Cantigny Golf - Hillside/Woodside
About
Cantigny Golf boasts 27 holes of scenic and challenging golf. The holes are divided into three nines that are named after the features of the landscape: Lakeside, Hillside, and Woodside. The nines are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The Hillside/Woodside course features plenty of elevation changes as well as an abundance of hardwoods, mature oaks, and ash trees. More than 100,000 flowers provide a colorful accent to the golf course. Strategically placed bunkers border the undulating greens and there are also a few water hazards coming into play. All three courses provide a challenging round but they are playable for a range of skill levels. It is an excellent place for tournaments. In the past it has been host to the US Amateur Public Links and numerous USGA qualifiers. It is also a good place for juniors with a golf academy and a nine-hole youth links golf course.

ONE OF THE BEST
BEAUTIFUL COURSE , TERRIFIC LAYOUT, ONE OF THE BEST COURSES IN THE STATE.
One of Chicago area's top five public access golf venues.
Played first week of 2013 golf season. Greens still pretty rough from aeration. When healed... course always pristine. Hosts Women's U.S. Open Qualifier in May.
I wouild play there again
It is early in the season but the course was nice based on the weather. Play was slow due to cart path only. Staff was very nice.
Great!
Hadn't played this in a bunch of years...better than I remember. Fortunate to have had temps in the mid to upper 50's in mid Nov.! Super nice staff and conditions considering it was their "last day" of the year. Played "woodside" and "lakeside". GREAT layout. Thoughtful. Challenging. Green complexes tight on about half of the holes. There are only about 8-10 public courses in the Chicago area that would rival or be a slight notch above. Great time!
Top 5 conditioned public golf course in Chicago
Just a great track. All three 9 hole layouts are tough, but fair. The green fees in the summer can be a bit steep, but the conditioning & quality of the course(s) justifiy the cost. We got a 'teaser' day in mid-Nov. & the course was still in great shape. Get there early to take advantage of great driving range, chipping area & large practice putting green.
Not worth to pay $$$
Delayed 70 minutes because of frost. Watered on course 30 minutes before play (about 20 minutes). Course was wet and cart path only.
A Dose of Perfection
If you haven't played this course yet than maybe you shouldn't, because once you do you will be comparing every other course to this one. Truest greens I've played on, fluffy sand, evenly pristine tee boxes, yardages markers apparent. While the cart has GPS its a fairly cheap system I suppose that is my only complaint besides the high price of food/drink, but that is to be expected. The layout of the course which is tucked into a centuries old forest is chalk full of animal life(hawks, turkeys, coyotes, deer, even sasquatch Ive seen him). For weekday prices as low as $50 you would be foolish not to take advantage of a top echelon 27 hole course such as this.
Cantigny
Cantigny has never been a disappointment as far as I'm concerned. It has always been in wonderful condition - as was the case this past weekend. Staff is wonderful, the facilities are top notch and over all the three nines are fun and challenging. To me the place is a golfing sanctuary.
Would play it everyday if I could
The course is absolutely magnificent. Challenging but fair. Our pace was a little behind the first few holes but at no time did the ranger ever approach us in a threatening manner. Very courteous and professional. If it were a little cheaper, it would be my first choice of courses to play in the western suburbs. Provides a very pro-like atmosphere for your run of the mill golfer.
A beautiful course in terrific shape. Greens fees are a little high. Clubhouse staff could have been more friendly.
Cantigny is a beautiful course with challenging holes for all players. The pace was good and the entire course is well maintained. It's tough to justify paying these fees on a regular basis, but it was a treat to play here.
One of the most elegant courses in Chicagoland
Having spent time in some of the old countryclubs (Medinah, Baltusrol etc), I was quite surprised to find a public course that could match their splendor. The drive in reminds you of Augusta's Magnolia Lane. The practice facility is impressive with a moderately sized driving range, but with fantastic chipping and putting greens. The 3 courses are really in terrific shape. There are two or three holes that require local knowledge since they are blind shots and if you drive over 200 yards your ball can end up in the trees.. or worse. The greens are well manicured and have moderate undulation. The fairways are often sloped so you often have an uneven lie (something you don't find in courses in Chicagoland). Overall a great experience with terrific courses (3) and great greens.
buetiful challenging layout
very friendly stall all very helpful 27 great hole very very well maintained resort course amenities open to daily golfer
27 hole each 9 a very distinctive character wonderful practice facility very junior golfer friendly. course in excellent shape even with a very difficult summer this year.
As a rule of thumb you always call the course in the morning regarding tee-times when frost is apparent.....otherwise be prepared to wait my friend or dont play in late fall/winter
