Stone Mountain Golf Club sits at the base of one of the Southeast's most popular attractions, Stone Mountain. The club offers two 18-hole courses, Lakemont and Stonemont. The Stonemont Course is the club's original layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones. The gentle hills surrounding the mountain provide the golf course with rolling fairways and greens. The contours are subtle, but they can be deceiving. The classic but tricky layout requires careful strategy and course management in addition to accuracy. The course is routed around the mountain and its accompanying lake, weaving through dense forests of Georgia pine. The layout features narrow fairways, but one of the most challenging features are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout. Since opening in 1969, Stone Mountain's Stonemont Course has hosted numerous events, both local and national.

Ole reliable

Aside from a sand patch on most of the greens, the course is in good shape. Caught a weekday, pre-noon "hot deal, " and got paired up with another golf now'er, which is never an issue when I'm getting a tee time for over 50% off. Finished the round in less than 4 hrs. Bev cart caught us at the turn. If the grounds crew could just get the green issue figured out, this would be a five star round.

Stone is brutal

It's a convenient course when you have a park pass. Tee times are more available on Stonemont opposed to the sister course and I

somehow always trick myself into playing this course when I have an option between the two. It always results in shooting +10 over my hdcp. Although neither course is easy.

I'd give the conditions a 5 but the greens have had an issue for some time now. On most of the greens, like 95% of the green is great but that 5% is just like a sand trap on the green. The front 9 is tight and somewhat unforgiving. Also, no matter what your eyes are telling you, the greens always break towards the mountain.

The club house/restaurant is beginning to become functional. It's nice to be able to grab a bite and drink by the lake again. I'll be back to stone mountain, but I'll be sticking to the Lakemont course for a bit.

Needs More Upkeep

First let me say the people working here are all really nice. With that said the greens are the slowest I've played in town. So slow that you have to hammer the ball to get it to the hole. If you're used to playing fast greens you don't want to play here. Worst part is the sand traps. They are really a complete embarrasment. They are just about unplayable the sand is so packed down. I chipped out of a few of them rather than try to gouge a chunk out of them to get the ball out. A playing partner actually just putted out of one that he was in. Shows you just how packed down and hard they are. It's a nice layout but something needs to be done about the greens and traps. It could be so much better.

Stonemont

Course is in excellent shape. Unless you can really drive, suggest you swallow your pride and move up a tee bos. Most holes are long and they all seem uphill.

Solid course... plays longer than it reads!

This is a challenging layout. Played Stonemont. Greens in great shape. Fairways as well. Really growing in nice this spring. Add a couple hundred yards to the overall scorecard total yardage due to lots of uphill greens. And that first hole! Ouch! Will play again for sure!

Really poor conditions on the course

The bunkers were completed washed out from the rain on Saturday, and no one had remotely attempted to rake them, let alone put additional sand in them. Each bunker had primarily mud in the center where the water had pooled.

In addition, several greens had huge sand spots, and overall the greens were slow, uncut and unrolled. The overall condition of the course is extremely poor for any course with $80+ greens fees.
