River Run Golf Course
About
River Run Golf Club in Ocean City is just minutes away from the beach. The golf course has different front and back nines that make for an interesting round. This Gary Player design starts out across a wide-open landscape before moving on to more tree-lined terrain on the backside. The tighter back nine is tougher than the first nine but overall it's an approachable golf course. The player-friendly layout is gentle enough for beginners with medium-sized greens that aren't especially difficult and generous fairways that offer plenty of room. There is modest bunkering along the greens and fairways and a few lakes and some marshland come into play as well. While River Run Golf Club may not be the most formidable test, the course provides just enough of a challenge for scratch golfers.

Nice course
Overall I was happy with the course. There were a couple holes to close to houses though specially a par 3 on the back.

One of the friendliest staff I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Course is always lush and maintained.
We got a great rate thru golfnow that really made it a fantastic value.
Nice little course
This was our final course on our buddies trip. The fairways were the most challenging for me on this course. They are somewhat tight and seemed more narrow due to the way I was playing!! Very scenic and the water hazards made you plan your shots. The weather was not great so that made our pace of play great as I think a lot of groups cancelled. We had a fun time and my score card showed I got my money's worth!!!
I'd recommend
Other than a couple of holes here and there, the only challenge to this course was that the fairways were tight and you had to be accurate. The course was in excellent shape and the greens as well, very true. I wouldn't pay full price for this course, I got it at half price online which is why I put a good value for the buck. But would definitely recommend playing it.
Greens need some TLC
I stopped playing this course last summer when they lost several greens. I figured that they had all fall to reseed and recover, so I booked a tee time for April 2. I was wrong. The greens were recently aerated, but the problem is that there is still little vegetation (other than some poa) on many of the greens. Several aprons were sand, so chipping was more exciting than it needed to be.
It's a shame, because this is a fun little layout. I'm going to read the reviews and comments before I book another tee time here. If I start seeing comments that the conditions have improved, I'll come back. Until then, there are a bunch of good layouts in the area that are in excellent condition - I'll stick with them.
Good conditions for the time of the year
I'm pleased with conditions and the weather, all and all turn into a excellent day.
Winter conditions
Very soft, winter conditions, greens very bumpy but roll at a good pace given the conditions.
Good Value
Weather was great for this time of year as was the price.
Not bad for the price
My foursome was fortunate enough to get a Hot Deal on Golfnow for $45. As other reviews mention, the course is a mess. We would play there again for the same price. Definitely not worth more than that. Staff in the Clubhouse and Restaurant were very friendly. Half way house was not opened at the turn.
Friendly Staff, Terrible Conditions
To start off.....I am a USGA 5.8 handicap, and I do not generally have high course condition standards. I generally play public golf courses only, so I am used to a lot of things not being perfect or ideal, I just like to play. The condition of River Run is a shame. The layout was great, I thought some holes were very challenging but fair. The course conditions were just awful. The tee boxes were beat up, uneven, and just not in any kind of shape a course should be in during September. The greens were borderline unplayable. A lot of bare spots with sand, or just dead grass. I gave a 1 out of 5 for course conditions I chose to make it a 1 instead of a 0 because the fairways were ok.
The staff is fantastic at the course. We were rained out in the morning and had to wait for the rain to pass. We hung out at the restaurant inside and the staff kept us company, and was friendly and accommodating. It was a slow day at the course, so the chef came out and had friendly conversation. He was really cool guy, talked about his military service, and actually had an impromptu putting competition with me. He also made a very good turkey club sandwich. The staff on the course and pro shop was incredibly nice as well.
All in all, it is a shame the course is in the condition it is in. I must have said to myself a hundred times "if the course was in good shape I would come here all of the time", but the conditions was horrendous.
River Run nicest course in Ocean City
This course is a great layout and a great place to play when in the area
Weather Beaten
Course was so wet from bad weather. Greens aerated and not fun to putt on. Some very bad tee boxes and fairways. Water filled bunkers. No cart girl. No food at the turn. Saw 1 water cooler on the course. 2 hot dogs and 2 beers was $21.50. Not a pleasant round of golf at River Run.
Goose turds
I already wrote a review but forgot to say the 15th green had about 50 geese on it and it was full of goose turds you couldn't even putt it was ridiculous I complained at the pro shop and he said oh well also in the fall they have very high greens fees beware
Very sad...
Never wrote a review before. Had to after yesterday's round. The course is in atrocious condition! The greens - weren't! Most had large areas of non-existent grass - aerated yes - but no grass. Putting on bumpy sand basically. The sand traps were for the most part hardened concrete. The fairways were a mishmash of different grass and a lot of weeds. The course definitely has drainage problems. Not to mention geese problems. They ruled the back nine. On the 15th green we couldn't putt at all - droppings everywhere. My partner had to "shoo" them from the 16th tee - and we aren't talking 5 or 10. There had to be 50 to 75. No joke!
To top it off - 18 holes took 5+ hrs to play. Not once did a Marshall come by to monitor play. Not once did the drink cart come by. No plans to pay $70 at this course again. It wasn't worth half that.
Bad day for golf
The greens were in very bad shape the course was wet and cart path only it was an outing in the morning slowed the whole course down over 5 1/2 hours not a good day of golf conditions at the course was poor staff not very friendly or accommodating
MIght want to hold off on this one for a few weeks
Ive played it before, earlier this year and the grounds were ok, rough due to the spring weather. Once again I tried it and the grounds are a complete disaster. the greens are the worst ive seen. recently aerated but a lack of cleaning them up afterwards have left them a mess. I would assume that it would get better in a few weeks, but after paying a $59 mid-day mid week round price, I feel it is way, way overpriced based on the condition. I have played 1/2 dozen courses around the area in the last two weeks, none were as expensive, and all were is remarkable shape compared this River Run. The staff is friendly, restaurant is good. I think there is other courses at the current time, and weather conditions that would be better than this one. You can see by other recent reviews (that I wish I had read) that im not alone.
