Great Course wish it was closer
Overall we had a great time. I thought the greens ran very slow for this course. I noticed that the fairway bunkers had no sand. I'm pretty this had to do with all the rain we've been getting. At the turn we got some Sheboygan brats, for $5, what a great deal and there were very good. Wheather was perfect with some wind on the 2nd nine but the wind was playing in our favor on the last 4 holes which made for a good finish.
Starboard Ho!
Challenging layout, especially in the wind. (The wind is always a bigger obstacle when you are playing into it than a help when you are playing with it. But I've known that about golf for many years!) A links style layout with a good variety of hole designs. Excellent shape, although I wish people would do a better job of fixing their ball marks. Greens were nice and rolled true.
Fun in the Windy City.
Breakfast was good. Course was in good condition. Staff friendly and helpful. If you can go up toward greens to take a look at where you need to go like hole number two. Greens get trickier on back nine. Most holes have wide fairways. Lots of bunkers. Got 20 to 30 mile winds. Need to pay attention to landing spots to attack greens.
Fantastic!
Amazing course! The staff could not have been more pleasant. From the GM to the pro - to the ladies in the pro shop and the starters. A great experience !
Must support this community asset.
Golf is in trouble! We golfers, who love the game, have to do everything we can to protect great assets like harborside. The weather, the disinterest from the millennials etc are a toxic mix threatening the economic viability of Chicago golf (how long will the city absorb the losses). To the courses I say, think out of the box! Promote free ride alongs (bring the wife, grandma or kids out with you for a fun 9 after 5). Anything to get people out. Wine and 9 and more. Start a nonprofit course maintenance volunteer program. Think! We are in deep trouble.
great course
Harborside has handled all the rain we've been getting very well. I dont recall seeing any soggy cart tracks, as i would at courses that doesn’t have good drainage. Alot todo with this being a links course & the wind constantly airing everything out??? Anyways my only 2 gripes, would be “next tee” signs at cross-paths. A few times i had to guess where to turn, and the gps was wrong more than not. Had to rely on my rangefinder.
Nice course, good pace, need work on cart paths
I enjoyed almost everything about the course. Layout and condition were very good. My only suggestions would be some work on the cart paths, which are full of pot holes, and therefore collect water, and a program to clean shoes after the round.
Cart Paths
All cart paths need repaired and re-surfaced. These are bad. All the others like greens and fairways are fine.
A bit disappointed
Played on a Sunday afternoon. The course was not jammed pack, however it still took 5 hours to complete our round. Waited on every single shot. Not a single ranger monitoring pace of play. However, I did count 4 rangers each with their own cart planted permanently near the first tees and snack back chatting away having a good ole time. Also, the big change from the past years are their cart paths. Portions of the course has removed them and replaced them with loose dirt/gravel. Therefore you pretty much inhale dust and gravel on dry days. Hopefully, they plan on repaving this. For close to $100 a round, you would expect more.
Don’t play if it’s car path only.
Requires too much walking on Cartt path only days it slows play took 5hrs with just 2 golfers
Great Course but Windy
We had a great round but the weather was cold and extremely windy making it extra challenging
Overall great service that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an upgrade in customer service and beyond
I played the Portside earlier this year, and halfway through the round at Starboard I realized through poor memory that this was not the same course as Portside that I thought I would be playing. If my memory serves me correctly I would say that Starboard has more strategically placed bunkers ?. Now I can't wait to play Port again to see if that's the case..all that to say I had a long day navigating around bunkers. I'll blame my long day on the awesome scenery that these courses have to offer. What a treat. I don't know what took me so long to visit.
1st timer
Tough course, especially for a first time. Fairways are narrow on most holes. Sand traps, greens, tee boxes and fairways in great shape. But rough is really ROUGH.
