Smoke Rise Country Club

Course was in great shape. Bunkers had some erosion from recent rain. Overall great experience and we’ll worth the money.

The course was in okay condition. The greens were like putting on a trampoline. There was not one bunker that was playable. There was no marshal or people helping pace of play. My round took over 6 hours. There was a threesome that would just hit 15 ball off the tee, and the best shot they had was 70 yards. I tried to call the clubhouse on these people to help but the clubhouse just wouldn’t answer.

I am not the person to write many reviews, but this had to be written here.

If you ever see a Golfnow price for a tee time of $29, and the reservation will not go through (for whatever reason), Smoke Rise CC will not honor the price. It amazes me how I was to show the female worker behind the desk on Golfnow the price of $29 on my phone yet still charging my group $42 each. She even said "I will wait on the side here, until you want to pay to play..." how rude is that. That is not customer service.. At least offer a bucket of range balls or to honor the tee time of event instead of pushing us back 30 minutes. I will never come back here again after that moment.

In addition, She also said, "Oh if you add up the convenience fees, it would have equaled $42 either way..." That is far from the truth.

The course tee boxes are in horrible shape, some of the greens are not viable to even putt. This is not worth even $29 to play this course. This is my 3rd time coming here, and the courses have yet to be in great condition.

The whole course is full of hills and some of the fairways are 50 yards wide. The whole course is hard which would be ok if the fairways and greens were good but they aren’t. Every single tee box if full of dirt and holes and just in a bad conditions. For it being a country club I thought it would be in much better conditions

This is one of the worst courses you can play in the ATL metro. Pace of play was extremely poor on the course. They charged a full $62 for the round. I am fine paying that on a course that is worthy. Smokerise CC has fallen a lot in the past few years. Every single bunker is overgrown with grass and debris. The greens were just shy of shag carpet. the pace of play was egregious, we were waiting almost 10min per shot. Staff was unfriendly and there was no marshal even attempting to speed up play.

If this review reaches anyone, all i can say is, spend your money else where, ATL area is full of great courses. Take it from me. Smokerise is one you can skip.

This is a really fantastic course. Perfect length course, I was a solo and finished in 4hrs. The greens, fairways & roughs are beautiful! I rarely find greens this nice and fast. The only thing that I could comment on was that the bunkers were disappointing and unkept. But, honestly that made zero impact on my day. Looking forward to playing again!

I was nicely surprised by this course, based upon what other reviewers said. For the most part, it is in very good shape for a public course. That said, I don’t think its condition is what I’ve seen at private golf & country clubs—of course, they are not open to the public.

Many bunkers did have crabgrass or were in poor shape. And a few greens had a few patches. Only negative I can make about the course. But then again, most of the greens were in beautiful condition.

The fairways and rough areas were in very good shape.

What I didn’t like was the course design.Many holes have a “gorge” that cuts across fairway (I think they put strong golfball magnets in them :-) lThese are hazards from which your call cannot be retrieved. I’ve seen hazards like that on other courses, for sure. Just not almost every hole.

Still in all, I’d play again…once it cools off.

When I got into my car, car thermometer said 98 degrees.

This course was a difficult stretch! It was many blind tee shots, so you really have to trust your placement and knowing your lines. A few tee boxes were pretty muddy and didn’t have grass, but the fairways made up for it. There are barely any flat lies on the entire course so if you get one hit a heat shot! Now the bunkers on the other hand are terrible. There was crab grass growing out of most of them on the back nine.

Skipped 3 holes unplayable. They need to notify their customers

The bunkers have crab grass growing in them. Course felt very rough around the edges. Worse than I remember. Greens were shaggy and bumpy. Some tees were just awful. The place needs some love. Glad we only paid for a Hot Deal.

The course layout is fun and challenging but the upkeep is poor. Greens are not well maintained nor are tee boxes or traps. You would hope for better with what seems like decent management. Hope to see they get control of it soon.

Smoke Rise is a challenging and long course. Greens weren’t in the best condition but were playable. Good use of irons and woods due to narrow fairways and dog legs.

Fairways were quite good, but greens and especially the tees were recently aerated and therefore plugs all over the tees (which appeared to be in rough shape/splotchy beneath the thousands of aeration plugs. Greens were better than the tees but had a lot of aeration dirt left behind so the roll was very uneven. This course is at best a $20-$25 value. Wouldn’t play again unless the price were lowered significantly.

This course had several greens very beat up.Many of the traps had grass growing in them. Some tee boxes it was a struggle to find a place for your ball. We will not be returning.

Worked for Canongate when they managed this course and I can tell you that it seems like they’ve given up.

The greens, for the most part, were in good shape. There were some rough spots, and a few greens that had mushrooms sprouting on them, (fungicide guys!), but they rolled good and were fairly quick.

And that’s where it ended. Tea boxes and fairways were garbage, and there was more grass in the bunkers and there was on the greens. Absolute complete waste of money, and I will never go back.

Horace was amazing, just like he has been for the last 19 years. The gentleman in the golf shop was super cool, extremely nice and professional. The starter was great.

GPS in the carts was awesome, except it would shut you down anytime you got near the green even though you were on the cart path. I cannot believe how far this course has fallen in the last six years.
