Stonemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course
About
Stone Mountain Golf Club sits at the base of one of the Southeast's most popular attractions, Stone Mountain. The club offers two 18-hole courses, Lakemont and Stonemont. The Stonemont Course is the club's original layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones. The gentle hills surrounding the mountain provide the golf course with rolling fairways and greens. The contours are subtle, but they can be deceiving. The classic but tricky layout requires careful strategy and course management in addition to accuracy. The course is routed around the mountain and its accompanying lake, weaving through dense forests of Georgia pine. The layout features narrow fairways, but one of the most challenging features are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout. Since opening in 1969, Stone Mountain's Stonemont Course has hosted numerous events, both local and national.

RTG is turning in his grave
Course design is a unique Robert Trent Jones except they have let it fall into the worst condition possible. Dead patches in fairways, greens that have whole halves that need to get replaced, rocky patches spread through the holes. For $90, I cannot recommend this course, my local muni in NC is $45 and considerably better than this. RTG’s courses are usually at premier destinations, really a shame to see the course look this awful.
Stonemont Course
Love the course, very challenging. Weather was extremely hot typical Georgia summer weather. Could use more water on the course.
Don’t Play here
Although I did love the layout of the course and the nice trees this course was not worth the $100 tee time that is instilled. Most of the tee boxes were pretty much sand and almost half of the greens looked like the asphalt parking lot. There was no marshall to keep up with the pace of play so our round was almost 6 hours. The golf carts were extremely slow and could sometimes barely make it up the steep slopes on the course. This course needs to be $40 MAXIMUM. The range was a joke, $8 for a small bucket which included about 15 balls or a large which was $17. Would not recommend 2/5
Would not recommend
Fairways were atocios, huge patches and muddy areas. Greens were pretty bad with sand in the middle of green on some holes. You have to pay $20 just to park. As far as value goes worst value in Atlanta. $70 to play and $20 to park. $90 to play a $40 course. Would not recommend.
Poorly maintained, but lots of potential
Course layout is really cool with lots of variety and challenges, but the course was a mess at perhaps the peak of the season. Mud in nearly every fairway, greens diseased, and every tee box was a complete mess…like no grass at all. For this price point and for the fantastic design, it’s pretty sad. Also…be prepared to pay $20 to enter the Stone Mountain State Park…it’s not included in your green fee…making it even less of a value.
Average course, decent maintenance
Enjoyed playing given the nice weather. Greens ran true and fairways were in decent shape. Starter was friendly. Did we see a Marshall helping with pace, no. 5 hr round at 8:15am. Only saw beverage girl once and it’s difficult to get refreshments at turn given clubhouse is 10 min drive from 9th and 10th hole on Stonemont. There are better places to play for $100 but it’s a fun course close to the city.
Great Staff!
The staff was awesome from bag drop off to the check in process to the starter! Everyone was great! The course was a little sloshy. Due to the rain. Pace of play was really fast and we were able to tee off early! Thank you Stone Mountain!
Surprise Stone Mountain
A lot of the green fees are very high while the greens are not in so great of conditions. I must admit Stone Mountain's greens are in perfect condition. The course layout is great; pace of play was excellent and good value for the money. I was very impressed with my visit to Stone Mountain, course is in great condition, and I will definitely return for another round with friends.
NOT WORTH THE MONEY
NO WATER, NO CART GIRLS, HORRIBLE GREENS, BACHELOR PARTIES WITH 9 PEOPLE TRYING TO PLAY HOLES. ABSURD AND NOT EVER PLAYING THERE AGAIN
Things the are found on other golf courses than here.
I try to play twice a month. Below It only gives you a choice below for you answer, only once a month.
The corse fairway on all the holes were wide open and less chance of losing your ball in wooded areas that sometimes interfere with the tee off.
There were certain parts of the green where it was not completely even or flat because it was messed up your putt and make it jump to where the imaginary line that you eyed and make you miss the hole.
I'm there to have fun and not be a stick of mud and act like a professional going by all the rules, if I see an area such as this i will drop the ball where it ends. and make putt so it doesn't count against me. Other than that, it was a great experience.
There is one other thing that I've never seen on a golf course which is a good thing, I believe it was the 12th hole, the ball bounced off a retaining wall and landed in marsh pit. When i approached the area i noticed right away that there was a sign that warned you about snakes being in there, therefore I backed from the hole and took a drop on the other side to complete the hole.
My experience was great
I have always wanted to play here. The course conditions were in great shape except for a few greens that were not completely flat whether it was near the hole or a few feet sway from the fringe. There were little patches and bareness of the green as you putt the ball, it jumps up just enough to where it does follow the imaginary line you set up and it misses the hole.
This is not the first course I have seen this and.
'm not sure how to fix this but this canmake you score count against you and I'll drop the ball pass the area and putt the ball in. I dont care if that is not right I'm there to have fun not to be a stick in the mud and putt it where it lies and miss the hole.
Disappointing
I've been playing Stonemont for 40 years. The condition of this course continues to decline. I have played it for the last time. It's not worth the money. Greens were punched, and Golfnow did not disclose that. Other areas of various greens had big piles of sand in the middle of the greens. They don't replace bad areas of greens. This course used to be great 40 years ago. It sucks now. Spend your money somewhere else.
Greens in need!!!!!
Don't mind paying money to play but if you 75 bucks to play your course should be nice greens where so bad I have muni course close to me with better greens drove 2hrs was very disappointed in fairness played about 6 years course was very nice not sure but will be awhile to turn those greens around there a mess
