Stonemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course
About
Stone Mountain Golf Club sits at the base of one of the Southeast's most popular attractions, Stone Mountain. The club offers two 18-hole courses, Lakemont and Stonemont. The Stonemont Course is the club's original layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones. The gentle hills surrounding the mountain provide the golf course with rolling fairways and greens. The contours are subtle, but they can be deceiving. The classic but tricky layout requires careful strategy and course management in addition to accuracy. The course is routed around the mountain and its accompanying lake, weaving through dense forests of Georgia pine. The layout features narrow fairways, but one of the most challenging features are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout. Since opening in 1969, Stone Mountain's Stonemont Course has hosted numerous events, both local and national.

Took the Stone Mountain Challenge!
We played the Stonemont course at Stone Mountain, definitely the more challenging of the 2 courses. There is a lot of elevation and interesting holes. So nice to be on a golf course that is not stuck in the middle of a subdivision of homes. Would play this again. Only downside was the state of the greens, several ball marks and poor growing patches. There is a $10 entry fee into the Stone Mountain park which was a bit of a surprise too.
Stonemont Great Layout
Was a great day to play. Low 80's. Fairways were in excellent condition. Most greens ok but some a little bare. Staff was very nice. This is a very interesting 18 hole layout. Always enjoy this 18.
Bigmac 62
We were in town on vacation and I booked a tee time on line. However when we showed up I had booked the wrong day. A young lady who was working that morning was able to get us out on the course and honored the rate I booked on line. I believe her name was Kelly? All the staff that we encountered that day were very friendly. I would recommend this course to anyone. The only criticism I have was that some of the greens were not in good shape at all.
Plays longer than its yardage - good challenge
The course was in good shape with greens almost recovered from recent aerification. Some rough patches on the greens, but the starter said they are being repaired next week.
I had not played this course in a few years and had forgotten how long it plays - especially the par 3s. Most tee shots have to navigate around some trees, or they will end up running through the doglegs. There is also a lot of slope in the fairways and some on the greens. There were some soggy wet spots in the rough here and there.
Overall, good conditions and a challenging layout.
Good Course
Good course with the exception of fresh grass trimmings in fairways!
I like this course, but ...
The grass on the greens was quite patchy. All other features of the course were very good. It is scenic, rewards accurate shots because of woods close on both sides on quite a few holes. But the greens were an annoyance this time.
stone mountain golf
greens had been aeriated and wasn't disclosed. Other than that course was in very good condition. pace of play was perfect
dissapointed
Greens were surprisingly in HORRENDUS SHAPE! Fairways were absolutely PLUSH& LOVELY though.........Just wished that more care was given to green condition. ........still a wonderful course to play always
Great day!
We were the first to tee off at 7:20. There was a twosome behind us who was playing pretty fast so we let them play through. We didn't see another group the rest of the day! Overall the course was in good shape especially the fairways. There were a couple of greens in need of some TLC but the majority were in decent shape. The weather had called for a 40% chance of rain, maybe that's what kept everyone away but the day couldn't have turned out better! Very enjoyable round of golf.
Don't play here
The course is in terrible shape. The greens are the worse in the area.
Wonderful!
Glorious conditions both the weather and course. Very few other golfers. Warm welcome on arrival. The staff deserve special praise because they cannot do enough for you. Course was in excellent condition except for two greens which had been affected by the sun but which didn't actually detract from the challenge of the course. The beautiful scenic views of the lake and Stone Mountain are fabulous. We played on a Monday and the clubhouse was relatively quiet and the restaurant was closed but we were still able to obtain food and drinks. Was a pleasure to play there and in such quiet conditions and we will be back very soon.
Great place to play golf with a few buddies
Course is in great shape. A few greens need a little TLC; but overall course is great! Looking forward to the next round.
Nice place to play
Really enjoy playing this course. Have played both tracks many times over the last few years. Played Stonemont on Saturday 8/16, and found many of the greens are patchy. Apparently they are suffering from disease. Pace of play can vary if there are large groups ahead and can't play through. Fairways are in excellent shape so I would recommend this course if you can get a good deal on the greens fees.
I thought I was dreaming
What can you say, everything is great. The roughs are the roughest I hav played in some time. I was cursing them, they would'nt let you go easly, that is why they're job. The fairways looked like carpet, the greens are nice.
I'm sitting in my livingroom, it's Saturday morning and writing about this has me ready to go and get in a round.
Stonemont the Great
The course was in great shape. I teed off about 7:50 am and finished about 10:50 am. Two groups let me play through at nine and ten.
The front nine is a beast: undulating greens and tree-lined, undulating fairways present quite a challenge to most weekend warriors. But it was my birthday and I went around and made my best score on this track. I later played 18 at another course in the area: it played so much easier than normal after playing Stonemont.
Not the course I expected
I was disappointed in the condition of the course. Tee boxes were sandy with a few blades of grass, fairways were good, but the greens were not impressive. They had ball marks all over , certain greens had black spots with no grass in that area, and they bounced when trying to putt. I was expecting a little better condition from a Marriott golf facility. I would recommend course for the layout and design, not the conditions of tee boxes and greens.
Not bad, could be better.
Played on Saturday, slow play was expected.Fairways in good shape but the bentgrass greens were suffering in the southern heat. I would play it again.
Great course but need to pick up pace of play!
Played Stonemont on a Saturday afternoon so expect some crowding, but when we got to the tee box on the sixth hole we were shocked to find three groups waiting to tee off. A call to the marshalls did not have much effect. Fortunately a tournament had just ended on Lakemont and back nine was wide open so we cut over to the back nine after finishing up on the seventh hole and then cam back to finish up on Stonemont 8 & 9.
Parking Fee, Really?
If you book a tee-time, you still have to pay $10 to park? Yes, you do.
An early Friday morning tee-time still took 4 3/4 hrs to complete.
Bent grass greens were feeling the summer heat.
Little water, lots of sand
I enjoyed playing Stonemont. There is only one water hazard, but there are numerous sand traps. I played for about 1/2 price. I'm not sure I would be as willing to play here at full cost.
