Challenging and fun
Brought a foursome to the course. The layout and hole variety made for a fun round of golf in spite of the wet conditions we endured while on the course.. I would have to add this to our must play list to return next year..
Call this track Donald Ross lite.
Maybe my expectations for Ravisloe were too high. This is a terrific course that I would recommend at about $40 but not $70.
Don't get me wrong it is a great course that's a lot of fun to play. Donald Ross knows how to set up a hole so you cannot overpower it. You cannot just expect to drive over ll the fairway traps you have to place your shots around them. GThere are so many great courses in Chicagoland that I just don't think it's a top 5 course you can play in IL.
The greens are pretty flat and in great shape. Call this track Donald Ross lite.
Great design and ownership gets it
Awesome experience, I'll be back
Staff was really friendly course in great shape and design is top notch and challenging
Best in the South Burbs
Play it often. My favorite by far. Greens in great shape (the entire course is). Seems some of the speed is coming back on them. You feel like your somewhere special when you play here. That I why it is disappointing to see the way some golfers are treating it. Cig butts left on greens. Player not repairing ball marks and divots
A Donald Ross gem.
What a great layout, played for the first time. Would most definitely come back again. Course was tough but fair, truly an architect's design. Bunkers were plentiful and strategy plays a big part of success. Can't wait to hit it again.
Great Course and Great Value
I really enjoyed the course and feel it is hard to beat. Everything is well maintained. There is a significant amount of sand and there is lots of slope to the greens so it is nice to play with someone who has been there. That being said, Donald Ross courses put it all in front of you so there are not a lot of surprises. The course does not play very long so good chance to score if you put the ball in the fairway with any distance. It is a pleasure to walk.
I did feel the pro shop staff could have been a little more friendly. We were checking in and decided to walk instead of ride. He was pretty unfriendly with his questions and clarifications. Not a great welcome and I don't think they understand how important that front-line interaction is for courses.
Private club course/conditions
Great early Donald Ross design with many features well preserved. Good pace of play for public course. Very consistent greens for public course. Great condition other than a few tee boxes, but expected late season.
Good course for under 20 handicaps and fun because of limited lost ball areas. Real challenge is green structures and approach angles.
If you like early courses with an old school feel to them, this is the place for you. Green fees are very fair for the course you get to play.
Must Play
A true gem in Chicago golf. Played as a single behind 4 somes and still finished around 4 hours. Course is in great shape. First time playing it. You could see and feel the history of this course from the Clubhouse to the halfway house after the 10th hole to the classic Ross design. A must play for any golfer who enjoys the classic parkland course. Just became my favorite course in Chicago area.
Old School Country Club
This is a classic old school country club. Has that feel and vibe. Narrow mature tree lined fareways. Small greens fast and pitched. Hard to hold. Deep well maintained bunkers. All in very good shape as is turf. It was a very enjoyable day at the club.
Course was in great shape. Greens were excellent
Course was in great shape. Greens were excellent!!!
Beautiful Course
First time playing here and it won't be the last! The condition of the course was excellent. Narrow fairways and small greens reflect the overall design of this course. Ravisloe was once a country club and I'm very happy it went public.
Great Course
Very good course. Donald Ross design restored to it's intended level of difficulty. Course was in excellent condition. Would recommend, and we will go back.
Old style course in great shape!
The course was in GREAT shape including tee boxes, fairways, and greens. Pace of play was fabulous, teeing off at 1pm on Saturday and we never waited once. The only negative was their website tells peoole they have GPS for free through their website once you get on the course. I tried to do this but it gave me an error message. I asked the clubhouse personel and they looked at me as if they had no clue of their own GPS. Would have been nice to have it on the course. Over than that, I highly recommend this course.
Public Donald Ross course in Chicagoland
Just a marvelous classic design. A private club that went belly up is now a public course that is still kept in great condition, and relatively affordable too.
Just ok.
Certainly not the 6th best in the state as they claim. Just a decent track. Not worth the 60 dollars they charge though
Great For Beginners
Third time ever playing. Great open course allowed me to finish in 4.5 hrs. Will come back again.
Great course ! some challenging holes, pins were tucked in some difficult hole locations, hard to get at.very deep bunkers
Loved the layout of this very old with a lot of character golf course. It seems playing this golf course put you in another time period such as the likes of Harry Vardon, Walter Hagan, and Bobby Jones . The clubhouse itself brings back the era of the very early 1900's it was a very enjoyable round of Sunday golf that I will remember for a long time.
Short but stay in fairway
Challenging par 3's, deep bunkers and rough is rough. Lots of big trees, samll greens and great pin placements. I'd recommend it to everyone.
Its an outstanding golf course, not too long but you must make shots!
This is probably my favorite golf course in Illinois. Could not wait to play it when it became a public course. Short enough that you can walk with no problem. Got a great deal on GolfNow and was able to play on a sat. morning for $35. Normal weekend rate is $75!
