Great course
This course is always a challenge. It’s not terribly long, but you’ll be in trouble if you get yourself in the rough or the ever challenging bunkers. The greens were in great shape and running fast today. I went out today with one other person and flew through the course in 3 hours on the dot, no one in front of us or behind. I’ve never had an issue with the pace of play here. I was able to catch a really good deal on the course thanks to GolfNow, but I think it’s usual price of $60-$75 is a bit steep. The club house is a bit dated and could use a face lift, but it’s still a very nice clubhouse. The range is a little small and you have to take a short walk or drive a cart to get there. The staff at the course are incredibly friendly. The starter has been the same person everytime I’ve been here, always friendly. As we ended our round I talked about going to the range and was given a token for a bucket of balls by one of the staff members. A small gesture that goes along way to make me want to come back and play again. Overall it’s a nice course and very worth it if you can get it for a reasonable price. It’s definitely worth trying out as it’s one of the nicer courses in the area.
Great course, but !!!
If you are playing Ravisloe on a discounted tee time, be prepared to be treated like a second class citizen. Class up Ravisloe, you can do better.
Hidden Gem in south Chicago
I hadn’t played this course in 5 years and thought it was a lot of back and forth. Boy was my memory long. For a 6200 yard course, we all thought it played a lot longer. The course was tight but fair. Despite lots of rain, the traps had been racked and the tee boxes and greens were in great shape.
Considering its distance, Donald Ross did an excellent job placing the sand traps as you might have to leave the driver in the bag on some of the par fours.
We will be back!
Overpriced for the quality
First of all, I play at the course every weekend around 9AM. I have been very happy with the course till last year before they increased the greens fee. This year they decided to increase the fee which is fair since they told me the reason behind the price hike was new GM and renovation for greens. Let me say that again, they increased the price so they can make the greens better…… I have been playing since the season open back in April. The speed of the greens is getting slower and slower…. It simply does not roll. There is no such thing as a down hill putt. It doesn’t roll so you still have to think it as a flat putt.
I have tried to contact the GM, head professional, Greens superintendent, vice GM via Email multiple times to raise a concern. I sent 5 emails so far and I didn’t receive a single response back. Imagine a job where you get to ignore your customers and boss; I would love to work in that job. Everytime I play with people I do not know, I ask what their opinions are about the greens and they say the same thing. IT IS OVER PRICED FOR THE SPEED OF GREENS.
I was finally able to talk to the GM one random afternoon on Saturday. He said the greens didn’t roll since their greens roller was broken. He said “it is fixed now, so it will be faster from now on.” This happened in June…………. Now it is end of August, no change…..
I used to love playing at Ravisloe, but now I feel like they are just taking advantage of the players. They really need to understand that for $80 there are courses where they have way better course maintenance especially for greens. (ex. Bowes Creek, Deerfield, Arrowhead, mt preserve at oakwood). Please at least once, respond back to the customer’s feedback and actually try to make the course better…. If the greens superintendent cant do it, maybe it is time to find for a new one.
Steamy Day for Hot Deal!
Course was in great shape. Played as a twosome in 3 hrs 40 min. Can't wait to get back there soon
Ravisloe Lives Up to Rep
Ravisloe lived up to its reputation as being an outstanding "old course." Tee boxes, fairways, rough and greens are very well-maintained. Greens a touch slow but this is by design because they get a lot of play, but the are in great condition and roll true. Water on only one hole; lots of trees, but fairways are of a width where if you hit your tee shots "relatively straight" you should be playable most of the time. Certainly worth the trip to play one of Illinois' top old courses!
Nice course
Nice course greens need to be better taken care of it was like putting on shag caroet.they need to make them smoother and faster
Great old course
If you like old, well preserved golf courses this is a gem and a must play. It plays short at just under 6400 yds but the challenges are evident on every shot.
Great layout
Really neat place. Korsh is very mature and very well. Lots of trees but they don’t come into play unless you are way off on your “aim”.
Ravisloe - Always in superior condition
This course is always in superb condition. I love the sand traps as they actually contain real sand. A lot of other courses today hardly put any sand in them. Bring your Lawrence of Arabia gear, as you will find yourself in many a sand trap, as they are plentiful. I love this course, even if I don't always score well, do to my own mistakes. The staff is great as is there set up to get your cart.
No amenities
Great course Except the driving range was closed. No on course cart person. Starter was asking for a tip to let us go 15min early. Tee time was 7:30am must have teed off right after they drenched the course with water it was so wet everywhere my shoes and sox were completely wet just from walking The fairway. Great course but need to step up there on and off course amenities driving range and don't always the employees to ask for money.
Great Course
Awesome course that is in great condition and is well maintained. A very good challenge and definitely enjoyed golfing here.
Course is in excellent condition
Course maintenance is excellent. Everything was in very good condition. Pace of play on a Friday 3:30 tee time was also very good. Would definitely recommend this course especially at the twilight rates. Can't wait to play here again.
Old School course with well guarded greens
Was a delight to play, golf course played old school and had a lot of charm. Greens were well guarded by sand traps and greens have some undulation.
I'm going to go ahead an disagree here on this review.
First, giving it a 1-star rating is just venting. It's not a 1-star facility. Is it 5 star? probably not, but certainly closer to 5 than it is 1.
Secondly, the greens are slower than most courses I play at - mainly Harborside and Mistwood. However, unlike those 2 courses, Ravisloe has some severe greens where speeding up the greens would bring play to a screeching haul. I watch guys out of position on holes 3,4 and 5 3-4 putt many of time - if you have glass greens like you want, say hello to 5 hour rounds. Cantigny, which charges $115 has similar green speeds as Ravisloe. Point being, green speed doesn't have anything to do with price. Kapalua has some of the slowest greens around and it's going to cost you $400 to find out.
Finally, Ravisloe is one of the more interesting and challenging layouts in Chicago public golf. It's a chance to play a Ross course without a membership - there are not a ton of those. Enjoy it for what it is and stop complaining.
