones. The gentle hills surrounding the mountain provide the golf course with rolling fairways and greens. The contours are subtle, but they can be deceiving. The classic but tricky layout requires careful strategy and course management in addition to accuracy. The course is routed around the mountain and its accompanying lake, weaving through dense forests of Georgia pine. The layout features narrow fairways, but one of the most challenging features are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout. Since opening in 1969, Stone Mountain's Stonemont Course has hosted numerous events, both local and national.

Great course, great layout. Very well maintained.

Lakemont course is more hilly (up and down) and narrower fairways than Stonemont course; and that’s what makes this golf course amazing!!!

Disappointed

There was no one at the bag drop to receive my bag ????

Shocked that after paying almost $100 for the round I had the pleasure of picking my cart and loading it up myself. No one was available to give me directions of where to find the first tee. It was also pretty alarming that I had to pay an additional $20 to enter the park . Very slow inconsistent green - almost like putting on carpet. Spectacular views , the only pleasant person was the starter. Just wasn’t what I expected on such a beautiful Saturday morning. Maybe I came on a bad day but sad to say that was truly my experience

One of the Best Layouts in GA

I grew up in Stone Mountain and played Stonemont regularly until I moved away. From the black tees, this is one of the best layouts in the state and still one of my most favorite golf courses. 6900 yards, par 70, thick rough and smallish greens. Also, hit it straight off the tee. No homes on the course (some development outside #8 but a peaceful track.

If they could get the greens rolling at a decent speed, this track is a beast! Being hot and sun exposed, the bentgrass greens were a bit shaggy but still true.... everything breaks towards the mountain. I love this track and will be back again in the fall to play again.

Marshall was annoying

Marshall was constantly stopping by to tell us to pick up the pace. I was playing in an older foursome and we were not holding up the group behind us. No we weren't on top of the twosome in front of us and were never going to be. Didn't pay almost $80 for a round to rush through it to keep up with a smaller group. Not to mention the starter was going to have us play with a 5th person in our group! How slow would that have been? For the price and the constant aggravation, I will go elsewhere for a better experience.

Not the greatest

Greens were all in terrible shape. They put lil sand pits in the green, not sand traps but pits in the middle of the greens. Yet there was no sand to repair divots per the caddys.

No place to have a cigar even though the caddies said there was as we started to sit outside on the patio at the clubhouse and the servers literally called us liars that no one would tell us that. Very overpriced for that condition of the course and then of course you pay another $20 just to get in the park. Won’t be going back

Value Play.

Everything was great: the weather, the course, the scenery, the conditions, the beverages....just didn't understand why i couldn't get a drive back to my car so I didn't have to carry my clubs back, especially on such a hot day. For a course of this stature, makes no sense and left a bad taste after a glorious day! Great commons burger definitely made up for the lack of service by the lads at checkin.

Stonemont Changes

Course is in great shape as expected. Grounds crew does a great job maintaining the course. All the tree cutting of the last several years is a big improvement. Although changing all the time. Some staff have been there for years. They're all friendly and well trained.

On the negative side.

- Disappointment is still the greens. Inconsistent speed from green to green and some still need further work or replacement.

-Robert Trent Jones Sr. will be spinning in his grave if what a member told me about the 11th green is true. They plan to move the 11th green to a location before the creek. The new green will be smaller and flat. It looks temporary. The green has been a problem for years but to abandon the original design is disgraceful. If true I will skip the hole in the future.

- Getting into the park to play is still an issue. If you don't have an annual pass ($40) you have to pay ($20) entrance fee for the day. I think the pro shop offers a discount on merchandise to compensate.

Good Course Greens need some work

We played a day after a big rain so the course was cart path only. Most tee boxes and fairways were in good shape. Greens need some work though. Over half had bare spots. Okay layout some tee boxes are right behind/beside the last green which can make things interesting at times

Great value

Tees, fairways and rough in amazing shape. Greens roll good speed with a few sandy spots in some of the greens. Bunkers are ok. Not raked that day. Good layout.
