River Run Golf Course
About
River Run Golf Club in Ocean City is just minutes away from the beach. The golf course has different front and back nines that make for an interesting round. This Gary Player design starts out across a wide-open landscape before moving on to more tree-lined terrain on the backside. The tighter back nine is tougher than the first nine but overall it's an approachable golf course. The player-friendly layout is gentle enough for beginners with medium-sized greens that aren't especially difficult and generous fairways that offer plenty of room. There is modest bunkering along the greens and fairways and a few lakes and some marshland come into play as well. While River Run Golf Club may not be the most formidable test, the course provides just enough of a challenge for scratch golfers.

6th "Green" Photo submitted by DrOldSchool on 08/15/2018
Terrible Customer Experience
I had a 11:09 tee time on a Friday morning in September. Pace of play came to a standstill on the 4th tee. By the time we got to 10 there were 3 groups on the tee, one in the fairway and 1 on the green. Took 3 hours to play the back 9. There were so many groups on each tee that stories from the groups ahead of us started to filter back. Evidently the course let a 6some play and we were all stuck behind them. Totally unacceptable. This is a public course that gets a lot of play, so I was OK with the lack of grass on the tees, and the poorly conditioned fairways that were lost to heat and humidity. I'm totally not OK with the course taking our money and not monitoring pace of play. No marshals over the course of 5 1/2 hours of play in 90 degree heat.
A few other issues - they blew up the old driving range to make way for housing and cleared a 100 yard area off of the 10th tee for a new range. Because of the lack of space, the range balls are plastic waffle balls.
Also, they have abandoned the black tees, although some of the old black tee boxes are still maintained. In fact, it seemed like the blue tee markers were on some of the old black boxes, and some white tee markers were on some of the old blue tee boxes. They haven't rerated the course handicap for the current marker locations, so scores are probably not completely accurate if you are posting to GHIN.
Slow hot day
River Run is a fun course with an interesting layout,.The round took almost Five hours. The sand traps were in terrible shape. Lots of dried mud in the crusty traps. The course is still fun to play.
Just as advertised
Visited River Run for the first time and read the reviews about the friendly staff. It was true and it makes all the difference in enjoying the course. Also read that the course challenged scratch golfers while being fair to golfers with higher handicaps. Played with a golfer whose handicap was 4. He hit from the back black tees, and I hit from the white. It was mostly a bogey day with only two pars, a handful of doubles, mostly bogies, but no triples. Hit over water each time needed to. For the scratch golfer, it was a par day with a few bogies and a few birdies and a few doubles - in short and overall, it felt as though we played evenly because the course challenged him and was fair for me. Will definitely return soon.

Overall, river run is a quality golf course. That being said, white tee boxes were atrocious (granted that’s to be expected). Majority of fairways were in good shape, some have seen their better days. Greens were good for the most part, slower pace than practice green. Staff was friendly and helpful, I’d play here again for a cheaper price.
Needs rangers to move the pace of play
Course needs rangers to move play along, almost 6 hours to play on a Wednesday

Overall conditions were okay, white tee boxes were beat up but that’s expected for the average golfer. Some fairways have seen their better days. Greens were solid, no specific issues. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Should be cheaper but course is located near the beach so it is what it is.
Good greens for late summer
I felt some of the waist high grass was left to close to the fairways and holes
Great course
Overall great course, layouts were nice, pace of play was amazing. Food shop at the end of the 9th was accommodating
Great Round
Played just after green aeration. Staff was great. Got off on time! And finished in 3 1/2 hours. Tee boxes and fairways in great shape. Greens still played well despite recent aeration. Definitely play here again!
Nice course, narrow fairways, driving range has plastic balls, greens were sanded. They sent us out early with no chance to putt or chip so struggled early. It's short so plays well for guys who don't drive the ball long.
Course staff
Staff was more then helpful and got us out alot earlier then our scheduled tee time.
I would recommend anyone to play here!!!
Fantastic course!
First time playing and will definitely not be our last! Course was in great condition!

My son-in-law and I booked a tee-off reservation on Golf Now for our planned golf game at River Run during our summer vacation, 120 miles from our homes. When we got there, the employees delayed our start time allegedly because a large group was scheduled to play ahead of us, even though our reservation didn’t interfere with the group’s tee-off times. The starter finally “fit us in,” and we played two holes when it started to pour rain.
We returned to the clubhouse in the pouring rain and asked for a refund. Initially the manager only offered us a rain check, even though we were vacationers who had come a long way from home to play and we couldn’t extend our stay.
When we insisted on a refund rather than a rain check for this reason, the manager rudely asked us, “Now, what are the chances that you will be back in exactly one year to play here again?” I avoided answering back in kind (“Why, never, if that’s the way you are going to treat us!”) and negotiated receiving a check for our $158 reservation from him in a “week or so.”
In the half-century that I have played golf, including games that were cut short by rain, I have never been treated so rudely by the golf course staff for the simple request of receiving a refund under such conditions. When the staff treats players high-handedly, they soon find out that they have no players.
I would not recommend River Run as a good course to play. There are plenty of better alternatives on the Maryland Eastern Shore.
