Bad shape
Very disappointed with the condition of the course. Tee boxes were in very bad shape. The fairways had no grass and weeds. The traps were unplayable. The greens were ok and most had weeds.
Ok maybe the rain had something to do with combined with the virus. I would suggest they do not charge full price for the condition it is in.

I recommend a "wait & see" approach
I'll start by stating that Smoke Rise is one of my favorite courses in the area. The only "downside" is that I don't hit many drivers here, but that's because it's my worst club & gets me in deep trouble here. The smart play is to hit to the 150 marker, no matter what your eyes tell you, but how many of us can play that kind of disciplined golf?
Anyway, on to my review. I played on a cold, wet day -- one of many wet days we've had this winter. I expected the course to be a little furry, since it may have been difficult to mow with all the rain we had had; I accepted that when I booked my tee time. Unfortunately the course conditions were much worse than I expected. It was a huge disappointment to find most tees were a muddy mess with barely any grass. The greens were slow, as expected, but also bumpy with little clumps of weeds. When I was telling a buddy about it the next day at another course (which was in much better shape than Smoke Rise), he replied that he had heard conditions at Smoke Rise had been deteriorating for a couple of years.
As a result, I've decided to take a wait & see approach. It's still one of my favorites, & it will always catch my eye as I'm looking for tee times, but I'm going to wait & see what other reviewers have to say about the course conditions. I'm hoping it was just a mess because of all the rain, but the course that I played the very next day (St. Marlo) was in very good shape considering the weather. I'm hoping that Smoke Rise returns to being a great course in great shape because I would hate to remove it from my rotation.

used to be in good shape
I know it's winter, but the course needs some help. Tee boxes were bad, and the greens have weeds growing in them. It seems that it has gone downhill, cause I used to enjoy playing that track.

Horrible place
Would not refund me for a rain check. Said it wasn’t within 24 hours so have to pay in full. Rain doesn’t give 24 hour notice! Will never go back.

However, we do provide full rain checks for 18 holes if a guest does not wish to play or cannot make their tee time due to unforseen circumstances. Good deal!
It's been a very rainy month overall so there are some bad areas to avoid or deal with. Had a great time till it got cool late in the day. Can't beat the price. Lunch prices were a bit higher than expected ($30 bucks for a couple of dogs and chips ).

Winter Golf Round
The course was in great shape for a winter round, except for the tee boxes. Many of the tee boxes had no grass at all. Looking forward to playing here again.

The condition was great even after so much rain.
Expected the course to be poor due to so much rain, but it was far better condition.
Forgot my sweater on the cart and their staff kept it overnight even folded neatly.
Their staffs are great including those maintenance guys.

Winter golf at Smokerise
This is a challenging course where accuracy is more important than distance. Fairways are typically bare since it’s January but the greens were in great shape!, Most of the sand traps needed some work. I will look forward to a return visit once the grass resumes spring growth.

Tough course
This is a great course to shatter your confidence.
All kidding aside, this is a great course. They have some of the better greens in the Atlanta area. Well worth the hot deal on Golfnow.

Fun Course - Makes you work on 3 wood down
First time playing this course and I really enjoyed having to be creative with club selection. Only hit driver on a few holes but most were done with my 4 iron off the tee and that was from the tips!
The staff and food were excellent!
This course makes you think about the shot and club like none other...will be back again soon!

You have to put the ball in the fairway to score well. The greens are faster than they seem.
