Course was in great shape considering the time of year but the bunkers were terrible - little to no sand in them they were definitely a penalty if you were in them
Other than that I'd recommend giving this course a play
WINDY
DRIVING RANGE WAS IN AREA WITH HARDLY NO GRASS. IT WAS SO WINDY
WHEN YOU WENT TO SWING YOU WOULD GET BLOWN OVER. FLAGS WERE
HARD TO PUT IN HOLE. BALL ON GREEN WOULD MOVE. AFTER ROUND I TALKED TO
STARTER AND HE SAID, OUT OF 20 DAYS, MAYBE ONE DAY WOULD BE WITH NO
WIND. I HAVE HARD ENOUGH TIME PLAYING GOLF BUT WITH THE WIND, VERY
DIFFICULT. I DON'T THINK I'LL PLAY THERE AGAIN.
Best public course in Chicago area
Harborside has two excellent courses within 30mins from downtown Chicago. When there is no traffic it takes only 20mins.
Both are links courses with lots of bunkers. Water only comes into play on the holes 16/17/18 of each course, but the layout is very challenging and plays long from start to finish. Course conditions here are always excellent and greens run true and fast.
The practice facility is top notch.
Not for beginners or high cappers
I'm a 15-20 and this course is very challenging. Landing zones are tight off the tees and there isn't much room for error.
The course is very well maintained and its a great public track. Very scenic and good layout. Tight course with tall rough and patches if you miss the short stuff.
This course rewards accuracy so bring plenty of balls and patience if thats not your thing. Its usually very windy being down by the water too.
Beautiful Day!
What a great course and nicer people!
From being greeted at the bag drop to the halfway house and the friendly Cart girl.
Course was in real good shape except the greens. Not their fault... every course has to aerate. Overall had a great day and will certainly be back
Great Condition
Course was in great shape and pace of play on a Sunday morning was outstanding. Course layout isn't exactly unique or memorable - many holes look and feel the same. Friendly staff and great condition will bring me back next time I'm in the city.
Nice Course Close to the City
Solid course and close to the city, great for business/golf meetings.
Good course near the city.
Both courses are always in good shape and the practice facility is fantastic. The bunkers, especially the green side bunkers, could use more sand. But otherwise the course was a pleasure to play.
Wow! I waited this long to play here....
Let me just start by saying, this course is a pretty long drive from my house. 71 miles. Having said that, all I can say is, wow. Wow. This course was amazing. Was recommended by a friend of mine, and glad I played it. We played the Starboard course, and what a layout. course is bent grass from tee to green. No trees, true links layout. Rough is pretty thick, so highly advise to keep it on the short grass. Greens are pretty quick, definitely practice putting before teeing off. Fantastic finish 16-18. Par 4 downhill, short par 3 over water, and great par 5 along the lake created for the course. GPS on carts is top notch, practice center is very good, and food inside was very good as well. Can't wait to go back and play the Port course.
Definitely one of best courses in Illinois
I really had a fabulous time out at Harborside. Virtually had the course to myself on a Wednesday afternoon. Played in under 3 hours. Course was in impeccable condition. Fairways were extremely lush so despite the dry conditions the course did not play very fast. From the tips this course can play difficult because of its length and bunkering. However, I could still see beginners enjoying the course because of its wide fairways and large relatively flat greens (they rolled very true at about 8-9). Only encountered one bunker that did not have much sand in it. Starters were very friendly. Dorothy in the clubhouse was excellent and kindly moved my tee time back so I could use the complimentary practice facilities which are top notch with attention to detail all the way down to the Harborside logos on the range balls. I'm really baffled that this course is not rated closer to the top of the best courses in Illinois. Harborside is better than Highlands of Elgin, TPC Deere Run, and Cog Hill in my humble opinion.Give it a try and see for yourself.
Best Course close to the city
This is, without a doubt, the best public course close to Chicago, assuming you want to pay under $100 to play. Although the full price tee times are a bit steep, I have used TeeOff.com and never paid more than $60 for this place, and I've played it about five times.
Overall, just a really fun course with nice views of the city, and less than 30 minutes from downtown. Go play it!
Fantastic Track
I love everything about this course, gettable but also very difficult, they water everyday to keep the salt down so is 't usually soft so it plays longer then the card.. Great course for match play gamblers... Everything about Harbourside it top of the line... Also has a top rated practice facility.
harborside starboard
I like the layout but the bunkers were in terrible condition.
So you rate the course poorly because the wind was blowing? That isn't much of a reason to rate the course poorly.....
