Stone Mountain Golf Club sits at the base of one of the Southeast's most popular attractions, Stone Mountain. The club offers two 18-hole courses, Lakemont and Stonemont. The Stonemont Course is the club's original layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones. The gentle hills surrounding the mountain provide the golf course with rolling fairways and greens. The contours are subtle, but they can be deceiving. The classic but tricky layout requires careful strategy and course management in addition to accuracy. The course is routed around the mountain and its accompanying lake, weaving through dense forests of Georgia pine. The layout features narrow fairways, but one of the most challenging features are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout. Since opening in 1969, Stone Mountain's Stonemont Course has hosted numerous events, both local and national.

Winter play

Happened to catch a break in the winter weather and found a round for one player for $25 on a course that usually charges much more. The course co sit-up. Was in unusually good shape considering we just had sub-freezing temps the entire week before. The greens were nice and the staff was fantastic as usual.

Will definitely be back, maybe see how Lakemont is doing. Both courses should not be missed. The surrounding views of Stone Mountain and the lakes are beautiful.

$15 park "parking" fee

A nice layout with nice greens, but pace of play is sometimes can be very awful and the $15 park fee just to get inside the park gates on top of your greens fee, make this playing here not really a great value

Stonewall Jackson

This review has nothing to do with him other than it's one of the street names you drive in on.

The course is beautiful and very well kept. Don't play hybrids off the pine straw and be aware that Bermuda grass is VERY sticky and you should do just fine. A few of the greens had issues but it appears they are working on it. They are still entirely playable. Enjoy the views.

Game tester

I love this course, it's a nice barometer for your game. The whole course is right in front of you, you just have to hit your targets. There is no room for error on either side of the fairway, wayward shots are thoroughly punished and even when you find your ball doesn't men ypu can play it. Only two par 5s on the course, both with challenging tee shots, make scoring quite tough. Few of the greens are tricky, and down right brutal when they are fast. Maintenance has been a struggle in the past but they have cleared a bunch of trees and it seems to be helping. When the course is in good shape, shes a real beaut.

Stone Mountain (Stonemont)

Now, this review is not meant to turn business away from the 2 Courses at Stone Mountain but as much as I play golf I expect to receive a proper heads up when I check in on the Course Conditions, Pace of Play, and Facilities. Checking in was easy and the staff at the Pro Shop were very helpful. Being that this was my first time playing the course, I was given directions to the course and the Practice Facility. I purchased a small bucket of balls to warm up. We left the Pro shop and hopped on the Golf cart and headed to the range. The 1st Tee box was close to the Range which made things very convenient.

As we approached the 1st Tee Box, on first glance, the course looked to be in great shape and the course was until we reached the Greens on the 1st Hole. We noticed as we arrived at each Green on the Stonemont course it looked as if either fungus or something left big patches on the Green. It looks as if someone stripped parts of the Green and left bare spots. I took a couple of pics to add to the review. It would've been nice if someone from the Pro Shop gave us a heads up about the course conditions on the Greens.

We also noticed as we played on some holes, the grass was very soggy as if the sprinkler system was left on, to slow the ball down. I noticed this as you walked up to the green and couldn't really figure this out because on some holes there was no water nearby. We really didn't notice it on the first 3 holes but when we arrived at the 4th hole as we approached the Green our shoes were wet (the grass was really soft and mushy) and noticed some mud on our shoes as we walked onto the Greens.

We noticed this trend on the next 3 holes as well. Along with the additional Fungus or whatever you want to call the large bare spots on the Greens. And yes it did affect our play as I hit one shot that bounced on the large empty patch on the green and dug in the ground pretty deep. The way the ball played you would've thought it had rained the night before and made the Greens really soft.

Other than the wet soggy grass approaching the Greens, and the patches on the Greens, the course was in pretty good shape.

I have to admit that the Fairways looked really nice, as the balled traveled pretty smooth on well-hit shots that land in the Fairways. The pace of play was Excellent as there was no one in front of us and the group behind us, was 2 holes away. We did notice that someone left Beer cans and a little debris on the 10th and 11th holes on the Back 9.

Will I play Stone Mountain again, probably, but if there are additional options I'll gladly look to book elsewhere first. Again, this review is not intended to speak badly on the Stonemont course, it's just what I experienced playing a round yesterday on 10/1/17.

Great Value

Beautiful piece of property with nice layout with the exception of #9 which is a goofy downhill 90 degree dogleg left. You cannot see ball land from tee which is very out of character from the rest of the course. For $30 with cart at twilight it was well worth the effort to play!

Blindsided by state park entrance fee

This course is located inside a national park which has a fee to enter. On top of that the green fees are much too expensive for the quality of golf the course offers. Definitely would not recommend this course to anyone.

Enjoyable round

I enjoy Stonemont overall. Part of it is military golf - left, right, left as some of the holes run parallel to each other on the front nine while the back nine is more diverse and scenic. The greens are generally small, but good although a few have bad sections that really need to be replaced. Tee boxes are OK and fairways are good. There is great variation in elevation and righ-to-left and left-to-right holes. Multiple tee boxes give you options to match your skill level.

Memorial Day Golf

We played early Monday morning before it got too busy. I was very impressed with the overall condition of the course. The fairways had just been cut and there was a lot of mulch, only a few greens had damage...other than that it was great. Thanks!

Beware of the $15 park entry fee

So ridiculous you have to pay $15 just to enter the park to get to the course. They should have some arrangement for people just golfing

A Bobby Jones Delight

From the moment we arrived on property, I knew we were in for a treat! Being from Florida, there are typical "Florida" layouts and I knew this was nothing of the sort. With rolling hills and breathtaking views, the course provides unlimited photo opportunities with Stone Mountain in the background. The layout has "Augusta" like features that are found throughout Jones' designs.

Everything seems to break towards the mountain and being unfamiliar with the course, I found myself in some precarious spots. I'd love another crack at this course now that I've played it and have a feel for club selections.

The pace of play was fantastic early in the morning and everyone was extremely friendly. We'll most certainly be back on our next trip to Stone Mountain Park.

Good layout, but course condition needs improvement

We played the Stonemont course the week after the Masters on our way back to Atlanta. We liked the design and layout of the course, and there was a good mix of interesting and challenging holes. However, the course condition was below expectations and in need of some urgent attention in places. On the positive side, the proshop was well stocked with quality merchandise and we received a friendly welcome.

Good Potential

Stonemont has a fantastic layout with great views. The tee boxes are not nice and I'm from New England so I usually don't see the best tee boxes. The fairways were very good. The greens were the worst that I have ever come across in my life. When we complained, they said that they were just punched and hadn't come back. Not the case, they looked like they had been vandalized. If you can golf for free then it is worth it. If not, I would suggest staying on Lakemont.
