No Rain Check, just apology
Overall the course is okay. You get what you pay for. Friday afternoon $42 w tax. Greens are good, fairways okay, and cart paths very aged and broken by tree roots.
Disappointing that they would not offer any type of rain check due to thunder storms with lightning. We paid $42 for 8 holes played. They did apologize, but said no to any consideration of a rain check for partial play.
There is no water on the course. Sincere regards.
Price Increased, Course Quality Decreased. NO WATER
We've played at Southland for almost 10 years. The course has changed owners/management several times, the newest team is the worst by far. The tee boxes are destroyed, nothing but burned up mud and divots. You struggle to find any grassy areas to tee your ball.
The course is an 18-hole loop, you do not pass the clubhouse at the turn. There is one empty water cooler station that has not had water in it since COVID. We played last week and the bathroom sink had also been shut off. We asked the very unfriendly and rude man working the counter and he said we could buy as many bottles of water as we liked before the round, but they weren't going to stock the water cooler again.
They have new carts but the brakes don't work well. It's very hard to safely stop going down hill. The cart paths are torn up. You have to walk over a stretched out chain to get back to your car with your clubs, they said they don't trust the local residents not to steal the golf carts so there is no easy access to your car.
The pace of play is abysmal, there is no ranger to be found. The tee times regularly take 5.5 hours on a Saturday to complete a round, the course is always backed up and slow.
The bunkers are terrible. Only half of them have sand, the rest of them are red clay mud pits full of weeds or standing water, depending on the hole. The green side bunker off 16 is usually 3' underwater.
No food/drink options at the turn. No beverage cart options.
All of the bridges and elevated tee box steps are in horrible shape, it's a miracle they don't have constant injuries out there.
This course has steadily gone downhill over the last decade, the only thing going for it are the greens, which are shockingly nice for a course this terrible.
I would save my money and play at Stone Mountain, Sugar Creek, Smoke Rise, or Mystery Valley nearby. Southland is nothing but rude staff and horrible conditions.
No water?!?
The course was OK but the staff says ownership refuses to supply water coolers around the course. This is not only on a 98 degree day, but year round! Course regulars say they havent been provided for years at this course. No beverage service carts either. Talk about liability.
Water is provided for purchase in the clubhouse, but you can only access it before the round, as the course continues for 18 holes before you make it back to the clubhouse. We brought 4 bottles of water for 2 people, but at 98 degrees, they were empty by the 13th hole, so we quit and had to drive the cart past around 10 groups to reach the clubhouse.
Also, no bag drop and no ability to drive the cart to your vehicle for loading and unloading.
Until they provide even the basic amenities of a golf course, I wouldnt waste your time.
Course in better Shape
I think when I invite my friends to come play a round on my home course.. I want be as embarrassed anymore!!
But please cut some of the branches from hanging on cart path!!
Great Course, but could use water coolers
Course was great and staff was great. No water coolers on the course at all. Bring plenty of water as it’s hot as hades this year.
Need Amenities (100 degree weather no cart service)
-Tee Boxes needs work (too hard)
-Cart Services
-Dark Flags (hard to range shoot)
dont get fooled by the Country Club in the name
very poor customer service, no water on the course, no notification at the time of checking, you do not pass by the "club house" after the 9th hole so no chance to get water. it was over 100 degrees and when you call the proshop no one answered, this course is not in good condition. the price on Golf now after taxes and fee is the same at the course.
Close and convenient
Excellent course for the money. I wish they had water and ice the weather was extremely hot . But the pass of play was great, and the course well maintained.
come a long way, would recommend
They have done a ton of work on this course. Fairways and greens are in great condition. Some of the tee boxes are a little thin on grass and the bunkers have to be played as ground under repair. Since they don't maintain the bunkers, they should just till them up and plant rough level grass in them and call them grass bunkers.
No course amenities at all and you never come back by the clubhouse. Bring your own water. It was hot out there.
Terrible
Clubhouse looks like it's about to close, hardly anything in it. Bathroom was cleanish. Carts were hosed off, but still pretty dirty. Tee boxes were like concrete, couldn't get a tee in most of them and a handful had zero grass. Number of holes were blind with no way of knowing if group was gone. I bell would help tremendously. It was over 100 degrees and no beverage cart or coolers to refill a water bottle. Clubhouse said if you want water, come back and get it. Not ideal when you're at the back of the course. Wouldn't play this place if it were free!
Course was well kept overall, greens were great, tee boxes were hit and miss. 95 degree day and there was no water anywhere on the course. All of the cooler stands were empty and there was no turn. Even some of the ball cleaners were out of water. Last three holes have great views. If it wasn’t so hot, would have been a decent round.
Fun course for all golfers
Good course layout with challenging areas for better golfers, but still fun for average golfers with high handicaps. Don't plan on stopping midway through the course at the clubhouse as you won't be there again until you finish 18. So bring all the food, drinks you need for 18 holes. No drink carts during the round. Some of the tee boxes all struggling, but all the fairways and greens were very good.
Good value
The grass is in a reasonable condition. Tee box is not in good condition for some of the holes. The cart way is in bad condition. Overall this is a good value course
