Excellent
Course was in great shape. Layout is challenging. Green have serious undulation. Many sand traps, all with real sand ( not a given in the Chicago area).Thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Great layout and very well maintained.
Overall, this course is a five star rating. I was very impressed with the excellent condition of course. Played the first week of april and will definitely be back to play again and again.
I don't understand how this is always so highly rated....
Was it a good course, with some nice Donald Ross features? Absolutely. Is it one of the best public courses in Illinois, deserving to be ranked ahead of Harborside and the Glen Club? Absolutely not, unless Ravisloe is paying you to say so. When I saw the rankings I actually checked to make sure that Ravisloe didn't have two courses and I had played the wrong one, but nope. I was on the right course.
At the end of the day, it's a short course with mostly straight holes, very little course elevation, and poor pace of play. But hey, the greens are in great shape. So there ya go.
Got a $20 GolfNow special
One of the last rounds of the season and the course was really in great shape. Tee boxes and fairways were in great shape. Greens smooth with lots of slope, but running a little slow. Lots of bunkers creating a nice framed view down most holes from the fairway. I walked with a pushcart which was very manageable. While a visually appealing old course, I would hesitate to paying the full price listed on their website. Will keep it in mind if they have another special.
Great value for the price
Plenty of challenge for any level golfer.
In excellent condition for this time of
year.
Private feel, public price
This was a fantastic course. I'd heard about it through a coworker and decided to give it a try. Being that it was previously a private course, they've definitely kept that same feel. Just a beautiful old school course with a number of challenges that thankfully aren't too overwhelming. Just enough to get you reconsidering your club choice. Don't pass this course up! It's well worth it.
Outstanding value
Took a friend who has never played the course before and after virtually every hole, he said, wow that was a nice hole. The course was in outstanding shape. It looked like the greens were airrated about a week ago and were fast and true. If you were above the hole, good luck! Ravisloe is a good, old fashioned, stright forward course that makes you play shots, especiually around the greens. It was a great value for the money on golf now. if you get the chance to play this gem of a course, do it. you will be very glad that you did.
fall special
played 18 with foursome at discount price. Course is in great shape and demanding of good shots to score. Will play again before season closes.
Donald Ross Gem!
This should be in the "Donald Ross Top 10 List", it was in immaculate condition on Wednesday! Greens were a little shaggy, about an 8 on a Stimpmeter (just a guess - slow). I love Donald, he gives you some wide open fairways so you can feel good about yourself and then, all of the sudden, you walk up to the tee box and he hits you with a wall of trees down the right side! Yikes! Guess where you think your drive is going (#12). With the GolfNow discount I played here for less than $30! This is the guy that designed Pinehurst #2. Go play!
Ravisloe
A real gem way South but worth the trip. A great layout. Maintenance of course needs some improvement in some areas especially greens and tee boxes.
The Turkey Cranberry sandwich is excellent!
Grand Old Course
Played a few days after a brief squall had gone through the area. The water still had not drained as drives were plugging and the areas around the green were a bit soggy. Other courses we had played in the area had none of these drainage issues.
You could tell the course was designed years before carts were invented as most tee boxes were right next to the previous green. Made for a very fast round (3 1/2 hours on a Sunday). The course design still holds up even after all these years, you have to play from the fairway or your approach is blocked off by trees and you have to be positioned on the correct side of the fairway if you don't want to be navigating bunkers. The greens were very sloped, putting from above the hole is not recommended!
Overall the course design was everything we expected, but for a semi-private course, the conditioning was a bit disappointing.
Customer service skills triple bogey
This place lacks in the service. You are no longer a country club. You need the public to want to come in and play. The public has numerous choices for great public golf. The course is average.
Lovely course, slow play
You won't find a more beautiful course that is open to the public in the Chicago area. Slow play is an issue here though.
Worth it
This course is worth it even at $60..,but if you can get a GOLFNOW tate even better. The greens are challenging and kept well.
Great!
Great course.. Very fair but challenging.. Great value and wonderful condition.
Ravisloe Dream
The course is beautiful. You forget you're in Illinois during your round. Great layout with very challenging sand traps!
Great Course.
Ravisloe never disappoints. Great course with a challenging but fun layout. If you enjoy golf in a park-like setting woth old mature trees then try this course. One small complaint, and I find this everywhere, people need to repair their ball marks. I dont blame a course for this, but i fixed two to three per green. Also a great patio off the 18 green to enjoy food or drink after round.
fairway greens were great
we were four playing this course first time was worth a drive I will go there again
Old School D Ross Gem
Always a fun play Ravisloe was in really good shape.....hardly anyone was there for our Wednesday early afternoon round. Country club experience. My only complaint is that the fairways were over watered so the course played very long. Ravisloe will host the IL Senior Amateur in September so expect the course to be well maintained the remainder of the season. This is track that's stood the test of time and will return again and again.
