Going downhill
I've played Smokerise for years and this is the worst shape I've ever seen it in. Bunkers are absolutely gone. Rough hasn't been mowed in some time and is about 3 inches long.
Greens are quite nice though. They have done a good job keeping them up but the rest is hardly what you would expect of a private club.

Greens in great shape. Fairways can be hit or miss. Tee boxes fair. Most annoying are the carts shutting down in the middle of a fairway or even more annoying on the cart path telling you to get on the cart path!
Renovations have been going on all summer but just doesn't seem to be coming together..
Decent value for the money...

Where do I start?
Terrible signage for the next hole, kind of lost several times
Others have said it but the carts are diabolical, overly unnecessarily controlling, would slow down with little provocation and twice in my case stopped because I was supposedly in a restricted zone—when I was on the cart path, again no signage about this
Greens were advertised as really fast and personnel reinforced this—maybe they forgot to cut that day but were not fast, although did roll true
Course maintenance not good, and the Bermuda (?) rough was exceedingly difficult to hit out of—too much for me, I didn’t think I would be playing a US Open rough on a poorly maintained course

Great course, horrible carts
I’ve played here multiple times before and know that the carts have restrictions with where you can go on the course. I have no issue with that, but the speed at which these carts went added probably another 20-30 minutes to our round. They either would go 3 MPH, or stop every 10 feet, making us a slow group. We tried changing carts and it made no difference. One of the carts even died on hole 16, forcing one of our players to walk the rest of the way. Fix your carts.

Great course, long and challenging. Annoying smart carts
I had a great experience.
It was supposed to rain, but it didnt, and my pairs decided to back out and i enjoyed a good solo run. I found the course generally long, even on white tees it was quite hard for a guy like me who doesnt have much of distance.
Cold waters very often, plenty of bathrooms to go to, and clubhouse is very nice to hang out in. Staff could not be any friendlier.
course was fine. greens were quite fast, well maintained, fairway and rough conditions were fine. The only gripes I have with this course is the awful nanny of a cart that doesn't let you do anything, and a lot of area that lets you get near but does not let you get out unless you back out extremely slowly, (and dangerous if you back up in a incline). I understand some areas are off limits, but there are no warnings of when or where this is coming. It would be nice if it shows the GPS fence on the screen, but it does not.
I really liked the course, but I think ill probably not return just because of the awful cart.

Fantastic old golf course that has been restored
Me and my partner and my service dog always enjoy this course!! It is beautiful and challenging and has a lot of history! I am always excited to return again

Underwhelming experience
Played this course 3 times. Course layout is terrible. Severe dog- legs made the play from the Blue tees(equivalent of white tees on most courses) less than desirable. Typical round of most courses off white tees would require 12-13 drivers off tee box. Blue tees off this course maybe 3-4.
Carts are programmed to slow down around hilly terrain . Problem was too often its slowed to near stopping on Flat surfaces!!! Made for very slow play. Very frustrating.

Great place to play
The course is beautiful very challenging layout, worth every penny. Staff was great and friendly, some of the views are from a movie scene.

This course was once an immaculate course and a privilege to play. Those days are long gone. Most of the fairways are mowed weeds, bunkers are horrible, cart paths need attention and you may be better off walking then dealing with some of the golf carts they have. They have programmed the carts to make you become a fan of walking instead of riding. Any public course is a better option.
