Nice course. Slow play due to outing.
The pro sent off a 4 hole shotgun outing prior to our tee time. Same pro was rude when we asked about what was happening. Ends up 2.5 hrs to play the front, better on the back. Starter tried his best.
Too bad. Great course in great condition.
I guess good customer service only applies to outings...
Pace was brutal
Pace of play was terrible. It was great for 4 holes and we were told by the starter that only couple of singles were in front of us but as we approached the 4 th green a foursome showed up on the 5 th tee. We waited on every shot after that. We were told by workers that they were members and do what they want.
Highly recommend
One of the best public courses I've played in the Chicagoland area. Great value. Course was in great condition. Not overly long, so it's easy to walk. It's a little tricky to get to from the city, so allow plenty of time.
Carts
The cart we were driving ran out of battery and we had to call to get another cart delaying things for a bit. Luckily the group behind us had a cart die too so it worked out. This shouldn't happen. Other than that it was great
Hidden Chicago Gem
I have been golfing at Ravisloe since it went public. I love this course layout and I just enjoy the overall facility. The people are great and the prices are very fair. I generally tee off very early, so the pace of play is sub 4 hours. I've played later in the day where the pace of play is a little over 4 hours, but I think the course marshals are pretty good at doing their job, which is managing the pace of play and not just riding around the course and shooting the bull with everyone.
Ravisloe
Ravisloe was the best course I have ever been to in Chicagoland. Definitely worth the trip!
A gem in the south suburbs of Chicago!
If you get the chance, you've got to play this Donald Ross designed beauty in Homewood, IL. The course conditions were emaculate throughout. A true challenge greets you as you play a course that's been testing golfers for 114 years!
Hidden gem
I truly was a great track. Not too long but greens were tough and bunkers were deep. Enjoyed playing there and look forward to going there again.
Like being at a private club
Atmosphere, grounds, and condition like the private club that it was for so many years. Flower gardens
similar to some of the finest private golf courses.
Great Walking Course, Very well maintained
The course still feels like it is a private club. The course is in great shape. Very good layout that you can score on if you bring your putter (challenging greens).
GREAT TRACK!!!
This course is the true gem of Chicagoland south. The staff was very friendly and the course was in amazing shape, considering all the rain we have gotten. I can not wait to play here again.
Fantastic!
I have had this course on my bucket list for several years and finally got around to playing it recently. It was in absolutely fantastic shape. It will not be the last time that I make the trip to play this wonderful Donald Ross course.
Nice Day at Ravisloe
Course fairways, greens in excellent condition following lots of rain. Drinking water was available along the course and food cart came around several times. Staff friendly and helpful in pro shop and on course. Pace of play too 'relaxed' - but it was a sunny holiday weekend.
Old school fun course
always fun to play here.NICE STAFF GOOD FOOD
The new owner is very proud of this historic place
He keeps putting money back in the course,
nice day
a little crowded. nice course- rough was short. Saw a hole in one on the shorter par 3
What happens to a Country Club when it goes public?
What happens to a Country Club when it goes public? You get a really nice course that isn't in pristine condition. Ravisloe was really really nice, but also looked old and needed a little bit more TLC.
There were too many "helicopter" leaves or seeds all over the course making contact with the ball while in the rough, extremely difficult. Also made putting a nightmare unless you took an extra couple of minutes to brush off your line.
Regardless of what mother nature was doing and of the course needing some TLC around the edges, it was a challenging course with a nice layout and definitely worth the money. I think I actually liked it better than Cog Hill, which is supposed to be Chicago's best public track.
Staff was friendly, food was very good, but there was no hot water in the shower in the Men's locker-room, which wasn't fun.
Again, other than nit picking because we played Medinah the day before, this was a fantastic course and definitely worth playing if you are in the Chicago area.
Excellent fairway, greens, sand traps
Fairway, greens and sand traps were all in excellent condition. Plenty of soft sand throughout the many sand traps made it easy to strike the ball and get on th greens in one stroke . . . what a delight as sand is apparently at a premium at most courses and missing at others.
Well Worth It
Just played after a few days of rain. The course held up well and the bunkers were not filled with water. The course plays really well. It is challenging, but not daunting. Trees and bunkers are placed well, so you can find yourself in trouble quick. Greens were fast and in good shape, luckily they were not too steep...just right. I will go back and play this course on a dry day soon. Good luck!
Great course! Very penal bunkering!
Avoiding the bunkers here is a must! Unfortunetly, I was in just about one per hole. Also, staying below the hole is a must. I really like this gem.
