Nice course
Had a great time . Pace of play was excellent!!
I would recommend this course to everyone who plays.
WORSE PACE OF PLAYER EVER
3 hours to play 9 holes!!! Did not stay to play the back 9. Several people were upset demanding money back. Course never advised there was a large City tournament that had an extreme slow pace of play. The course did not provide a drink cart for even a bottle of water. There was a wedding that moved the tees forward and the guests of the wedding were walking up the fairway during play.
Good Value
Staff friendly, driving range adequate and balls in good shape. Course was well groomed but the traps could use a bit more sand in them. Greens were excellent and rolled very nice. Speed was around a 9-10. Fairways cut nice and fairly healthy. Overvalue was very good. Booked thru GolfNow.
player friendly course
The course was in good condition considering lack of rainfall in the area. Fairways were running good and the greens were smooth and fairly quick. A player friendly course. I would recommend it to anyone.
Oakmont West
It is always fun to play Oakmont's west course, every thing was great.
good time
They are really wooing hard to keep it in shape, no bad holes, good greens ,playable fairways.
Would play again.
Enjoy playing this course. Not too hard for the average golfer. Just a pleasant day!
Oakmont west golf course
The course was very well maintained, some of the best fairways I've seen. The greens were also very well maintained. It was a very nice day of golf.
Plays tougher than it looks
Very good public course,...well kept and managed. Interesting course, water, trees, ....need to keep the ball in the fairway.
Bumpy Greens
I was told the greens had 3 weeks to recover. Greens were still bumpy and unpredictable, but still fair. Pace of play was unacceptable. Weekend golfers on a weekday. This added to the long round that prevented a rating no more than 3 stars.
Presidents week foursome
We showed up early at the club and had a wonderful lunch. We then started after lunch and we were really surprised that the day after a holiday to the course was empty. We played the West course and had a wonderful time. The course was in good condition considering the on and off rain situation in California. It was a wonderful, mature, long ,open golf course.
Had fun playing Oakmont West course
There were 4 of us who played Oakmonts Weat course on Saturday Jan. 31st. Oakmont is a usually well kept course . And still was on Saturday except that we found the greens to be not their usual pristine condition. It was if a crazy golfer or a nocturnal animal with hooves decided to run across most of the greens. There were rough bald spots, divots that previous golfers didn't bother to fix. (Come on golfers fix your divots, and rake the bunkers) I'm sure the crew at Oakmont will have it back to its pristine condition soon. One suggestion mow the rough on the sides of the fairways as it's impossible to find your ball. Even if it's a bit off the fairway the grass is so thick that finding ones ball is almost impossible.
overall good
Course was empty on MLK holiday, bujt in fine shape especially the majority of greens, with just a couple on the front nine with a fungus. Overall, very enjoyable.
Do Not Play on a Holiday
Course was fine. Speed of play given it was packed was good. However; I was given the last cart available for the day and our tee time was 11:28. My cart lasted until the 10th hole and died. After hiking back to the clubhouse, I was told that the cart they are giving me may not last 9 holes. It did not. Obviously, Oakmont is not equipped for handling a holiday crowd.
In great shape right now
The course was a little dry during the summer but now that the autumn rains have started the conditions couldn't be better. Fairways are even and smooth, greens are a little slower than "Oakmont fast" and run true. I've played this course many times over the past few years and the course keeps getting better.
The course is challenging but nowhere near impossible. Most holes have some sort of interesting feature that keeps it from becoming "hit the ball, follow, hit the ball again" There are a good distribution of doglegs, bunkers and trees to keep it from being a cakewalk. The neighborhood surrounding the course is old and gives the course a somewhat dated feel but the surrounding hills and water features are beautiful.
Monday is a good day for Oakmont
Great day for golf. Sunny, warm, course very open, less than four hour round.
good course, great deal, super nice people
This is a fun course. The fairways are pretty wide open, good for someone at my level. The 15th hole is just amazing! This is one of the most stunning holes I've played. Well worth the trip and everyone is nicer, golf is cheaper and the the crowds are smaller. What's not to like? Except for #15, there is nothing exceptional here but it's a good fun course.
Disappointing
We booked through golf now and because of that we weren't informed that the front nine were closed therefore played the back nine twice.. No discount for that. However apart from that, the course was in very poor condition. Some really bad lies on the fairways and poor bunkers.
Would not hurry back to play here.
Are you sure you're talking about Oakmont West? 15 is a long flat par 5 with a slight dogleg but other than one of the largest greens on the course (40 yards wide and 30 yards deep) it's quite unremarkable. The 16th is a short, picturesque par 3 over water with a bunker protecting in front and oaks ringing the back. 17 is a real challenge with water running the entire length of the hole on the right, a pretty pond 250 yards from the teebox and a bunker dead in the center of the fairway 50 yards in front of the green. Plenty of fun on that hole!
