Stonemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course
About
Stone Mountain Golf Club sits at the base of one of the Southeast's most popular attractions, Stone Mountain. The club offers two 18-hole courses, Lakemont and Stonemont. The Stonemont Course is the club's original layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones. The gentle hills surrounding the mountain provide the golf course with rolling fairways and greens. The contours are subtle, but they can be deceiving. The classic but tricky layout requires careful strategy and course management in addition to accuracy. The course is routed around the mountain and its accompanying lake, weaving through dense forests of Georgia pine. The layout features narrow fairways, but one of the most challenging features are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout. Since opening in 1969, Stone Mountain's Stonemont Course has hosted numerous events, both local and national.

Beautiful!
Beautiful scenery and nice layout. Tight fairways, good to know where to place the ball though because there are some tricky fairways. Course in great condition.
Great course for the money through golfnow. Not too hilly and not too much water. It was a nice day Started at 2:30 and were through by 6:30. Seemed to clear out after 4:30.
Maintenance Needed
Stone Mountain has been struggling the last couple years to maintain certain parts of the course. Many of the greens still have sections of grass that are dead or are under repair. It is disappointing that they can't make the needed investment to repair and fix greens.
Fun Course!
Fun course, but a little wet when we played. Would go back again!
. Greens were like Velcro.
This was my first time playing. The greeens were really slow. There were a lot of blinds shoots. Bring your shot making game. A lot of alleys you are hitting into. I guess because of the holiday it was slow play. Five hour round. I would go back but play the other course. On the lake. Just so I had something to compare.
Beautiful golf course
Beautiful golf course with Stone Mountain in the background just about everywhere you are on the course. Greens are a bit challenging. Enjoyed playing and would definitely play again!
Rake the traps
The course is in good shape everywhere except the traps. I played Lakemont the week before and it is the same issue. The traps don't look like they have been raked all year and there are several that are unplayable. You shouldn't charge full price when you can't bring the course to proper playing condition.
I like the course, its just a shame that the traps were lousy.
Disappointing
They told me my tee time with GolfNow was not showing up, but they could put me with a group 20 minutes later than my planned start. However they still charged me full price and for the range balls. One might think they’d comp the balls given the system glitch, but that was not the case. They do have nice TaylorMade range balls though. The first 16 holes played at a decent pace, but 17 and 18 took almost an hour to play. There was an outing that had a shotgun start that totally bogged things down. You come out at 7:20am on a Saturday to get around quickly, not wait like we did. The course was in decent shape, but the 4th, 11th, and 15th greens, at minimum, need to be resurfaced. It looked like they may be targeting 11 green for work, but need to do more soon. I am not sure I’ll come back for a while. Too many things pop up here that drain the value you think you are getting.
Great course. Challenging for every level. Love the park like set up. Very relaxing. Pity you need to pay the park fee to enter for golf.
Decent public course
Was a bit wet when I played and some work was underway but course was in decent condition and the greens were fast. Pretty straightforward course but good for a holiday round.
Staff were efficient and friendly, I rented clubs on arrival (Taylor Made M2 at $50 with two sleeves of balls) and they were pretty good clubs with no wear to the grips etc.
Course was quiet so I had a good run before catching the group ahead on the 15th so no complaints there. Views were good and I imagine Lakemont May be even nicer but I had read it was a less challenging course. That said Stonemont is not difficult (20 handicapper coming in well under net). I would play here again though
Good, but..
Course didn't seem to be well maintained. Loved the layout, but got tired of walking around all of the goose poop around the greens.
Stonemont
Course within beautiful state park. Fairways were very dry and some greens had repair areas
A little dissapointing
Grass was cut so low that you were essentially hitting off the ground. I realize it is early April, but it was discouraging to have a crappy lie on virtually every shot. And painting the bare ground green didn't add to my enjoyment, it only irritated me more.
On the plus side, the staff was very pleasant and accommodating.
I would never pay full price to play this course, and I certainly would not give it another try unless it were between May and September (given the grass conditions I endured)
Good for the most part...
I like the Stonemont course. I have played it a number of times and keep coming back. I have yet to play Lakemont, but will at some point.
What I didn't like about this round was no Starter being there at 7:50am for our tee time when we were the first group scheduled to go off. The father and son who were to be paired with were surprised to be paired with another group... on Saturday morning! That said a lot and they let us go first as a twosome as we knew the course and play quickly.
As we approached the first green, the Starter appears and says he can't let us go as a twosome and we have to wait for the father and son to play the first hole and then go on as a foursome. WHAT? You want to slow everyone down because you are late showing up for work?
We said we'd wait on the next tee, did so for about two minutes, and then played on as a twosome. We could see the father and son as we finished 18 and they were three holes behind us. Had it not been Cart Path Only all day, we'd have likely finished even farther ahead.
It's a good place, but the staff seems wound a little too tight for me. They need to use their heads, not their rules to make it a more enjoyable experience for all.
Mid Week Golf
I work close by and I use weekday afternoons for practice time. The low number of players on weekdays in late afternoon is perfect for practice time.
