Great courses.
Played the Starboard course but pace was really slow due to our group being the first tee time following the last outing group. Staff was very nice and gave us a coupon for reduced play the next time out. I’ve played the Port course before and liked the Starboard a little better, personal preference. Played the blue tees for the first time and some of the par fours were long for me but it’s nice to challenge yourself. Looking forward to playing again.
Bring a good mindset
Played here since they opened in the mid 90’s. All the extra services are gone, but the course(s) have always been the focus of this golf facility. Challenging, but fair. When the wind kicks up, which is often, be prepared to hit some bad shots - they will happen. Overall, always a great golfing experience here. Keep up the great work!
Overrated
This is the 3rd time I have played this course and you don’t get what you pay for.
When I went to grab my cart they had about 7-8 nice carts with the touch screen GPS and about 25 old beat up carts with no amenities. They tried to give me the old cart and I asked to get one with GPS and they acted like I asked for their 1st born.
They had 1 cart girl with a cart that had no food except for 2 bags of chips and crackers. I waited till the turn to grab a bite and the grill had a dry chicken sandwich or brat. Got to a point where I told them just to tell me what they did have.
The pace of play was ridiculous, there where nuptial occasions when there where 4 groups on 1 hole. I called the pro shop and they did they would send some one and they never did.
Part of when you pay the price they ask for this course is the customer service and experience. This place is completely lacking that. I can go play Mistwood for the same price and be completely blown away.
The one thing here that is great is the practice facility and their staff. They are always wonderful and the chipping area is great.
If you want to charge the price you do then step your game up and give that value. I won’t play here again.
No Wind on this Day
I played the Starboard course after experiencing more than 20-30 mph on the Port Course, but on this particular day after it had rained, there was not a breath of wind in the air.
With the course having no defenses, my brother and I (who are both around a 5 handicap) shot great scores on a seemingly easy golf course. Needless to say, it was beautiful, just surprisingly easy. I’m sure I would have a different opinion if I played it on another day.
Good and challenging
Enjoyed my room very much very challenging course my own suggestion hideous repaving of the cart path very bumpy might as well ride on the grass next to it it’s smoother
Almost perfect
The course was great, but they need to speed up the fairways. It doesn’t match the rest of the course to have zero roll in the fairways in the middle of summer. Greens are quick but for such narrow tee shots your not rewarded for hitting fairways.
Not my typyof course.
I only had 2 players. Somehow it was booked for a foursome. Please refund 2 players
Starboard
7am tee time midweek, light wind, very few people on the course. Views of The Chicago skyline in the background on some holes is amazing. Course was in great condition, would give it five stars if they paved the cart paths (Bumps and pot holes everywhere) and had better food at the shack on the turn.
Beautiful course!
We played Harborside - Starboard, as a group of 4. The course layout is wide open but lined with plenty of tricky sand traps and tall grass roughs just outside the fairway. Wind off the lake was a major variable but overall this is a pristine public course well worth the green fees. Don’t look any further if you’re searching for the best public gold within 20 minutes of downtown Chicago.
