Stonemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course
About
Stone Mountain Golf Club sits at the base of one of the Southeast's most popular attractions, Stone Mountain. The club offers two 18-hole courses, Lakemont and Stonemont. The Stonemont Course is the club's original layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones. The gentle hills surrounding the mountain provide the golf course with rolling fairways and greens. The contours are subtle, but they can be deceiving. The classic but tricky layout requires careful strategy and course management in addition to accuracy. The course is routed around the mountain and its accompanying lake, weaving through dense forests of Georgia pine. The layout features narrow fairways, but one of the most challenging features are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout. Since opening in 1969, Stone Mountain's Stonemont Course has hosted numerous events, both local and national.

Where to begin? We played Lakemont side. First you have to pay $20 to park at a golf course. Driving range was complimentary which was a plus except they have matted tee boxes. It was almost 100 degrees and we saw the cart girl on #2 and that was it. The entire place seemed understaffed for a Sunday that they also had a tournament going on the Stonemont side. They have a snack trailer at the turn and it was closed when we made the turn. Green fee was $75. The tee boxes on every par three were in disrepair. The greens were the worst part of the entire experience. While they appear to be in good shape they were mowed way too high and putts rolled like putting on a shag carpet. Sand traps were not in great shape and one I landed in didn't have a rake. In summary, there are way better courses for $95(parking included).
Not sure if I would have said yes.
When we went up to tee off we were told we would have a third playing with us. We were not asked. The two groups of two in front of us were asked and said no to having a third (was told this by the third have way into the round) we believe this happened because of our gender. It wouldn’t have been bad if the guy hadn’t gave advice on almost every shot. He also wanted to debate the new golf rules that came out ( leaving the stick in, dropping from knee high) this did not help keep our pace of play.
Since we play together a lot and not against each other, but against ourselves to be told 18 times that we should play against each other was not only rude but redundantly rude.
Did like the pace of play put of the regulars on the course.
Not worth full price
Was able to play on a hot deal for $22. Pulling into the course the clubhouse gives feel of a very nice and high end course. Unfortunately the course does not match. The greens are atrocious. Many dead spots and very bumpy. Doesn’t look like much upkeep is done on the course. Even though it was busy we did play in under 4 hours. Would not play again.
Love StoneMountain
The greens were recently punched. The young men in front of us were poor players but good sports, even bought our group a round of drinks as an apology for the poor play. You can not go wrong playing either side of StoneMountain.
Give the greens a couple more weeks, bumpy from aeration
$20 Course
Greens are horrible, it's not an aeration healing problem it's the greens are horrible. Great track and shame to see it suffer from such horrible greens.
On a positive note food is good and restaurant staff are top notch.
They need to do something drastic for the Stonemont greens, like blow them up and start over
A bit wet
Over all the course was well put together with a beautiful landscape. I would very much like to return and play with dry conditions. Not really a huge drainage problem going on but preventative maintenance should definitely be a topic of discussion.
Great course, but...
I always love playing at Stone Mountain, but the greens were in terrible shape. Not sure if that is due to the time of year, but I have played here in the winter before and the greens have been fine. Not every green was bad, but there were a lot with fungus and dead spots. Not sure what was going on... for the money they charge and how the course is marketed, the course should be flawless and unfortunately it wasn’t today.
Beautiful - Understaffed
Course is beautiful, minimal ground under repair, a few rough spots on greens, bunkers in decent condition.
Only complaint is the on course amenities. The snack shop was closed, we saw a beverage cart when we checked in, however she was missing the rest of the day. In addition to that the only water cooler on the back 9 was empty. The main clubhouse is so far away from the course, they really need to at the very least have water available. I expect a little more for over $70.
Marshal was very rude. Greenscrew ignored me several times as I was trying to approach greens.
